America under President Trump
Boges replied to betsy's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Yet this is a thread about Trump. I won't deny that the MSM have it out for Trump. Lots of people do. But a lot of the narrative around Trump comes unfiltered through his Twitter Account, Campaign Rallies and public appearances like yesterday's COVID-19 briefing. -

So a better state would be positivity rate. https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/testing/individual-states It's very high in the US at 8.5% Nationally and in the states experiencing a surge it's upwards of 15-20%. More people are getting tested because they have reason to believe they're sick. Hospitalization also reflects that. FTR New York state is currently testing at about 1%. The Province of Ontario frequently test under 0.5%. I'm not quibbling that the death rate has dropped. In the early days of the virus it was very deadly, there were no good treatments. New York pretty much had the highest fatality in the world. But a contributing factor to that death rate was overwhelming of the hospitals. Which is why most places shut their economy down and told people to stay home. They wanted to reduce hospitalization. If the infection rate continues to climb the hospitalization will as well. And so will deaths. And collateral deaths because people with other issues can't be seen in a timely fashion. It's a vicious cycle which most other developed nations have escaped from. Not the US though. -

He said a lot of the same things the Lib MSM has. I suppose you're talking about the Covington kid. And to I assume you will concede that settlements are immediately an admission of guilt that every time 45 settled out of court with an NDA, that meant he was guilty. https://www.cnn.com/2019/11/07/politics/trump-settlement-trump-foundation-new-york/index.html https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/onpolitics/2018/04/10/trump-university-settlement-judge-finalized/502387002/ https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2017/04/trump-campaign-lawsuits-settlements -

Like Chris Wallace on Fox News? -
Note that the virus transmits through water droplets. And masks can prevent that.
-
That's happened because people were told to stay home. Many were forced to stay home because the government mandated their job as unessential. People were even told not to see family and friends. We're just now starting to see most businesses allowed to re-open in Ontario. But even then, when indoors, you have to social distance. Going to the grocery store was an ordeal of long lines. It was rather harrowing actually. I'd rather wear a mask that go back to that reality. What seems clear is that these outbreaks happen indoors. Restaurants, bars, salons, gyms etc. So masks certainly help.
-
That Social Distancing is still required? No one is disputing that. But that doesn't mean that masks aren't helpful. I think one of the thing that's going to save the places that are seeing huge spikes right now is the fact that people are being forced to wear masks.
-
And technical evidence has been provided to contradict your narrative, that you immediately disregard. You're the one being disingenuous. No one is saying Social Distancing should be stopped. But when it's impossible, masks are good too.
-
The truth about what? That you deny the clear evidence that masks are helpful in reducing COVID-19? Welcome to the wrong side of history on this. Even 45 has been dragged kicking and screaming into supporting masks.
-
I agree. JT and the Feds are being political here. Both the City of Toronto and Province agreed with the plan.

The number of Canadians on the team are about as relevant as the number of Americans on the Boston Bruins. The Blue Jays own facilities in the US, they'll find a spot.

China isn't in the G7. I like how you pivot from the argument that the US is the only developed nation with an serious ongoing COVID-19 issue to quibbling whether Brazil or China are developed nations. It's amusing. But, let's say that Brazil is a developed nation. It's not great company to be in. You're also in there with Russia and India. Slow Clap. -

We've done this already. https://www.investopedia.com/updates/top-developing-countries/ Brazil is actually worse than Argentina and Chile in its own Continent. -
That the shutdown has proven is that eating out regularly is an incredible waste of money. It should be a treat. When you can't go out and drink every weekend, you quickly find out that you have lots of money available for other things. As for the alcohol thing in the OP. It's completely unenforceable. If we know one thing about alcoholics, they will find a way to get their fix. There'll be a huge industry in fake licences. And a black market to sell to people who can't get a license.

Death Rate per infection would make the US look good because they have so many infections. A country where the infection rate has significantly dropped but earlier in the outbreak had a lot of deaths would be doing better currently. Italy, Spain, France etc. The US is approaching 4 million infections. So it's crazy that only 140,000 of those resulting in deaths is a good thing. Especially considering the US is the only developed nation that even still has an exponential ongoing outbreak. -

What I'm saying is that California did a thorough shut down and seemed to have beat the thing. Conservative posters on this site proclaimed California as a success story. Not so much now, it appears. Deaths per capita is an effective way of comparing one community to another. The most important stat right now is Hospitalization. And many states are mightily struggling with that right now. Wasn't the interview on Fox News? -

Truman technically was re-elected. Trump has time to turn this around. But it seems he almost doesn't want to win. He consistently denies the reality of the COVID situation and fights with everyone. -
The Blue Jays can't play in Canada. https://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/blue-jays-left-find-2020-home-government-refuses-risk-mlb-plan/ I think this is a bit heavy-handed. They weren't going to play in front of fans anyway. The Rogers Centre has a hotel and you could "quarantine" there. Teams can't enter unless everyone has a negative test. They go from the Private Airport terminal to a bus, to the hotel, and can't leave. I feel bad for the Jays, they had a decent set up here and now they're homeless. But I guess the prospect of having teams flying here from Tampa, Miami, Atlanta etc is an issue.

And we can analyze his prospects based on those things. Look at this fake polling by Fox News. https://www.foxnews.com/politics/fox-news-poll-biden-holds-lead-over-trump-as-coronavirus-concerns-grip-nation -

If one thinks that protests aren't appropriate in the COVID climate, the must then concede that indoor dining, going to the Gym and bars aren't either. -

- And Political Rallies indoors, hoping to get 20,000 people. - Only wearing a mask in a Hospital. ONCE! - Disagreeing with his Public Health Officials. - Muzzling the CDC and Anthony Fauci. -

You don't think "LIBERATE MICHIGAN!" and threatening to withhold funding if schools don't open have their effect. The three states that are suffering most right now are run by Trump acolytes that opened their states too early.
