Could it have been......dementia moment?

It sure seems like it. It happened during the interview about 20 minutes in. People with early stages of dementia can sustain a conversation for a little while, but get tired quickly and then become more difficult and finally incoherent. It's exactly like when you're talking with BubberMiley. That's why his staffer was yanking him out of there before it happened. As the disease progresses it cannot be masked anymore.
Sounds like a great choice for POTUS.
