  1. Yeah but that course in Montreal was built for F1 cars. I'm sure an F1 car can't beat an Indycar around an oval, nor should it should because F1 cars aren't built for that.
  2. Plus they can use their hands.
  3. Sure, but you have yet to provide any evidence that any of the many events or sports you've slagged in this thread stand any chance of being yanked from the Olympics. The 200m final is soon, people seem pretty pumped to watch that. Just because Usian Bolt is favoured in both the 100 and the 200 events doesn't mean the IOC is going to reconsider having it in the Olympics. I looked it up. There are 10 nations that compete in Test Cricket: The 5 day version. In a Cricket World Cup those 10 teams get an automatic bids and other nations (like Canada) can qualify. The version they play in the World cup limits each inning to 50 over (6 bowls an over). The flashy club Cricket you see being played in India has a 20 over limit. Interestingly I've heard the IPL cricket music being played at the Beach Volleyball venue at these Olympics. Just like with Men's Soccer (at its highest level) and proper Rugby (not 7's), I don't believe Cricket needs to be in the Olympics to further it's exposure or to determine the best team in the world. The World Cups do that nicely. The skill set required to take a car that can go 200 mph around a banked oval 2 or 3 wide is different than that of driving an F1 car around a road course. Indycar is hybrid of both sports. I think a good comparison would be the differences between Road Racing, (a la Tour de France) Mountain Biking and Track Cycling in a Velodrome. All use a bike, all require vastly different skill sets.
  4. Another point here. Much like Men's Soccer, Cricket and Rugby have large World Cups to determine the best international teams in the sport. An Olympics Tournament would be a sideshow. Sort of like the Men's Olympics Soccer tournament which is no more than a JV tournament. I saw Honduras hanging with Brazil in a game earlier this week. When it comes to other sports like Men's Ice Hockey and Men's Basketball, the Olympics are a better method of determining the the top International nation because a 1 and half week tournament is a lot more do-able in those sports rather than the one-month extravaganzas the Soccer, Cricket and Rugby World Cups are. Baseball has tried the World Baseball Classic to determine the best international team with mixed success because the Baseball season is so long that early spring is the only way to avoid conflicting with the club level of the sport. And even then it's so close to Spring Training that many of the best players don't play and/or don't really care about the result all that much.
  5. Again just because you believe sports are unworthy of the Olympics doesn't mean there is any appetite to remove them OR that the IOC think that it would be a good idea. Any evidence that any of these sports you don't like stand any chance of being removed? Women's Ice Hockey has more chance of being pulled than Equestrian. The international version of cricket takes 5 days to complete. The more condensed version (T-20) is more of a club level sport. It's an international sport but still, only perhaps 10 nations really compete at the highest level. Plus one of the top teams is a compilation of West Indian players from many different nations, how would that work? The second most popular participation sport in the world is actually volleyball. Look how many nations compete on an international level in that sport. Turkey, Cuba, China, Japan, Brazil, USA, All of Europe. It's a truly international sport. F1 cars don't go nearly as fast as Indycar or Nascar racecars. You would need a younger person to withstand the the G forces involved in auto racing. Going 200 miles an our on a super speedway is far more dangerous and intensive on the body than going around Silverstone.
  6. Google Play is a really nice marketplace. One of the coolest things about it is that it links to your Gmail account. So if you have the same Gmail address registered with your phone. (You need a Gmail address to have an Android Phone) If you're on a desktop computer (any computer you don't need an iTunes like program loaded) you can find an app and buy it and it'll download to your phone automatically. That's not a game-changer but it's a nice feature. Also the fact that with Kies Air you don't need to sync your phone with iTunes, you just need a Wifi connection. The fact that you need to Sych your iProduct with iTunes is a massive pain in dealing with Apple products.
  7. In the second episode the main character started the episode with a monologue about how Network Evening News was mandated by the government. The purpose was to inform the public and shouldn't have any advertising. He contrasted that to ratings driven cable news. It was a good scene.

    Olympics

I have a feeling one of the reasons Baseball was removed from the Olympics was that there was no way professionals were going to stop MLB to play a sport dominated by 3 or 4 nations. Even the Baseball World Cup the WBC is a bit of a farce. Men's Soccer is a bit of a joke in the Olympics because none of the best players are there. But then with Women's Soccer you know these are the best players in the world and the result is a bit more compelling. The only sport that bans pros from participating is boxing and who really pays attention to pro boxing outside a handful of fights through the year. NHL players in the Winter Olympics has been a great success. The NBA players in the Olympics has garnered plenty of attention. The Olympics should be about the best players in their sport participating otherwise the result is rather tainted. Part of the reasons we don't care about many of these sports outside of the Olympics is that the Olympics is the only thing that matters in these sports. Kurt Browning was a multiple world champion figure skater but because he never won a Gold Medal in the Olympics his career is missing something.
