Ontario considering restricting Gambling Advertising
Boges replied to Boges's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Sure, as said, I would actually restrict Sports Gambling more than what's proposed here. It's really become almost an invasive disease in Canada since it was allowed. -

Sure, but using an Athlete or a "real" celebrity ads more credibility. -
In 2007, PC Candidate John Tory, proposed allowing other faith school to receive public funding. He was soundly defeated, mostly because of the policy. I don't think there's a real appetite to remove Public Catholic schools. For parents, Catholic school seem more like poor man's private school. You have to wear a uniform, get taught about Religon, but mostly the same as Public school. Apparently in Secondary School, you don't really even need to be Catholic to attend. Though a lot oppose it, a lot also approve of it. So it's a political third rail for anyone looking to have Catholic School Boards disbanded.

https://www.cp24.com/sports/ontario-proposing-to-ban-online-gambling-ads-featuring-athletes-celebrities-1.6355087 Gambling sites must be the #1 funder of Sports media these days. You can't watch a sporting event without being inundated with Gambling ads. I don't oppose Sports Gambling. As gambling goes, it's probably the fairest method, but the marketing has gone too far. Sure free market, whatever. It's a highly addictive activity that should be regulated. If that means not glorifying like the sites do now, I'm all for it. What really bugs me, and isn't addressed here, is how Sports media has completely sold its soul to Gambling companies. For every NFL game shown on Canadian TV last year, they included a sponsored segment that looked an awful lot like a real pre-game show. It would would be so easy, and likely, for Fan Duel to dictate the result its talent to promotes based on what would benefit them. The House wins when an equal number of people bet for each result, so if too many people are betting for a result, tell the talent that NO! actually I think the Jaguars can cover here. It's really gross.

Ontario needs to invest in EVs as a realistic Option.

The number of people that die of Air pollution is so much higher every year than have ever died from all Nuclear power incidents combined. It's really one of those fears that lack perspective. -

It's what France is doing. The fear of Nuclear is weird. -

Germany is gonna be the Right's favourite country going forward. They seem to be the only one NOT moving towards greener tech. I guess because they put all their eggs in LNG from Russia. SEE! SEE! Looks what Germany is doing!!! -

Well. . . just imagine how many day-to-day tasks a fully charged EV can power. 30-100 kwh can power a lot of stuff. Newer EVs will be able to feed into the grid as well as take from it. -
Deficit Spending became "normalized" after the 2008 Recession. Up until then it was, more or less, expected to try for a balanced budget. Remember when Harper tried to balance the budget even though the entire world was going into a huge recession and the opposition parties threatened to form a coalition to force him into Keynsian spending. Inflation is a byproduct of the pandemic, and Russia. It's became harder to get stuff as demand rebounded faster than supply. I've actually already noticed a normalizing of grocery prices. However that may be because the Grocery barrons are being shamed that they've maintained profit margins through a heavy inflationary period.

Well you can just continue to yell at clouds.

And providing someone a 10 minute medical procedure may actually improve his family planning decisions without having to worry about other, more expensive forms of birth control. Like say, abortions.

Why should the taxpayer pay for some old dude's new knee? Why should the taxpayer pay for a woman to have a fourth kid? Why should the taxpayer pay for a smoker's Lung Cancer treatment? You really want to go down this road?
-
Good thing you don't decide what gets covered by our Healthcare system.
-
But a vasectomy? As I said to Herbie OP bait. If you're going to make the Pill free, but not a myriad of other medications people have to pay for if they don't have bennies at work (and even then you have to pay some). Might as well make Condoms free. At least you can confirm it worked right after the "act" vs the Pill or an IUD>

Great! What a good dad you are. My parents helped me too. White Privilege, I suppose. A lot of Millennials aren't so fortunate, so they've decided they won't even consider parenthood. Is covered by OHIP (or whatever provincial insurance plan you use) better? My Vasectomy was "Free". As "Free" as the birth of both my children were. Semantics much?
-
NO! They should be taught that their pre-marital sex comes with consequences!
-
Before industrialization children were an asset because many didn't live to adulthood and they could help on a farm. Without them helping on a farm they turn from an asset to a financial liability. The countries with the fastest birth rate are those with that pre-industrialization mindset. Keep having kids because you'll need em. Also with the increase in a standard of living you want less children. Poorer families have no problem making 4 kids share a bedroom. I, myself, would prefer my kids to have their own room.
-
So I have two young children in my 40's. After my second, I couldn't get a vasectomy fast enough. I don't want to be in my 70's with a teenager. And some 20-year-olds don't have the financial ability to care for kids. BTW don't complain about families not having kids unless you don't completely embrace work-from-home culture. I couldn't imagine having to take a train back from the city to pick up a child from daycare or school because they have a cough. This is Boomers fault. Wages have not risen with the cost of living. It's near impossible to raise a family on a single income. And you have to live out in the Burbs, with a lengthy commute to boot.

Considering how expensive a kid is. . . yeah. I'm sure you don't want the taxpayer-funding fetus killing.

Why did his personal lawyer do time?

You get a lot of that money back with a Rebate. And Oil companies and Car companies get subsidized all the time. Subsidizing big corporations for setting up shop in your town/jurisdiction is a cottage industry. -
So this is a bait thread? LOL I'll bite. If they really wanted to be fair, Condoms should also be free. It's probably more effective and mutual assuring than the Pill. Who's to know if a woman is taking the pill properly. Needing a prescription for Plan B is weird. It's hard enough to get a doctors appointment, you need to get one in a 24-hour period to get the Morning After Pill. I needed it once, it's like $30. On Twitter, I saw Rachel Notely, in Alberta, politicians complaining that these forms of contraception still cost money but vasectomies are covered. Even though Apples to Apples would be a Tubal Ligation. Getting your Tubes ties is a far more involved surgery, but men didn't invent our reproductive systems.

No, but China has also invested more in Green Energy than most other places. Their EV adoption blows the West out of the water. China has the unenviable task of trying to a country of a billion people out of poverty without the natural resources to do it like a Western Nation. -

Doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Most provinces have already banned Coal.
