  1. I'm just sayin winter can leave any time now....

  2. I'm going to repeat my comment on this thread, as you are still using the same quote in every thread. I don't think this says what you think it says, Betsy. I think it's just saying that if you want to believe that God directed evolution, it wouldn't disagree with science. And if you want to believe that evolution happened without any direction from a God, that belief also does not disagree with science. In other words, we all believe in the evolutionary process. Some attribute it to God, some do not. I think it's a great way for the NAS to state things so as to not completely alienate religious fundies from taking an interest in science. I'm guessing that's probably why they put it in the FAQ's...... I find it interesting that up to this point in time, religious people utterly rejected the idea of evolution. Now that it's proven, they are still trying to make it fit in with a God-scenario. Which is fine. I'm just not sure why it matters to you whether "science" believes in God or not. You're going to believe in God no matter what science discovers.

  4. I know, right??
  5. Saying, 'Well, you've just earned a place on my ignore list' is a bit hostile, but not an outright attack. It tends to cause people to look at you as a bit of a smug egomaniac. And if you make that announcement a lot, you just end up looking like a big crybaby.
  6. Christianity was dragged kicking and screaming into allowing human rights in the West. The same way Islam is kicking and screaming against progress. To now say that Chistianity is responsible for how good we have it in the West, is overstating.
  7. I did. As religious control declined in the West, humans were afforded more rights. In countries where there is still a large religious influence, they don't have it as well. But if you think we should all bow down to Christianity for giving us our rights, I think you're wrong. Religion most often fights against (and continues to fight against) any progress in society.
  8. No, I "get" your point. You're saying the West has rights that other countries do not have BECAUSE OF THE CHRISTIAN religion. I'm saying we have rights that other countries do not have IN SPITE of religion, because we have given it less importance in the West.
  9. That's my point. If it were up to religion, we wouldn't have the advances we do - women would still have no rights, homosexuals would still be being tossed off rooftops.
  10. Anyhoooooo..... These are HUMAN principles. The reason you see them more in Western societies is because we've been moderatelly successful in edging religion OUT of things. Barbaric countries are still barbaric because of religion. Only because women themselves have fought for and continue to fight for it. Certainly not because of the Christian religion.

  12. There's still time to change the road you're on

  13. Just because your feelings are hurt, doesn't necessarily mean the other person did anything wrong.
  14. I couldn't disagree more. http://kidswithoutgod.com/teens/ask/where-do-atheists-get-their-morality/
  15. Actually, you're right, that's not noted. In the picture, she's wearing a hijab. And in the affidavit from the article on Page 8 it just states "members of a particular religious and cultural community" are engaging in this "as part of their religious and cultural practice". I guess we'll never know.
  16. I was just reading about an area in France where this FGM situation was out of control and so the authorities began conducting random checks on young Muslim girls. I'm sure this violates the parent's "rights" to mutilate their daughters, but I don't think the French give a rat's patootie about their "rights".
  17. There was this in the news too http://www.abc15.com/news/national/detroit-emergency-room-doctor-charged-with-child-genital-mutilation Important to note from the article that she did not perform these FGMs in the hospital which employed her. I hope they throw her in jail.
  18. Happy to see this: http://m.startribune.com/minneapolis-muslims-protest-sharia-vigilante-patrolling-in-cedar-riverside-area/419321224/
  19. Ahem..... Have a blast having hissy fits every time you don't get your own way or life seems unfair, Betsy!
  20. Oh please! You act like this guy is some kind of Rosa Parks. The airline acted badly. This guy compounded it by having a temper tantrum. No, I wouldn't have done what this guy did. Not in a million years.
  21. http://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/world/syrias-assad-says-chemical-attack-100-percent-fabrication/ar-BBzOgoe?li=AAggNb9 Assad is saying there was NO gas attack....it's all fabricated by the media.
  22. Yes, I am agreeing with you that it was a crappy situation. Getting bumped from a flight is crappy. We all know it happens. We all know it could happen to us one day. I'm just saying that having a hissy fit like a 2 year old, doesn't help. My feeling from the videos are that he clearly wanted to "make his point". He clearly wanted to make a scene. He was offered compensation for being bumped. He doesn't deserve any compensation for the gong show HE created.
  23. Yup, life isn't fair sometimes. It's moronic because he is an ADULT having a hissy fit on a public airplane. If he said to the airline, "Hey, I'm a doctor and I'm needed for a life-saving surgery in Louisville ASAP".....I doubt the airline would have kicked him off. They would have found someone else to take the money and free hotel room. There were lots of ways for him to say "Enough is enough". Having a hissy fit temper tantrum is the Moron way.
  24. I agree with you to an extent.....he was a paying customer who really, really, really, really, really wanted on that flight. But there were lots of other ways he could have handled the situation. He chose the Moron route. That's why I hope he never sees a dime.
  25. Agreed. Three other passengers apparently took the credits and left the plane, no problem. If it was an emergency for him (maybe he was going to a funeral or had an important guest surgery to perform somewhere, I don't know...) I'm sure the airline would have left him on the flight and bumped someone else. I hope he never gets a dime.
