  1. He got invited, he just didn't RSVP. I think he did it on purpose so he could play the victim card again.
  2. Saw the 3rd Episode of True Detective. Other than Harrelson's character beating up his mistresses boy toy we still haven't seen a nano-second of real pulse-pounding action. But Damn, hearing the present day character say to the investigators "Have you ever been in a gun fight?" and the other character say there's usually a monster at the end of your nightmares, then to see some serial killer looking guy walking down a field at some sort of compound only to go to black. BRILLIANT!!! I guess this is why people binge watch TV shows these days. I can hear all the atheists going Hell Yeah! to McConaughey's character constantly trashing religion. But for someone who sees self-awareness as a mutation he does seem to think about religion an awful lot.
  3. Lots of theories on that one. http://www.psmag.com/navigation/health-and-behavior/rise-food-allergies-first-world-problems-67067/ I tend to believe that people's obsession with cleanliness leads to the unintended consequence of allergies. People don't build up resistance to stuff if they're not allowed to play in some dirt and eat a variety of foods. But I'm not an expert or anything.
  4. I have no doubt you can use waste as fuel. I guess the question is how long would it take to change from oil production to growing biofuels and could it meet the demand for oil. I personally think having cars run on Natural gas would be a great (and much cheaper than electric cars) alternative to gasoline. The powers that be haven't moved that way though. But I can see alternatives to Oil and Gasoline on the horizon but don't force it down the throats of the consumer, at a much greater price.
  5. BTW the problem with using food as energy is that it makes food, which we sort of use to eat, is that it makes it cost more. http://www.technologyreview.com/news/423385/ethanol-blamed-for-record-food-prices/
  6. I guess the people down there aren't just opposed to Large US retailers. They hate Large Canadian retailers too. http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/2014/01/28/loblaws_set_to_open_beside_kensington_market.html This Nimby attitude is so anti free market. Not everyone can afford over priced groceries at a tourist trap.

Maybe in 2007. They raised the prices and team only got worse. They don't draw very well anymore. Both Montreal and Vancouver have been much better teams.

I guess it changed since 2010 then?

