  1. I signed, because an inquiry could help us do better next time. Hope the inquiry, if it happens, includes people from all positions, not just one. That'd be my only concern with it.
  2. Wouldn't you be a little upset if your parents and grandparents had ruined the property you were to inherit, making it valueless and unlivable? Wouldn't you look at them as the reason why? I don't blame anyone coming after my generation for blaming us - we had the best in the way of material riches, giving little thought to the future, and now the younger generations will be the ones to pay.
  3. You've missed the point. As predicted 100 years ago, greenhouse gasses warm the planet. This is true whether you attribute the greenhouse gases to natural or manmade sources Later, but still decades ago, it was demonstrated that mankind had a significant effect on these gases. Just because specific predictions didn't come true doesn't mean the entire premise is wrong.
  4. Not to mention, scientists have been warning about this for over 100 years. And they've been right about the effect of greenhouse gases created by humans. In the 1860s, physicist John Tyndall recognized Earth's natural greenhouse effect and suggested that slight changes in the atmospheric composition could bring about climatic variations. In 1896, a seminal paper by Swedish scientist Svante Arrhenius first predicted that changes in atmospheric carbon dioxide levels could substantially alter the surface temperature through the greenhouse effect.
  5. The "rest of you" are a minority in Canada. The minority doesn't get to opt out from the rest of society.
  6. I think it's more complicated than good vs. bad. The article brings out important details, such as support being available to people who are marginalized and who seek death as an improvement over their current circumstances. But with help their circumstance could change and they'd decide against MAID. That aspect isn't at play so much with people who are going to die regardless of medical intervention. I have to say this article did make me think about whether I support unfettered right to choose death.
  7. Who's killing the mentally ill? The article is about giving them the opportunity to choose to die, and whether that's really a good idea. Phrasing it as "Trudeau wants to kill them" is dishonest.
  8. That was an interesting article, providing thoughtful comments on MAID, it's ethics, the motives and experiences of those seeking MAID, and the process by which we got here. But of course, simplistic partisanship wouldn't allow for an actual "discussion" of a complex topic, but rather must phrase it as "that hateful Trudeau, look what he's done now" and disallowing any nuance in the resulting "conversation".
  9. Yeah, doesn't he have better things to do? Pretty sure he/we can support the rights and freedoms of LGBTQ+ without appearing on TV. PP should have no trouble getting elected at this rate.
  10. Not to mention floods and fires, and climate change refugees. Canada will be affected and it'll cost a lot of money.
  11. You are the one who posts ridiculous claims about totalitarianism in Canada, about some cabal that is taking over the world by slowly killing it's citizens via this vaccine, who takes unproven claims on VAERS as facts, who uses Twitter and YouTube sources for her claims, who has spent hours posting fear-porn. You've already been proven wrong when you claimed mandates would never be lifted, that mandates were designed to slide us all into totalitarianism. No amnesty for people like you who indulge in lies and conspiracy.
  12. In New York, Hart Island is used for burials of unclaimed bodies and people who cannot afford private burials. In the early part of the pandemic, those burials went from 25 per month to about 25 per day. Not mass burials as in multiple bodies in one hole, but still a significant increase over normal. Fact-checking mass burial claims - Politifact.
  13. It doesn't allow swear words. It says it highlights the offending words, but I didn't see that when I got moderated.
  14. 1. Me, my partner and several colleagues have had boosters and not gotten Covid. Why would your two people outweigh my several people for evidence? 2. The booster takes as long as two weeks to become effective. It wasn't the booster that made them sick, but some contact with the virus before they has the booster. 3. Re: No 1 - anecdotes are neither data nor proof. 4. Congrats on your new status as anti-vaxer.
  15. Well, get off the internet and your ass and go peacefully protest about this government's slide into totalitarianism. Don't block streets and disrupt neighborhoods for weeks on end, and you'll be fine - no consequence from government, although most people will look at you the same as they look at the guy on the street corner trying to save passersby.
  16. Can you imagine China holding an inquiry into the use of the Emergency Act, as Canada is currently doing? I fully expect the government to lose this one. Can you imagine that happening in China even if there was an inquiry? But still, you in your conspiracy world cluelessly bleat about totalitarianism.
  17. So move if you think Canada is so bad. Well as soon as the Canadian government starts locking people into fairgrounds or nailing doors shut or shooting protesters down in the street or imprisoning journalists or shutting off internet access outside it's borders, then maybe you'd have a point. As it is, you just look like an empty-headed dunce.
  18. They ask for that so if you are travelling in near future, your application is fast-tracked in an effort to get you your passport before you're scheduled to leave. Of course they want proof - anyone could say they need it right away. So totalitarian! ?
