This has been one of the most entertaining threads I've read for a long time. I might add to it that as a person gets to know another member, the debates can spill over from one topic to the next and one can begin to anticipate the response before it is posted. Sore spots between members also spill over and can easily become inflamed for no apparent reason except a past debate resurfacing. What I'm trying to illustrate is that if you have debated with a member enough in the past, you can get away with the odd liberty of language that you may not say to someone you've not parlayed with before. A sheer grinding of basic values and inability to agree on basic principles warrants the 'ignore' feature. A little humor always helps too...

Stephen Harper Makes a Great Ventriloquist’s Dummy
crazymf replied to Nocrap's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
God bless Canada and America and thank God we're finally on the same political page. Maybe now our two countries can be more productive and cooperative and work towards common goals instead of trying to have the tail wag the dog. It's about time. Iraq is no Vietnam. Only time will tell what it is. -
You win Bub.... ...you know what that means. What does this fellows actions have to do with me directly? Absolutely nothing. I'll admit that. It's just my humble opinion that our society wasn't built by guys like this. What ticks me off is that people in this country don't think he did anything wrong at all. And BD, yes, he's acting like a good citizen, pretending, but that doesn't wipe out the past. Remember Tookie? He was a role model, if only you could conveniently forget that he was a murderous butcher. So, while people of strong character make decisions and fight the battles to protect our society, the rest of us can rest easy at night knowing we are safe and able to argue things like this online, and be retarded. Some of us appreciate the sacrifice the military people make on all our behalves. And on the other side of the coin, cowards like this dude spit in the face of all of us. Shame on you pal. You're the one who has to live with your actions. I hope they make a big shiny example of you.

'Taking our women', meant as a generalization of using our resources and promoting the attitude of shirking ones responsibilities by perpetuating themselves. ie. kids I call these people cowards and you respond by calling the people who did serve honorably 'mindless idiots'. This fellow has a dark past. I'm sure people serving in our own military won't have much use for this 'respectable grandfather' who's been pretending to be a useful citizen either.

Sure. Then in the next election, vote for a government that more closely stands for what you believe in. Deserting is closing the gate WAY after the horse has left the building. Individual decision time has long past at that point. Life is tough sometime. That's what makes heros as well as cowards. This man and many others have failed to stand up like men and tough it out. Just think, Iraqi deserters are coming to Canada as we speak and taking your women, having kids, using resources, and furthuring the cause of cowardice. Our society is not better from this, it's worse. I hope our government starts to notice and sends more of these losers back where they belong to face life as it was dealt to them.
-
Whoops. Jumbled that one. You're right though, he's a deserter, not a dodger. Sorry about that. However, pretty much the same thing to me. Governments are somewhat like families, you don't get to choose them. You're born there. If a government chooses a draft is necessary, then the citizens are obligated to do their duty. Individuals don't have the right to second guess federal decisions of that nature. That's why we elect a government. If a person runs away from federal obligations such as these, don't expect to be able to go back without paying your debt to society. This man is not only a coward, but flipping the bird to all his former countrymen by travelling recreationally and enjoying the benefits of society many a good man have died to protect. Of course Vietnam turned out to be a big waste of time, but that doesn't let this coward out of his obligations.

http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/stor...0312?hub=Canada Ok, it happened almost 40 years ago. SO WHAT! The guy deserted his responsibility to the American military. He's a 'COWARD'. Runs on up to the socialist liberal free country to suck off a free tit and reap benefits that real men have fought and died to uphold. What makes me sick is that somehow even the media seems to think this yellow fellow is having some injustice imposed on him when his former country arrests him for desertion. Apparently, there's thousands of these morally bankrupt people wandering our great land pretending to be fine and decent human beings. What happens if Canada may need them to defend us? Are they just going to cut and run again? Too bad Mr. Abney. You finally got what you deserve. It's a shame there's a 5 year jail limit on that act of cowardice you displayed. And my fellow Canadians, don't feel sorry for yellow scum like this. They want all the good things in life and aren't willing to earn it.

Two wrongs don't make a right... personally I'm starting lean towards the 3 seperate countries model... even if its failed in the past. My point is that the USA stirred the pot, justifiably, and now in the swirl of things, they can sit back and watch it settle back down by itself. If they don't like what becomes of it, stir it again, and again, and again. The USA is holding all the cards because they're already there.

I came from the farm. I still burn my garbage and heat my home and business with coal. I didn't see an option on the poll that says: -to heck with Kyoto. ...so I didn't vote. I'm a greenhouse gas offender and don't give a hoot whether New York floods when the ice cap melts. It's a cesspool anyway.