  9. They kinda are. No where in that comparison does it mention, RAM, or Speed. Also they're comparing a phone with 64 gigs of space? With cloud computing who needs 64 gigs? You going to buy a phone looking for pixel density and the fact it's smaller (also with a smaller screen) and has a camera button? Or the fact that the App store has 25,000 more apps. (400,000 vs 425,000) By all objective standards the GS3 is a better phone.
  10. My Samsung: The Galaxy S2 actually has force feedback vibration when you touch an imaginary button to give you the feel of actually touching a button. You also have a feature on these phones called swype where you can actually draw the word on the keyboard. It's pretty cool. Touch Screens are where it's at right now. In fact I've read the first BB10 phones will be touchscreen. Phones with actual keyboards are a dying breed. Also on my phone I have to press at least two buttons to make a call, most likely three, not to mention unlock my lock screen so I don't know how you can have such a problem with pocket dialing.
  11. This most recent episode was good but still weird. Maggie is proving again what a neurotic chick she is. That brunette Jim is getting to know is very hot, why is she trying to push it? Oh yeah she has a crush on Jim. You got Don there in the plane saying he's missing a story of a generation in the killing of bin Laden. Really Don? There was a different generation covering news in 2001? Maybe being a Canadian I don't have proper perspective on this, but they treated the death of bin Laden as VE day. Wouldn't they know that in the case of international terrorism killing the head doesn't really end the problem? It's not like fundamentalist Islam had been defeated. Don't get me wrong, it was a big story but the writers made it seem like it was "THE" big story. I didn't get that from the media coverage I experienced when the event happened. I heard just as much for accolades for Seal Team Six and the fact that Operation Geronimo is kind of racist. Having Will get high was sort of a throwaway bit of comedy because he, of course, didn't act intoxicated when it mattered.
  12. Earlier in this thread we were talking about corrupt Soccer officials. Well Canadians saw a good example of this in yesterdays Canada v USA game. Well either that or incompetence. Canada was up 3-2 with 10 minutes to go and the US was given a free kick inside their penalty zone. The US player kicked the ball at a Canadians arm and then a Penalty shot was given. The US later scored with 2 minutes left in Overtime. Pretty shitty way for Canada to lose. http://www.cbc.ca/olympics/soccer/story/2012/08/06/sp-olympics-soccer-women-canada-usa-day-10.html?cmp=rss
  13. Well what wyly is ignoring is that there are sports in the Olympics like shooting and archery that don't require you to be a top athlete, you just need a certain skill. I think someone competed in archer this year who was blind. Golf is coming into the Olympics in 2016. Out of shape guys like Angel Cabrerra and John Daly can win majors in Golf. You can be in your 40's or 50's and win. Look at Ernie Els winning the British Open a few weeks ago. 3 years ago Tom Watson came a playoff away from winning a major golf tournament he was 60. That being said, Golf is probably the hardest thing I've ever tried to do. And training and riding a horse is not easy no matter how old you are. Of course I'm sure wyly's response is that none of these sports should be included either. But there's no steadfast definition of what's an Olympics sport. I think the idea is there's a lively international field of people that compete in the sport. Which is why American Football will never be in the games, as well as a certain popularity. Exactly we never saw women's ski jumping included in 2010. BTW regarding auto racing it's an advantage to be fit but you certainly don't have to be. Look at Tony Stewart in Nascar. Mario Andretti raced Indycar when he was at an advanced age as well. In auto sports more than anything it's the car you're driving over anything. Look at what happened to Jacque Villeneuve once he was forced to drive on a lesser team.
  14. Sure but you can't deny there's a faction of the clientele that believe owning an Apple product is a status symbol. Like this dude. http://americandigest.org/pb-120316-ipad-celebrate-ps.jpg Now I'm sure people that act like this are few and far between. But just like mocking Teaparty members it's a faction of a group that act so ridiculous that mockery is inevitable. I believe the Apple lawsuit is a result of Apple thinking that their base would continue to bring them lofty profits but another player has done what they do but do it better.
  15. I could do without the Love Triangle. It proves only to keep Don a main character as he's an EP of another show. Allison Pill's (From Toronto) is massive ditz. The fact that these two well read guys are jockeying for her affection is rather unbelievable. Mackenzie also comes off as socially awkward and annoying. Munn, Waterson and Daniels make the show IMHO. Dev Patell's character has also come into his own even though a few episodes he had his co-workers watching a power-point dealing with the existence of Big Foot.
