  1. He also was defeated in the 2007 Provincial election, he got no support from Toronto.
  2. Hilarious. John Tory is rejected by Toronto twice but now that you have Rob Ford he'll be the best thing ever.
  3. And pointed out numerous times, in Ontario anyway, the idea of this got panned in a referendum. This thread is just one big circular argument on both sides.
  4. So what he'll be a Canadian Tupac?
  5. They should make Labrador a Territory to really piss OttawaNow off.
  6. He wrote one of the most iconic Canadian songs. Everyone knows the Hockey Song. Just wondering if a National Day of morning and all it entails is necessary. I'm ambivalent about it. I wouldn't protest the decision though. More people liked him than Jack Layton though.
  7. CBC is an OTA Network, so pretty much. The question is does the CRTC require CBC News to be on Basic Cable. Again this isn't as big a deal as you would think. Across the country CTS is available on basic cable. It shows pretty much the same stuff as Vision did. I even get a CTS HD. I'm surprised Vision has lasted so long.
  8. Apparently people want a State funeral for him.
  9. Seems too. People are still complaining even after he took City Letterhead off his fundraising letters.
  10. Notice you're not proposing to move because everywhere else in Canada worth living already has one.
  11. Not if you made it purely a popular vote. I have the admit the Electoral College is very silly.
  12. What would you think about a more American system where people vote for their PM separately from from their local MP? Municipal elections are run this way. You vote for regional and local representatives and the Mayor separately. In Canada the Mayor is just another vote (weak mayor system). If you did it federally I would support the PM having all the powers he/she has now except no control over his party's caucus in the House of Commons.
  13. But then all the people that voted for Party B would be sad, and we can't have that.
  14. I have a sudden urge to Buy original real and Fake passports, driver's license

  15. Saying votes cast for a losing candidate are wasted votes is sort of like saying the goals a team scores in a losing effort are wasted. There should be a way that goals scored in a losing effort should go towards helping said team in the standings.
  16. No, your MP is elected to represent you even if you didn't vote for them. Whether they actually do that is what's subjective.
  17. I like Michael's analysis that the demand for different election models are a byproduct of a society where people aren't taught that there are winners and losers everyone should win. It seems a generation is coming up that can't handle failure.
  18. Again I can live more with a Liberal candidate than I can an NDP candidate but I wouldn't put a Liberal candidate second EVER because I live in an area where the NDP aren't very popular and I'd just be making it easier for the Liberal to win. It's just a method to make strategic voting easier.
  19. The Ranking idea is absolutely horrible. Let's say you only support one party? Is your ballot spoiled if you don't provide a second choice? The ranking system could allow a candidate that is the first choice of very few people win because the most people don't find him totally objectionable. For example if I HAD to rank the major parties I might to put the Liberals second, but what if I don't want them to win and they have more perceived support than the NDP? I would never put the Liberals second, I would always put the NDP second in-order to dimish the Liberals chance or winning. So with this system you're more voting for who want to lose more than who you want to win. How many people who hate the Conservatives would put them last (behind the Communist party and the Christian Heritage Party just to keep them from being elected) It's a system fraught with problems and I hope it never sees the light of day.
  20. The Orange Bloc is a moniker that might stick in the ROC.
  21. In this instance he didn't.
  22. I don't think anyone can deny the NDP made its gains in Quebec at the expense of the Bloc. The fact there are closet separatists in their caucus is hardly surprising. Remember the interim leader Jack named before he died. She had separatist ties right?
  23. So the PCs of the early 90s and the current CPC are the same? Perhaps, but they clearly lost there way which led to a split of the party and the creation of the Bloc and the Reform Party.
  24. No way the Liberals do this. http://www.thestar.com/news/queenspark/2013/03/01/andrea_horwath_warns_of_election_if_auto_insurance_premiums_arent_cut.html I've read the NDP also are going to propose a bill to scrap the ridiculous OLG modernization plan. On the other side the PCs are pushing them to freeze all public sector wages now. I don't see how this government lasts until the Summer.
