  1. Well the Liberals also had to deal with a Jack Layton led NDP. The NDP has to compete with a Liberal party led by a Colubus Monkey.
  2. The teacher's employer is in a 15 billion dollar deficit, I don't call that good times. If you oppose All-Day Kindergarten then why are unionized teachers demanding getting what is essentially an ECE job? And what are some of the things that would cut costs related to the cost of education? So I'm sure you have evidence to support that everyone that went to school for 5 years currently has gainful employment. What about all those people who went to teacher's college who have to wait for a call everyday to supply teach because there's a dearth of teaching jobs available? Teacher's college really only amounts to one year doesn't it? The degree you have to qualify for teacher's college can be in Art History can't it? Sounds like a conspiracy theory to me. Do you suggest the government not look to cut costs because the deficit is just a corporate plot? Funny how you can compare an executives salary to a teachers but it's not right for a private sector professional to compare what they get to a teacher or other civil servants.
  3. I think people on the right could respect Jack more because he stuck to his convictions compared to Liberals who change their political stripes depending on which way the wind was blowing.
  4. They don't need to make a dramatic comeback for the CPC to retain power. They just need to split the vote enough that neither party can overtake the CPC. In Ontario most ridings are either NDP v Liberals or Liberals v CPC. I don't know of any riding where the Dippers and the Conservatives are the top two parties expected to win. If the NDP overtake the Liberals in Ontario where do the centrist Liberal voters go? certainly not to the NDP.
  5. Or Hudak being 10 points up on McGuinty a month before the election. I mean  We're 3 years out on an election and the Liberals don't have a leader. For Dippers to claim they are on the road to a majority now is beyond laughable. I'm sure Robocalls and F-35s will be top of the mind issues in 2015.
  6. The truth is there are people in the private sector and people in the public sector. And their plight is very different. People in the private sector have seen stagnant wages, furloughs, hiring freezes, layoffs and outsourcing. Say it's the big bad corporations fault, perhaps it is, or it could just be market conditions. It seems that people in the public sector feel they shouldn't share in experience many in the private sector have. When you have people that, while everyone was fearing for their jobs, got huge raises from this government you feel that it's time for them to at least share a little bit in the pain. What about this legislation are you opposing? The teachers have said they'll take a pay freeze as long as they can still move up the grid, which isn't really a pay freeze. The furloughs have happened before. I think it's the sick day thing that's the deal breaker. Which I sort of understand because you're taking something away some might have depended on. But do even the big fat cat 1%ers you hate get a set number of sick they don't lose if they don't use them? Heck most people lose their vacation days if they don't use them. Call it jealousy if you want, I'd call it fairness, especially since the rest of the private sector funds the public sector's wages. And the deficit this horrible government is "trying" to fight is all of our problems not just the teachers.
  7. Though they aren't holding children hostages, both parties use platitudes like "Putting Children First" when neither are. The fact that teacher can bank 20 sick days a year for when they retire has nothing to do with funding going to schools. When you look at how school boards spend money they tend to have little regard for the welfare of children.
  8. Well considering there are only two episodes left for this half of the season and the cold opening to this season revealed that Walt buys a large machine gun in just under a year I'm going to assume whatever he has planned ends up working for a year. I think he might partner with the Phoenix meth guys. But that just puts him in the same situation he was in under Gus Fring so who knows. I think he's at the point that he doesn't care about his family anymore so he won't mind leaving. That dinner with Jesse, Skyler and Walt was the most comically uncomfortable things I've ever seen.
  9. http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/politics/article/1243978--liberals-recall-legislature-in-bid-to-push-through-bill-freezing-teachers-wages The Legislator is being called back next Monday to legislate a wage freeze for teachers The Education Premiere After signing a deal with the NDP to ram through a horrible budget now McDalton has to look to Hudak to be Kingmaker. I doubt the PCs will make this process easy for Dalton. I wonder if the Working Uni. . . I mean Working Families people are on the ground trying to get the Libs elected in Vaughan and K-Dub.
  10. No it's the limitations of your device. What's the Speed and RAM for it? My wife has a Kobo Vox, it's fine for browsing and reading but try to do streaming or multi-functions it's shit. My Samsung Galaxy S2 is twice as fast as the iPad though so I can stream, surf the web and text all at once if I want.
