Sorry, no link, but I saw on the CNN ticker today that because people in the USA are heavier, they've burned 2.2 billion dollars more fuel this year than last year. I guess that's putting a new price tag on your fat. Someone actually gets paid to figure this stuff out. Also, Bush signs a document today to build more wall between Mexico and USA. That made me ponder the Berlin wall for a few moments. That one was so wrong and this one is so right? They're both meant to do the same thing but one was in the name of communism and tyranny, and the other in the protection of freedom and individual rights. Their physical function however, is the same. Hmmm...

Can we separate Morality from Religion? (Poll)
crazymf replied to Electric Monk's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
The practice stopped a few hundred years after the introduction of christianity...... King MacGlom was standing on the platform and doing his royal duty huffing and puffing away when all the spectators started laughing at him. He was enraged and went into this long winded rant about the value of religious and cultural traditions and the decline of morality when one young turk heckled... oh yea we kin all that ya gob shite...we be laughing at ye cause the mare ya chose is ugly....... HAHA!! -
What military capabilities should Canada add first?
crazymf replied to Figleaf's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Yeah, you got it. The Canadian Foreign Legion. Funny how Muslims pop up in conversation when I mention this. At least we'd have a chance to get a handle on them and impose training and discipline on them rather than merely opening our borders to them and letting them in anyway. Think of military service as a major screening program. I think they'd weed out the chaff from the wheat pretty quickly and thoroughly. -
Can we separate Morality from Religion? (Poll)
crazymf replied to Electric Monk's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
I'm assuming by saying religion you mean faith in a greater deity of some kind? Or do you mean a way of living set out in a common instruction book such as the Bible or Q'uran? I think the two are separate issues. Hard core religious zealots commonly impose their way of life onto others such as the JW's and Mormons, not to mention the radical Muslims. Even my bible thumping regular christian cousins wind up interfering in conversations that inevitably come around to the Bible. Religion is a problem. Faith is not. Morality is a separate issue from religion, depending on how you define religion, IMO. Or maybe morality based on religion merely can go to 'the dark side'. -

All immigrants should have to serve a couple of years at least as a pre-requisite for citizenship. That may instill a sense of Canadian pride in them. -
Well, alright then. I'll get on the phone and get Pat Robertson to take him out!!

When will the west ever realize that these wars will never be over unless you kill them all, and their neighbors, and their dogs. Since that isn't a reasonable solution (hasn't worked so far in Israel), militarism must become a 'sport' of a kind so we cull them on a perpetual basis until they tire or we tire of the game. I do not believe there will be either a defined end or victory in Afghanistan or Iraq.

Don't kid yourself. If she wasn't in the right frame of mind to begin with.. ie happy with herself, then no orgasm would be forthcoming. Really has nothing to do with your tool at all. Sorry. Of course, nothing is easier to fake than an orgasm. OOOOOH, I'm shattered. Oh well, that's sex and politics for you.

I must have found a batch of classy women then. Each and every one I've been with have had no problems reaching orgasm, often. Maybe it's the talent of the stick that counts....

Every 'instant' Canadian from Lebanon has my vote. Especially the ones who complained about the lack of cruise ship status their ride had....

46. I remember the Beatles, live. I remember Vietnam, live. I heard Neil Armstrong say those famous words, live. Of course, live means live on TV. I think it's a great idea to post ages so we know if we're talking to someone who has lived or merely thinks they know everything anyway like my teenaged kids. That's like wrestling with a pig in the mud. After a while you find out the pig likes it.

I don't use although I sampled a bit back in my younger daze. (pun, ) As an employer, I wouldn't knowingly keep any dopeheads around. Speaking from personal experience, I believe use makes a person shiftless, unmotivated and frankly downright lazy. I suppose if you were the new color inventor for a paint manufacturer, dope would be an asset. Otherwise, I don't think it helps productivity in the workplace. I'm for regulating it so the government can impose formal restraints on use such as they have with alcohol. Also, maybe then we could start keeping it away from the kids through controlling the sources. I have been against legalization in the past because of the same reasons stated, but after several months of thought I have changed my mind about it.

Thanks everybody. Can't say as I'm any smarter but maybe I am because I didn't drink for 2 months.....

How do you suspect they are doing that? Are you suggesting that they are using language laws and that union-labor-quality-advocates have nothing to do with protectionism? The thread was started a a question because I don't know all the ways that Quebec doesn't participate with equal bias to the rest of Canada. I think it's obvious that Quebec wants French only and uses it as a way to discriminate not only individuals, but in bigger ways too. All construction trades practice protectionism of it's local members by making work available to them first and then look outwards to other provinces and even other countries as the demand increases. That is not the same IMO as a provincial government wanting to be one out of 10 provinces that is distinct by law.

Arrest Willie Nelson? No Thanks.

What's left to arrest? A smoked out skeleton? -
Charles, Your story is completely backwards. It's union labor who advocates quality and contractors that want to merely make a buck and get out. Don't even try to argue that point because I've lived it. Leafless, There's a website http://www.red-seal.ca/ that clearly outlines the reason and qualifications for tradesmen to gain an interprovincial status. It was optional to write the extra exam in 1982 when I did my ticket, but most guys wrote it anyway. The red seal site mentions nothing of Quebecs unwillingness to participate, but in real life it may be quite different I'm sure. What I am suspecting is that Quebec is somehow perpetuating a protectionist theme instead of trying to integrate more with Canadian programs. From my tiny perch here in Alberta, it's hard to have a positive attitude towards that province. A couple of years ago on a bike trip to the maritimes, we passed through Quebec. The people were plenty nice but with no English road signs on the transcanada highway, it was tough in places. Especially on construction detours. I blame the Quebec government for that.

Hey, I'm back. They tried to kill me at the Red Deer hospital but I fooled them and lived. Went for a fairly straight forward abdominal procedure on June 14th and supposed to be out in 5 days. Well..... intestine leaked and I went septic and they had to do emergency surgery 5 days later and I spent the next 6 weeks recovering from that. I've been out 6 or so weeks but haven't been able to sit at my desk much. It's good to see many of the same posters around here. I also read pretty much everybodies posts but mostly only on topics that tweak my interest. I find myself agreeing with many semi right leaning people and have gotten into many corners with lefties. BD and Miss Trudeau come to mind. I love a great debate but also try not to take things too seriously, for which I am guilty a time or two. You all are my favorites and this is the political site of choice for me. stu

I was watching a TV ad selling some videos or something and it mentioned that Quebecers couldn't use a credit card to purchase. I have an Alberta Electrician ticket with a red seal for interprovincial use but have been told over the years that Quebec won't honor it. Why is that and what other differences are there?

Westerners Losing Heart to Preserve Greatness
crazymf replied to jbg's topic in The Rest of the World
Ehhh.....some people need to give their heads a shake. While the talking is going on, Iran is building bombs or facility to build bombs. When they get bombs they will use them. Downtown TelAviv will be the first target IMO. What happens next depends totally on China and Russia and which side they pick. For now it wouldn't surprise me at all if Israel takes military action on Iran if they see negotiations linger or stall. I'm sure the CIA or some spookier people are in there trying to affect regime change in Iran right now. -
Is it time to throw out multiculturalism
crazymf replied to Leafless's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
One major Canadian value is the ability to talk a subject to death and then have the ability to truly believe that by ignoring it, it will go away. ie The federal government. -
