Not true. It less protects you from someone sneezing on you. But it protects other people from you. And if everyone wore a mask, it creates a low-grade herd immunity. I don't really like wearing masks, I definitely won't wear one outside. But it a large public area like a grocery store, I certainly will.

Europe, Canada and much of the developed world has seen the downside of the virus. And are re-opening. Well not in parts of the US of A. In Red Sunbelt states the infection rate is climbing and if it continues the hospital systems in these states could be overwhelmed. Florida saw almost 4,000 cases. At the height of the pandemic, Ontario never saw even 1,000 daily cases. That's the scenario that caused shut-downs in the first place. These governors have no appetite for that. The could get ugly for these states very soon.

Since I missed a chance to discuss the Trump rally in the, now locked, thread. I'll contribute here. Unmitigated disaster. Trump walking sullenly from AF1 that night almost made you feel a bit sorry for him. His team totally effed him. The excuse given is that protestors stopped people from coming. How many protestors? Because this is certainly a roadmap for derailing any further Trump Rallies. A million people asked to be there? Even if, say 100,000 people showed up, X-amount of protestors only allowed for a paltry 6,000 people to come into the building. Trump had already threatened protestors that if they were violence there'd be consequences. And Tulsa police only reported 1 arrest. It seems MAGA heads are quite conflict adverse. And this is one of the reddest states there is. You'd think protesting in Michigan, Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania etc etc etc would be much worse. The more likely scenario is that only 6,000 people did show up because it's a Global Pandemic! and even MAGA-heads have more sense that to pack into a crowded arena. But the more hilarious result of this is that Trump's team thought that it was a sell-out. So much so that they erected a useless overflow stage! Why is that? Thanks Tik-Tok!!! https://www.theglobeandmail.com/world/us-politics/article-tiktok-users-say-they-helped-sabotage-trump-rally-with-false/ They'll have to revisit their registration system going forward.

Ever watch Letterkenny? That's what I'd consider stereotypical Canadian.
-
Even so, it's not really a white thing as other Constitutional Monarchies follow the same "values" even thought there racial makeup is much different. The GTA is so multicultural that being around stereotypical Canadians is actually more jarring than being around most ethnic minorities.

Reduced Air Travel is a concern for everyone. The idea that people can do a lot of business travel on a computer. Cite a source that either side wants the border closed for a year.

I would agree if a lethal weapon was taken.
-
And a Tazer isn't a lethal weapon. He was running away, and he had no where to go. The DA has charged him with murder and he's been fired. So he must have done something wrong in the eyes of the law. The DA claims Brooks was kicked. https://fox6now.com/2020/06/18/prosecutor-officer-kicked-rayshard-brooks-after-shooting/

Fine. Not going to happen, but keep dreaming. Trump has been POTUS for 3.5 years and hasn't really taken any jobs from Canada.
-
I don't think he's going to get the Death Penalty, but it's possible. Defending themselves and shooting a guy in his back and kicking him as he's dying are different things.
-
Wow, you really said that. A fraction of Canada's "culture" really revolves around anything British.
-
If you refer to earlier posts I mention Sunbelt states. Those aren't real drivers to keeping the border opened/closed. Lots more manufacturing and agriculture trade than just cars. The US Auto Industry is in trouble. Moving Canadian jobs to US won't really fix that.
-
Because the US has a leader that's lying about the figures. The UK and Brazil are in a pretty bad spot too though. That's a very fringe position. Just hope you realize that.
-
You're conflating wanting to debate something with obsession. Perhaps it's you that's obsessive. Nope, just pointing out that you're more isolationist that him.
-
For someone who posts in a debate forum, you like to try and stiffle debate a lot. Seems contrary to the purpose of a site like this. Even Trump has more sense than to advocate for that. It's Canada that still wants the border closed.

I don't think any Western economy can cope with shutdowns during the Holiday Season. Imagine a Christmas Day where you can't see any family and exchange gifts.
-
Yeah, they have their own Outbreak to deal with. Lot's of people, it's beautiful. Wouldn't want to anyway right now.

US media is pointing out Florida. I love Florida. Would have been going there this month had COVID not happened. Doesn't mean their COVID caseload is spiking when other places, like Ontario, are dropping. BTW, since we talk about population density and how it relates to New York's outbreak. Though Florida has a larger population, it has no municipalities with the population density of the Greater Toronto Area, where a good chunk of the COVID cases came from.
-
Are you quibbling with this figures? https://www.ontario.ca/page/how-ontario-is-responding-covid-19 What does that have to do with COVID cases? Ontario's economy isn't reliant on Tourism.
-
Not true. It may have been in May, but not now. Now I'm rounding here. https://www.ontario.ca/page/how-ontario-is-responding-covid-19 About 1.1 million tests. Testing per million for a population of 15 million would be 73,333. As of today Florida's per million testing is 70,492. https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/ So, at worst it's comparable. At best Florida's is lower. I'm not afraid. (The border is closed) I'm discussing. Through Florida's tourism industry must be taking a beating. This virus really hasn't petered out like some said it would. You really do have to change your behaviour to kill it.
-
There's a thread discussing Ontario's response to COVID. Feel free to comment if you wish. I'm pretty much the only one that contributes. The spikes in certain US states are making news. Ontario has never had 1,000 cases a day, Florida is now getting that regularly.
-
You mean Brazil? A country who's Prez downplayed the virus, like Trump did. I'll randomly get tested if it doesn't involve a swab of the brain. What ever happened to the cheek?
-
I agree, China is a void of information. Thought they're locking down with a few hundred confirmed cases. That's quite extreme. The European situation is exactly the reason North America shutdown. They were the worst hit, by far. I don't know who's saying they weren't. The UK is now the epicentre in Europe.
-
Oh look at that! Must have done it today. I'll admit the confirmed cases figure is quite dubious as we're only getting to a point where everyone can even get tested. The 100,000 figure is also irrelevant as 2/3 of those people have recovered.
-
No, I admit they're behind the US. But the US is the epicentre of the virus. DoFo recently has to ask people to get tested. Not enough people are sick and aren't going to get tested. So he said anyone can get test. . . just for fun. Do you propose testing people at random?