  16. Olivia Munn speaking Japanese is hawt!
  17. He's stuck between a rock and a hard place. I think talking tough with the teachers is something a majority of Canadians support. But at the same time he's alienating his base. As long as Hudak keeps to the right of him here(which he's successfully doing), I doubt he'll pick up any support from the Centre-Right but he stands to lose a lot from the Centre-Left. Where does the Working Unions . . . I MEAN . . . Working Families Coalition throw their support behind if Dalton legislates a Pay Freeze.
  18. Not sure how many of you people pay for HBO. It's not the Game of Thrones or True Blood type show someone would think to download but it's a pretty awesome show. It's like 5 episodes in and I find it my 3rd favourite HBO show behind Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empires. So who's seen it? It from Aaron Sorkin of West Wing fame. If you're into the news it's pretty cool because it takes place in the recently past so they deal with real issues as they happen. BP Oil Spill, Tea Party Uprising, Gabby Giffords Shooting, Arab Spring, Japan Earthquake etc.
  19. You could also claim that wrestlers could use the Olympics as a stepping stone to MMA. I wonder how long before that becomes an Olympic sport.
  20. Golf in 2016 won't be the biggest prize to any of the participants, Nor will 7's Rugby, I'd say. Boxing isn't the peak of its sport. Not sure if Beach Volleyball Gold is the biggest thing since there are professional circuits out there. Gold Winter Olympics obviously isn't the biggest for Men's Hockey players.
  21. Apple seems to care since they're currently in suing Samsung because they believe the Galaxy devices are ripped off. They say, they have a similar shape and have similar touch screen gestures as the iProducts. Android has 59% market share and Samsung is the world's largest mobile phone maker so they're beating Apple at their own game. If you can't win . . . SUE!!! I started a thread about it with little interest. Also I, like other Android users, find Apple Fan boys amusing and like to comment on them. The people that say they can't wait for the iPhone 5 when nothing proposed on the phone is terribly innovative or original is actually quite interesting. You probably aren't one of those people. Why do you feel the need to defend them? Believe it or not but I'm a print graphic designer too. I use both platforms almost daily. I'm probably more informed than most at the difference between Windows and Mac. And the truth is, it's not that much. File management is nicer on a Mac but so what? The truth is the most important thing is the software you're using. For example Adobe Creative Suite. But for a vast majority of people that use computers for personal use, the advantages aren't worth the increased price. I'll ignore that bed comment. Tablets are useful, no question. Some of my best friends have actually switched from Blackberry and purchased a Galaxy Note. Which is an Android phone with a 5.5" screen and a stylus. They're known as Fablets. My one friend who's a contractor loves it because he can make notes on a photo by simply drawing, sort of like having a notebook. I guess if you want to use it for professional purposes then great. For me 4.5" inches on a Galaxy phone is fine. My wife has a simple Kobo Tablet. It works for her but it's processing power is annoying, I prefer using my phone. I just looked up the New iPad's speed and Ram. It's got 1gb of Ram but still only 1GHz speed. My phone is 1.5 GHz with the same RAM as the iPad.
  22. Yeah people bitch about the Sunshine Girl or Gotcha Journalism but the Star sends people to the Mayor's house and to stalk him at the cottage. Oh and goes to press on photos of him leaving a KFC.
  23. Again no evidence for that. Micheal Coren has a degree in English Literature, Krista Erickson worked for the CBC so she must have had some form of Journalism eduction to get ter, but whatever. The Sun is sort of McNews but a lot of what we see on the Star has become short and concise news too.
  24. I've used both. When it comes to tablet/phone/mobile devices Android kicks iOS's ass. Apple is so far behind Android when it comes technology. From what I hear of the rumours of iPhone 5 it doesn't compete with the Galaxy S3. You can say that Apple has more apps but not by much. In fact I'd venture to say many of the apps that aren't made for both platforms are junk and/or games. If you make a decision to purchase what is essentially a mobile computer on the quality of games, I have to question your maturity. As for the computers. I'll always be a fan of the OSX platform. It's very easy to use and doesn't require so much fiddling. But I've had a PC Lap Top computer that cost me $600 in 2008 and the only maintenance I've had in that span is replacing the Harddrive for $200. A starter Mac costs at least $1,500. I've used my computer for graphic arts. Other than the different keyboard configuration the systems are rather similar. I actually prefer loading fonts on a PC. In all honesty what makes a computer experience more enjoyable is the software you're using and the power of the computer. As for Tablets, I find the whole tablet craze annoying. You have this phone you pay a lot of money for and when you get home you put it down and pick up a tablet that's essentially the same thing with a bigger screen. I guess if you have an iPhone with a tiny 3.5" screen you would love the 10" iPad screen.
  25. Really? Do you have access to their mission statement? And does it say that they are focusing their news coverage to under educated people?
