  1. There's a pretty lively EV thread in the Provincial Politics forum. Do you suppose that LNG emissions to generate electricity, to charge EVs as well as many other things, are more than that from the entire Gasoline refining and transportation industry? That gas has to get to your Gas Station somehow.
  2. As we see from the news last week from St. Thomas. Private companies are more than eager to lean on the public teet to help with setting up shop. What's wrong with governments dictating what type of industry gets that kind of help. Have you seen any indication that's where it's going? Most automakers trying to catch up to Tesla.
  3. EV batteries can be recycled. https://www.globaltechenvironmental.com/recycling-services/battery-recycling/hybrid-ev/?gclid=CjwKCAjwiOCgBhAgEiwAjv5whCgZVJUHNcPzW0GjTCy9JHVccuoev5G5fkQDZRqLLzdpgp_uqQN17hoC1tUQAvD_BwE Again there are so few defunct EVs on the market now that it's not yet that lucrative. I suspect the majority of modern EVs ever made are still on the road. Widespread EV adoption won't happen until there's a viable Used car market. You can get a used EV but the technology is changing so fast it would be like getting an original iPhone. I imagine, like with Smartphones, we'll reach a point where the tech is about as good as it's going to get a newer models aren't that much different than older ones.
  4. In developed parts of the world where EVs will be adopted first. Often the source of Energy is Clean. Even LNG is much cleaner than Coal or Oil and if you're using LNG to power your personal transportation system with the gradual scale back of Gasoline and Crude Oil, I see a net benefit there. I read this week that even Alberta is at the point where they're almost off of Coal. The only real reason to stick with Coal, at this point, is stubbornness. Where items are sensible to recycle it is they are. People are so focused on society's inability to recycle plastic, because collecting and re-purposing plastic is not worth anyone's time or money. It's just easier make new plastic to try and ban it. But there's no issues with metals, glass or paper polluting the oceans, because recycling those product are financially possible. Again this thread is just full of prediction, but when the current generation of EVs reach their end of life in the next 5-10 years, I can't see the rare earth metals that everyone complains are so difficult to extract just being thrown in the ocean or a landfill. Old cars are always scavenged for useful components. It's an actual industry.
  5. When your have the political ideology that spending for military trumps Healthcare it's easy to try to put the screws to countries that provide Universal Healthcare to its citizens while the US spends more on the Military than all NATO countries combined.
  6. I misread the OP. There are quotes in it not attributed to Desantis. I had assumed it all way. Who said this?
  7. To be fair, the OP illustrates that it's only the more Trumpy side of the GOP that thinks Ukraine isn't worth supporting (I wonder why). There is a strong faction of the GOP that recognizes that supporting Putin here is absurdly hypocritical. Which means with Dem support the Pro Putin Crowd is a somewhat fringe minority.
  8. Seems like an invasion of an independent Democracy has convinced much of NATO to re-up on Defence spending. Trump didn't like NATO because Putin doesn't like NATO, simple as that. And now all you Conservative clones would rather Putin annex an independent nation than for Ukraine to win this war. Because that means NATO's support of Ukraine was actually successful.
  9. Admins should take note that this thread has turned into a fresh Ukraine War thread. The idea that a GOP front-runner supports Ukraine is lost on this thread, we're just debating the same things we have for the past year in other threads.
  10. But only the USA when a Dem is in office amiright? Will PP try to remove Canada from NATO if he's elected?
  11. Please note that Russia didn't start their aggression (first with the annexation of Crimea) when Ukraine applied to NATO. Russia started its aggression in 2014 when Putin Puppet, Viktor Yanukovych, was deposed by the people of Ukraine. Putin invaded because he no longer held political influence in Ukraine.
  12. It's good that some Republicans realize this war is a horrific attack on Freedom and Democracy. And the comparisons to Hitler annexing territory in 1939 is a perfect comparable. Anyone who see it otherwise is just an Pro-Putin Chamberlain. pEaCe In OuR tImE.

  14. AFIK Lithium isn't a terribly rare Earth Metal. https://oilprice.com/Energy/Energy-General/No-The-World-Isnt-Running-Out-Of-Lithium.html#:~:text=U.S. geological survey the world, million tonnes of lithium resources. It's just energy intensive to extract. So will Hydrogen and so are the Tar Sands. Mining priorities will have to shift.
