  1. Am I wrong in assume you'd prefer there never to be Big Box stores anywhere? You asked if I would like to live next to a Big Box Store. It would actually be handy so I wouldn't have to get in my polluting car to go and buy groceries on the weekend. The Independent Bakery/Deli that's close to me doesn't have a butcher.
  2. If someone is willing to pay the City of Toronto to build a Ferris Wheel I don't see a problem with that. Are they really that ugly?
  3. Actually most of these "suburbs" you South of Bloorites seem to hate have small quaint Downtown cores with many independent stores. But they also have Strip Malls with Big Box stores, movie theatres, chain restaurants etc. Both are equally popular. It's all about balance.
  4. He's damned here by you no matter what he did that didn't included the status quo. If he said he wanted to do these things but didn't reveal a plan to pay for it you would have said he's being reckless. He says he has a plan to pay for this scheme and you say it's a backroom deal.
  5. There should be. They've been at it for 7 years already with no results right? This is one of the reasons why people voted for Ford BTW. Years of governments dragging their feets and the public getting nothing for it.
  6. See what's happening here is that the Ford's actually want to use this land to generate some income. Afterall it's some of the most valuable real estate in Canada. But what this Waterfront Toronto organization wants to do drag their heels on a project so they can make themselves seem useful for 15 years. I like how that article about what they want planned said "small shops" because if a money maker like Wal-Mart or Canadian Tire wanted to move in there that would somehow be a stain on the waterfront. After all with their plan it's just the taxpayer that's funding a majority of the project right?
  7. How long does it say that this will take? Toronto really needs more Libraries now.
  8. That's why God created DVRs. BTW my cable provider has an a la carte package so I can pick 5 or more channels. But for some channels that doesn't work.
  9. That's hyperbole. You haven't even seen the plans. I just heard Doug on the radio and he says they'll be released next Thursday. You're going to say that regardless. He also says there'll be plenty of Greenspace but Waterfront Toronto just wanted to build a giant park. No affordable housing BTW.
  10. Sure but it needs council approval still. It's not like the shovels will be in the ground next week.
  11. You said it was a backroom deal. It clearly isn't. You just disagree with the plans.
  12. I knew you're solution would be affordable housing. No way in Haides you'd think nice single family homes would be a good idea right? Sorta like they have in Oakville. There are already plenty of Condo's already on the waterfront in the west end so that's not a reasonable solution. So why don't we build homes for poor people. Take some of the most valuable real estate in the city and instead of turning it over to the private sector that might actually create some tax revenue. Or you could build a Regent Park like slum there. That would be great for the waterfront. Waterfront Toronto says they have a plan for the area but haven't really revealed it. So who's doing backroom deals. Doug Ford hasn't done anything about this yet, he's just revealed plans to do something. What's wrong with that?
  13. I'm mulling over getting Netflix but it's selection isn't quite as good as you'd indicate. There's no new content. You get HBO and you get the latest of many great Shows. TMN is much better and worth the extra $12. Downloading in Full HD will use up your bandwidth limit really fast. I don't know what your limit is but downloading everything you want in 1080p will use it up fast. Netflix is not 1080p BTW. I find it funny that people think searching for something on a bit torrent and downloading it is better to just turning on your TV and scanning what some channel has to offer. I can retire into my bedroom and watch a portion of a show before I sleep without caring about how much bandwidth it's going to use.
  14. Apparently there is a plan and it'll be privately funded. Whether you believe Doug or not. You may think these things are tacky but those are the type of things that may bring people to see the Toronto Waterfront from outside. That's why Niagara Falls is really successful. Sure there's an impressive Waterfall but it's got tons of stuff to do there entertainment wise. You call it tacky but at least it attracts tourists from all over the world. I think residential development along the water has kinda ruined the west-end with all the Condo-buildings.
  15. As opposed to what? Another government funded theatre? A Beach Volleyball Court? Man you must hate Niagara Falls.
  16. Perhaps but what exactly was the organization doing for the Toronto waterfront in the past few years? BTW didn't the Monorail work for Odgenville and North Havenbrook?
  17. Everything about this post is wrong. Cable TV is great. I find it hilarious that people think streaming and downloading their shows is better than watching shows from your sofa in Full High Def. Sports is crappy online (when the Dolphins aren't on TV I'll take what I can get though) Cable TV is very customizable to your likes and wants. I like watching documentaries about WW2 and aviation programming. The Military Channel and History TV are fantastic. My wife likes watching Movies. We have TMN. 2 New HD movies every week and you get OnDemand services the rest of the public wastes bandwidth on. HBO programming is also very good. People who think Cable is useless are pretty ignorant.
  18. This is a stupid post. Typical of a McGuinty supporter. Dalton doesn't give a flying fuck about the Ontario middle-class. First of all the sole reason John Tory lost was because he stupidly thought that perhaps people should have fairness in regards to being able to send their children to faith-based schools. It certainly wasn't his economic policy that sank him. I frequently listen to John Tory on the radio in Toronto. He's far from a Blue Tory. Today he was ballwashing McSqiggly about his platform for re-introducing house calls for doctors. He thinks toll roads in Toronto is a good idea. I don't think Tory supporter are looking for too many tax relief measures. We just want the obvious trend of much higher taxes and costs to be slowed or stopped. Dalton has already pledged to increase hydro bills and he plans to pay Samsung far above market rate for electricity that is pretty unreliable. Should he get another mandate there is no reason for him to keep his word after in the election either. All these "Green Jobs" he pledges is code word for publically subsidized jobs that can't sustain themselves. Why is the idea that this province has a spending problem ignored by you people. McGuinty has increased spending by 70% since he's been in power. He's in the pocket of all the public service unions in the province. He said he'd freeze public wages and most sectors have since received healthy increases at a time when many in the private sector have lost their jobs. What about when Daddy Dalton planned to build a power station in Oakville but because they were rich it was a swing Liberal riding they said they didn't actually need to station. Then a few kms down the 401 he now says he'll build one in Mississauga. He's a lying piece of garbage and I pray this sob story that some modest tax relief is going to ruin this province doesn't get him elected for a third time.
  19. Until Polls showed that the NDP could form the opposition they were an afterthought to most people in the country. BTW Punked, I'd really like to know some of the difference between the parties. To the CPC it's irrelevant because these are people that won't vote for them anyway. It's not some national uprising of Liberals and Conservatives that suddenly saw Orange.
  20. Angus's post was fantastic. Dog's however should be treated like dogs. People who like to treat them like four-legged humans suffer from some sort of neurosis.
  21. The NDP only made marginal gains outside of Quebec. And in Quebec they essentially replaced the Bloc. Now as punked likes to point out, in regards to their current leader, People can vote for the Bloc and not believe in separation. Which means the Bloc and the NDP differ very little in political ideology.
  22. Which isn't an indication of his popularity compared to Jack Layton. Who won the election? It's just that people who vote CPC have lives and perspective. I couldn't imagine shedding a tear over a lost political leader.
  23. Wouldn't something more noble be to have donations made to the Cancer Society?
  24. What else would a think tank do but forward it's party or ideologies agenda. That's by definition partisan. It's not bad or anything. Cept when you tell people who are mourning to donated to that cause.
  25. So you would think it's in bad taste. So only partisan think tanks that the dead person founded is acceptable.