  7. Mentioned earlier that I like it. It's funny because nothing "exciting" has happened in the first two episodes but the dialogue is excellent. You can attribute a lot to the fact that they're using top shelf actors. This isn't an ongoing series though, this story will come to a close after 8 episodes and if the show comes back it'll be a different story with different actors. This is the 3rd HBO show I know of set in Louisiana, must be a very interesting place.
  8. It's hard to argue with an opinion but I think BE is one of the best shows on TV today. The fact the show doesn't really have to much of a central focus is a positive thing. You have several characters with a loose relationship to one guy (Nucky) but they do their own thing. Some arcs are stronger than others, but that's to be expected. It's not the most action-packed shows but when it does action, it does it very well. The other thing I love about the show is that it basically has origin stories for some of the world's most famous prohibition era gangsters. This is something we don't see in shows/movies surrounding these gangster all that often. The relationship between Lucky Luciano and Joe Masseria was dealt with in the movie Mobsters but it wasn't nearly in depth as we see in BE. I'm looking forward to how BE handles the death of Masseria, the Death of Rothstein, the St. Valentines Day Massacre etc. etc. I thought they did a good job with the death of Frank Capone.
  9. Part of what's stopping that is the lowering of wages here. You see all these Unionized jobs in Ontario leave, not to India but to the US. It's why "Right to Work" might and should get some traction in Ontario for the coming Ontario election.
  10. If I was him I would have shot those guys too. :-D Up until that moment the Van Alden storyline was rather boring. He was just this pathetic guy that had fallen off his perch. SPOILER!!!!! Having Eli banished to Chicago to work with Capone will make both character's story arch fascinating. I'm sure Van Aldan knows Eli, but I'm unsure if Eli knew Van Alden. Either way it'll be one of the more interesting things in the future season.
  11. Boardwalk needs to keep going until at least Capone becomes the historic Capone we know. Introducing an Elliot Ness character would be awesome. I've been watching the Ken Burns documentary on Prohibition on Netflix and it's quite interesting to see how much Boardwalk Empires gets it right. Though, the documentary spends a lot of time on George Remus. Remus is depicted as a bit of a baffoon on BE but his story is quite interesting. (Getting away with killing his wife etc) But his interactions with Doherty and Jess Smith is spot on. The way the made a fictional character (Van Alden) interweave into real life events in the life of Capone is great work. I can't say enough good stuff about the fourth season of BE. It's getting better, not worse. Orange is the New Black is a good show, looking forward to a second season. True Detective on HBO is a current show I'm really interested in right now.
  12. We can see this with Canada Post. Home delivery of paper can be efficiently be done electronically but people still have a stake in well paid unionized humans. So we see the LPC trying to protect Canada Post for purely political and not pragmatic reasons.
  13. The 1996 World Cup had a best 2 out of 3 final round. No international tournament in any sport I know of has series' like in North American club sports.
  14. Just heard on the radio a rumour that Calgary is willing to host the 2018 Winter Games if the bleep hits the fan in Sochi. South Korea is supposed to be the host. Them being bordered by a rogue state is certainly cause for concern.
  15. I see a lot of selective outrage. If Stephen Harper supports child torture then supports of Palestine support firing rockets at civilians and people blowing themselves up in public areas. People are upset because one of the 200+ delegation has anti-gay views. Yet few Israeli activists give Israel credit for being the only Middle Eastern state that is welcoming of homosexuals?
  16. Is that why the Union is trying to appeal to the public with crying babies and firefighters holding teddy bears? There are two thoughts on the issue of Firefighter funding. 1) Do you base it on the the number of fires that needed fighting in the past or 2)Do you just have coverage based on response time. This is why Firefighters almost always beat the police and ambulance to scenes. They base the location of stations throughout the city on response time. But if they're largely just sitting at the station twiddling their thumb or showing up at fender benders where they aren't required then it's sensible to suggest cutting their budget.
  17. In Toronto the airwaves are being plastered by advertising by the Toronto Fire Service. They are basically implying that modest cuts to the budget will result in dead babies. http://news.nationalpost.com/2014/01/22/we-cant-afford-the-risk-toronto-fire-fighters-paint-dire-picture-if-trucks-are-removed/ It's interesting that there was no outcry about public safety when firefighters called in sick en masse.
  18. So apparently Ford was supposed to have a News Conference and he was over an hour late because he was . . . wait for it. . . Stuck in an Elevator. Seriously you can't make up the the narrative that surrounds this guy.
  19. Rob Ford is sending Justin Bieber a Bouquet of Flowers today.

  20. I was listening to some talking heads on sports radio about the Oilers. They said their problem is that their best players are really young guys. So where is the veteran talent to lead them? And can they sign good veterans when all the money is going to a bunch of young kids. Bringing in castoffs from other teams like Bryzgalov or Scrivens won't help either. They need a proper starting goalie. On the other hand the Leafs are the 3rd youngest team in the league but still has veteran talent locked up for awhile. I will agree that the Clarkson deal is turning out to be a gigantic dog. Hopefully he'll end up being more productive if the team makes the playoffs. Keep in mind, also, they're winning without Bolland. You'd have to think the team will be much better when he returns.
  21. Well if you live in an environment like that, then why not just use public transit or buy an E-bike or a Vespa and rent a car when you leave? BTW that article is stupid. Who keeps a car for 15 years? If it takes 15 years to realize a gas savings, that's not a good investment. Also I've heard that the batteries on these cars last no longer than 7 years. So you'd need to replace the batter twice over that period. ALSO don't the hybrids also plug-in? Where's the increased cost of hydro in that equation?
  22. I can understand why the candidate would take that position considering the Windsor area is CAW country. I also don't think dismissing this candidate is something that stands to hurt Hudak as I doubt they have any chance of winning a seat in the Windsor area anyway.
