So were these lobbyists being bullied?

Liberal Art Grads Less Likely to Pay Back Student Loans
Boges replied to Boges's topic in Political Philosophy
Perhaps they should ask them. Now they may change their mind, but there's no justification for taking out a loan doing a "Stem" program and leaving it at that. When they come out and can't pay back the loan people blame the government or the schools. -
Unions Using Teachers Using Students
Boges replied to Big Guy's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
I've read that the reason OSSTF backed off was that many kids were wanting to try and go to a Catholic School for next year if they could. -
Liberal Art Grads Less Likely to Pay Back Student Loans

If you're doing Liberal Arts as a springboard to something else then I have no problem with that. BUT this study indicates that people are getting Liberal Arts degrees and leaving it at that. -
Unions Using Teachers Using Students
Boges replied to Big Guy's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
The Elementary teachers are refusing to lift their ban on Extra-Curriculars. MCC is right, this is a really militant union, apparently you can't even blame the Union, the membership is demanding this. Well that's what Sam Hammond says anyway. -
White House Caught Threatening Reporter
Boges replied to sharkman's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
This was on Jon Stewart last night. In context the e-mail doesn't seem like a threat at all. Woodword is being a bit dramatic here. -
You're 100% correct Derek. I took a peek at the guide description for this Sunday's episode and they are out looking for ammo. COMIC SPOILER!!!!!!!! In the comic they go to a Walmart for supplies and encounter Woodbury residents and completely PWN them.

And where is the Federal PC party today? In the end only some guy named David Orchard wanted to save it. Placating Nationalists is a dangerous bidness.

Let's argue why EI reform is horrible again.
Boges replied to Boges's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Or people could actually look for work during temporary layoff periods. Apparently under this system the government even e-mails you applicable job listings. What bugs me is when people say that they shouldn't have to pay EI premiums if they can't claim EI every off season. EI should be set aside for permanent layoffs otherwise, as said before in this thread, it's just a corporate subsidy. -
It's only Bullying when it's happening to you. Otherwise it's simply justified. The Ford's say sending those e-mails to lobbyists was an error. They will refund any money raised from a registered lobbyist. NEXT!

Yeah well he was regularly on the CBC so what does that say about them? :-/

Liberal Art Grads Less Likely to Pay Back Student Loans
Boges replied to Boges's topic in Political Philosophy
Yeah but they move on to other things. I'm sure this study is taking that into consideration. A lawyer's education costs must be huge but their future income should compensate for that. Lots of teachers take Liberal Arts degrees before moving on. -
It's not like he e-mailed these lobbyists and said they had to contribute "or else". Doug said it was just a mass e-mail that was sent out.

If the "Left" can decide on one person to go against Ford then he'll be in tough. But will all the "Progressives" fall behind the banner of Chow? In 2010 Joey Pants refused to step aside and let Smitherman take on Ford One-on-One. There are plenty of people on the left that might want the glory: Fletcher, Carroll, Vaughan. Will they all step aside and let Chow run alone. Of course assuming Chow runs. Polls like this still try to see what would happen if John Tory runs.

Liberal Art Grads Less Likely to Pay Back Student Loans
Boges posted a topic in Political Philosophy
Just as we hear that governments are being forced to write off a large number of student loans, we have this study. http://www.guelphnow.ca/npps/story.cfm?nppage=1813 Is this a surprise to anyone? It baffles me why anyone would consider taking out a loan to go into a program that has little to no prospect of employment. I really do think student loan organizations should look at the employment prospect of a program before giving a loan. You certainly have to defend the program you want to go into when you apply to a second career program. I know people will complain that they can't find decent work but why should you expect gainful employment with a History degree or an English Degree or a Human Rights Degree. -
Does Ford have a track record for punishing people that don't donate to his football foundation?

Canada Conservative forever? Hahahahaha!
Boges replied to jacee's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
It's the most extreme form of Conservatism. Ultimately it's a grassroots organization (which is laudable) but what it's proving to do in the US is forcing moderate republicans to the right and making any efforts at bi-partisan compromise almost impossible. Republicans fear being challenged in a Primary more than actually facing an election. And you have Tea Party candidates losing very winnable seats in the Senate because of their extreme views. Obama isn't all that bad but because of the Tea-Party they can't even agree with Obama if he claims water is wet. We don't see that here in Canada. Harper was able to govern with a minority for 5 years. Hudak's Conservatives worked with the Liberals with Bill 115 even though they didn't think it went far enough. -
This one didn't have City Letterhead on it, but I guess it's still wrong because he sent it to known lobbyiest. Apparently lobbyiests will feel pressured to give money to the football team or fear reprisal from the Fords. I wonder if they have any evidence of Ford being that vindictive?

It's like the Hidden Agenda BS that the Liberals went on about in 2006. -
Canada Conservative forever? Hahahahaha!
Boges replied to jacee's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Define Tea Party Supporters? Throwing out terms like Tea Partiers in Canada is akin to someone calling an NDPer a communist. It's just a dismissive label that does nothing to foster debate. Sure Hudak is a Conservative and wants less government and wants to weaken public service unions, I'd image that's a sentiment across this province, why else would the Ontario Liberals go that way? The PCs just want them to go further. No where in Hudak's policies will you find radical gun control views, a sentiment to completely eliminate public healthcare, a proliferation of religion in schools, wanting to debate abortions. Those are all things the Tea Party seem militant about. Regarding taxes, Ontario's taxes are quite high already (They've gone up significantly Mguinty rule) so a view that we should see no new taxes aren't comparable to the Tea Party's refusal to discuss tax hikes at all, because taxes are at historic lows in the US.