  15. Some good news. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/london/volkswagen-ev-battery-plant-ontario-1.6777144 And as predicted, Battery Tech continues to evolve to be both cheaper, and less dependent on Rare Earth Metals. https://www.technologyreview.com/2023/02/17/1068814/meet-the-new-batteries-unlocking-cheaper-electric-vehicles/
  16. It's all semantics no? Female vs Woman Trans women aren't female, but they're women? Most people don't make that distinction so calling it Transphobic or ignorant is actually working against the movement to have trans people accepted in society.
  17. How is it ignorant to believe a man who thinks he's a woman isn't ACTUALLY a woman?
  18. Yesterday was International Women's Day and #transwomenarewomen was trending on Twitter. Our "esteem" PM JT jumped into the fray. This may be a bridge too far for many on the quest for inclusion. Should Trans people face violence? No Should Trans people be respected? Yes Are Trans Women the same as biological women? NO!!!!! Sure an argument can be made that Gender is a construct and boys and girls can be as masculine and feminine as they feel like, and no one is denying them that right. But when a man says he feel like a woman, it doesn't mean they're the same as a person that was born as a women. They never will be. I think it's offensive to women who face a myriad of challenges in this world to say that if a man that feels like a woman is basically the same thing. What argument can be made to support this line of reasoning? This is really a polarizing topic. Conservatives in the US are looking to ban all sorts of Trans rights and Liberals are looking to tar and feather anyone that doesn't tow the inclusion line. See what's happened to JK Rowlings.
  19. That's a misrepresentation. There are many reasons why one wouldn't be able to own an EV. We've discussed the issues with Condos and Apartment buildings. If you're a Contractor or Sales person that is zipping around town all day, I don't think an EV would be convenient. But the cost-benefit when 95% of your driving is predictable commuting is undeniable.
  20. I don't think anyone has claimed we are. I've conceded the problems that need to be addressed. I would hope that governments are looking to fix it. The big Climate Change fighting obstacle we need to address is Shipping and Aviation. Batteries can work with personal vehicles, but with ships and planes another technology may be required. I think Hydrogen will be the solution there, but first we need to bolster Green Technology. Creating Hydrogen is very Energy intensive. I think we are a decade away. But with technological advancement things move fast. Just look at Smartphone adoption. People go from "Why do I need a Computer in my pocket?" To "I can't live without this thing" in short order.
  21. Well the thread goes the way it goes. People say some pretty ignorant stuff about EV tech. Not you specifically. So that needs to be addressed. But if you deny the future of Western Civilization is Electrification, you're not paying attention. The issues with the Grid and Infrastructure are Real. Also the availability of EVs will make it difficult for widespread adoption in the near future. But as mentioned, the availability of good ICE cars is also an issue due to COVID-induced supply chain issues. I've been clear, EVs aren't for everyone. But they're for a good portion of the population, if you're in the market for a new car. If it's not your preference, fine. But things like range (for most people) and strain on the grid is simply fear-mongering.
  22. This thread is concerned with Governments (Specifically Ontario) making the necessary investments in making an electrification possible. Because it's going to have to happen. All the major economies on Earth are already moving in that direction. China actually being the leader on EV adoption. It's rather pointless to fret about the reality of buying choices of vehicles in 2035. I'm pretty confident in saying that the EV market share will be much more by the turn of the century than it is now. But even now, if you look, Green Vehicles usage is certainly growing.
  23. Then why are you debating what should be a trend in the Car Industry? You clearly don't car much about cars, but feel the need to feverishly debate the direction of the industry. Because it certainly not more Toyota Corollas If most people who like driving nice cars had 20k to burn, they'd buy a much nicer used car. I already highlighted why it's a much better financial proposition in a previous post. Still a very small portion of the Automotive market and not a direct competitor to any modern EV.
  24. I saw the video. It's extraordinarily racist. Basing your view on Black people by a Rasmussen Poll? It's like he wanted to be an Alt-Right Martyr. I wouldn't want to do business with such a person either.
  25. You guys just go to the same Well. Again, a massive fallacy. You need make the consideration that there is almost no regular maintenance for an EV. So you can cut out the $150-$300 or more oil and other fluid changes. Brakes also don't wear down as fast because of regenerative braking. If you're in the market for a NEW car. And can only afford a $20k loan. You're not in the market for EV anyway. In fact you're not in the market for the vast majority of ICE vehicles. You live in an even smaller niche market than the EV market. Automakers don't want to make Compact cars. https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/cars/2020/07/17/discontinued-cars-2020-ford-fiesta-toyota-yaris-gm-chevrolet-sonic/5413585002/ Another big consideration for me getting an EV was the Cheat Code of being able to use Carpool lanes solo, which is law in Ontario and makes commuting much easier.