  11. What you don't know fractions are? You are unimportant then!
  12. The gauntlet has been thrown down! http://fullcomment.nationalpost.com/2012/08/17/scott-stinson-ontario-teachers-lose-the-carrot-get-the-stick/ So even if they can't get legislation passed by September, and you know the Dippers will try and Fillibuster, when it does get passed those raises will get clawed back!!! Some tough talk from the McDalton Government. I agree with the PCs though. If you're serious about controlling spending why not legislate a cross the board public-sector wage freeze? The teachers can't collectively bargain but pencil pushers at Service Ontario kiosks can?
  13. Good knows for "Android Fan Boys" http://www.phonesreview.co.uk/2012/08/17/latest-android-4-1-jelly-bean-update-news-for-devices/ I have ICS and have had relatively few problems but I've read lots of horror stories about the OS. A large majority of Android devices are still on OS 2.3 or AKA as Gingerbread. Seems to be the most stable version of the OS. The thing about Android is it's so open form that you can get launchers and apps that do many of the things the latest updates get. That being said the two features that make Jelly Bean interesting are rather compelling. Apparently you can replay to text and e-mail notification straight from the notification bar. So you don't have to launch e-mail or texting software to send an e-mail or a text. And Google Now sounds rather interesting if you don't mind your phone learning from you and recommending stuff for you.
  14. Again you'd have to pose an example of why this person would want to join the Swedish club. Maybe they're married to a Swedish person and want to share in that person's culture. Well it's not harmless when you DQ the team for the harmless behaviour. In the OP I asked if this is really racism or just a coach trying to win a game on a technicality.
  15. If there's a good reason to, why not? I suspect many of the kids playing on this Soccer team, that aren't Indo-Canadian, are just friends of other players. Seems pretty harmless to me. If you're just trying to prove a point by joining a club you otherwise have no interest in joining, then you're a jerk.
  16. The article also gives an example of an Italian Group that doesn't discriminate at all. So the question is if you find this type of discrimination cool. If you do whatever. But growing up in a multicultural community, I do find this type of separation troubling. Especially since this is a league for 12 year olds.
  17. Because you can be as Canadian as anyone else born in this country, but I bet you'd be able to play in this league because of the colour of your skin.
  18. Another example would be the CFL. Each team has to have a minimum number of Canadian players. So they do discriminate. But they don't discriminate on the race of those Canadians. Race and Nationality are two very different things.
  19. I'm not the one who brought in Nationality. Others in this thread have said that there's nothing wrong with what happened here because there are Italian only clubs and church softball leagues and stuff like that. I'm just highlighting that it's a false comparison because these groups are discriminating on race.
  20. No but what I am saying is that comparing a league that limits the members based on race is far different from having a league or group that are meant for people of a certain nationality or religion. It'd be interesting, though, if someone was born in India but was white, would they be treated the same way as a Canadian born person that was clearly South Asian.
  21. In this part of the country I doubt that disparity exists. It sounds like very multicultural place. And it wasn't just white people that were on this team, apparently black people were on it too. Oh and basing a group on nationality is one thing but race is something completely different. You can have a team of all Italians, but what if you're Italian and black? There was a Soccer player in the World Cup on the Italian team that was black. He had an Italian name but what black, I doubt anyone would say he doesn't deserve to be on that team because he's "not Italian enough"
  22. Well yeah, that's why this is news. There was a team that had more than four "imports". Another coach called them on it and they were disqualified. Seems really silly.
  23. Not sure who's keeping up with Season 5. There are two extraordinary, jaw-dropping episodes of Breaking Bad that, I thought, were just awesome. The season 3 episode "One Minute" where the Salamanca cousins and Hank have a shoot out in a parking lot and "Faceoff" where Gus get's his . . . face taken off. Last night's episode was probably in my top 3 of Breaking Bad episodes. So well written, the train heist was so suspenseful that you totally forget that we still haven't dealt with the kid on the dirt bike yet. Well he was dealt with. This episode opens a pandora's box of deep dark things our anti-heroes can get into. I've read this, and I agree. Walt and Lydia are more in-tune with each other than he is with Mike. She might be his excuse to get rid of Mike.
  24. He also said that everyone over 40 has an increased risk of heart attack and stroke. So basically they are always bad for you.
  25. Yeah but this study doesn't prove eggs cause heart attacks. What other factors are being ignored in the people with high plaque build-up in their arteries. What about activity and other good foods that mitigate excessive cholesterol production.