I think a civil war is a good deal in Iraq right now because you know who's going to get their peepee slapped don't you? That's right, the Sunnis, the leftovers from the Saddamites, the minority, the arseholes of society in Iraq, the one time oppressors. I may be biased a bit, but all the Americans have to do is go hide on base for a while and watch the fireworks go. At the end of it all, the Sunnis will have been put down like the dogs they are and the country can get back on track and work for peace. My 2c opinion.

Canadian Muslims simply un-Canadian?
crazymf replied to Leafless's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Hehe This thread reminds me of a saying we had back in high school. "I don't hate (ethnic minority of your choice) generally, I hate them all individually." I also don't care for threads like this because while I joke about hating, it's only joking. This thread inspires racism to those who may read it and take heart from it. We all came to this country from somewhere else, or your grandparents did, whatever. Being Canadian is being able to get along with differences in religion and beliefs. We as natural Canadians need to literally express peace and goodwill towards all people, always, not just at xmas. If a people start to act out, so what. At least they live in a country where they can. Take the criminals out of the bunch and let the law deal with them. I think things have to get a hell of a lot worse around here before I look down on Muslims more than Quebecers or Ontarians. -
Women are like hurricanes...when they first arrive they're all warm and wet, and when they leave they take the house.

The British had a good idea. Remember Australia? And why not ship criminals off to some 3rd world country for incarceration? We've all heard of 'Mexican' prisons. No one wants to go there do they? I think it would be great for a poor country to have their economy boosted with Canadian prisons. Plus, a strong message would be sent to criminals that they're just not going to be heard of again until they're done their sentence. No complaining about conditions because no one would be listening. Plus there's always a chance you ain't coming back because life certainly wouldn't be a picnic over there. I believe people convicted of crimes shouldn't be part of our society until they are punished. Call that knee jerk if you want, but it makes sense to me. Of course politicians most likely wouldn't endorse that because it strikes a little too close to the bone. They don't want to send themselves over there.

Islam, gays, abortion, womens rights and tolerance
crazymf replied to JerrySeinfeld's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
To me, all religion is mere brainwashing of the masses into believing blindly that there's an afterlife and it's going to be great. Face it folks, nobody can say that and know for sure. There's no proof. Religion is used to ease our minds from worry about the unknown while we're alive. Realistically, when the lights go out, you're just dirt of the earth again. I'm not an atheist, but I am skeptical. Especially when 2 religions cause wars and people believe in different gods etc. Faith is good, religion is bad. People are stupid that way, like sheep. -
It would be cheaper to offshore our prison system. Maybe to Bolivia or Argentina, where the system is away from Canadian public scrutiny. Keep a reasonable survival rate, say 8-9 out of 10 come back. Cheap plus deterrance.

What's going on in Alberta?
crazymf replied to Conservative1's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Uh, I must have missed something. Since when was I an Easterner? I am temporarily located in Toronto for 1 year... I don't think that qualifies someone as an easterner/ontario/quebecer ? We even consider some people who have ever left Alberta and visited relatives in Winnipeg over Christmas to be easterners. Be an easterner. That's better than a dope smoking hippie from BC. Tongue in cheek here, relax! Did I mention that to be an Albertan is to realize you live in the best place possible, in the world? -

crazymf replied to Conservative1's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
The first place you just gotta check out is the the Ukranian Psanka in Vegreville. A 20 foot or so diameter Ukrainian easter egg.. Or the flying saucer landing pad in St Paul. I don't even want to tell you what happens in Vulcan. Alberta rocks!!!!! -
What's going on in Alberta?
crazymf replied to Conservative1's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Well apollo, I gotta wonder if you were truly here. BC is one of the most expensive places to be in Canada. You conveniently forgot to mention the PST that's added to the already inflated price of everything out there. The lower mainland is a hole. Too many people and cowshit stink from too many dairy farms per square acre. The only place I've been that stunk worse was Quebec, from Montreal to New Brunswick on my bike in September 2 years ago. Skunk-cowshit-skunk-cowshit. Every farmer must have been cleaning barns. PHEW!!!! But I agree on one thing. Alberta is very boring. Major boring. You wouldn't like it here. Best to stay home. Of course, if you want to discover what it's truly like here, we'll welcome you like any other displaced easterner. If you don't like it here, then it's not for you. There's one major difference. Ontario and Quebec are in the exact same direction when you point at them from here. They are not different to us. -

This thread is like the energizer bunny. I can't even think of anything left to say on this topic... BD, that link was funny. You're not developing a regular sense of humor are you?? That's good progress.
