  1. So In Cologne, they have an extra 2500 police on hand for Carnival, they've had to illuminate certain areas and close down other areas, spend an extra half million dollars on security and bring in Brits with facial recognition technology. And, the attendance for the event is way down.
  2. So, are you gonna suggest that we allow certain elements of Sharia law? How do you know that the muslims will only follow the good things Sharia Law has to offer? Who is gonna decide what elements of this "good" Sharia law is allowed? BTW - I think we all know that the 1400 year Sunni/Shiite dispute is generally about interpretation of Sharia Law. So, what side do you (or I guess your brother-in-law) side with? I would guess he is a Sunni.
  3. You want to take no accountability for the situation you're in. You blame the gov't for allowing you to over fish, then blame them for allowing fishermen to sell off their licences. My last skipper sold his licence to his Vancouver buyer to pay off his boat. The buyer has the licence (and hundreds of others in various fisheries) and my skipper and his boat are long gone - sheer idiocy! You're not entirely wrong though, in some provinces you have to a resident to own a licence - I'm not sure of the exact details, but provisions are in place to dissuade fishermen from selling off licences the way BC fishers have. The gov't might be guilty of trusting that fishers could handle their own business, but the whole "gov't screwed us over" routine is pure hogwash.
  4. I thought you were concerned that most of the money was going to sources other than the fishermen? Wild Salmon aren't really as big of source of revenue for the average person or the province anymore. Without salmon farms, the world demand for salmon would result in pacific fishermen annihilating the wild salmon stocks in in about 2-3 years. Fish farming may be the only thing keeping wild salmon alive. Do you really think killing wild salmon is a good way to protect the species? I'm pretty sure west coast fishermen have killed many many more fish than a fish farm ever could. P.S - Dragging out the old 8kg of fish to produce 1kg makes no sense. Please update your 11 year old bias crap report.
  5. Honestly, I couldn't care less about most of the wild fish fishermen. If It was up to me, I'd have a complete moratorium on wild fishing. Fish Farms can handle most of the demand and employs quite a few people in BC.
  6. Really? And fishermen don't?
  7. I didn't make a comment, I asked a question.
  8. Could she have got the test privately?
  9. Does anyone object to "Trudeau II"?
  10. I know you don't want to hear, but I think you might be right.
  11. From post #2 were supportive of ghomeshi. What made you think he was a sex offender and not just a sex freak?
  12. 30 years? Makes me wonder if maybe you're one of the old school fishermen who won't accept that it's the fishermens own fault. As is usually the case in all fisheries.
  13. What do mean, you won't make that mistake again? Your initial reaction was that it was a jilted ex, and it seems to me that your intuition was probably right.
  14. No! The defendant isn't doing anything extraordinary, the story just isn't adding up. It's the accuser doing poorly rather than the defence doing well. He may be a seed and a degenerate, but in your heart of hearts could you really believe this woman was abused...and was feeling scared? To me, she just looks like a jilted lover. Trying to contact him at 3AM? What? Is she looking for a booty call?
  15. This case doesn't seem to be going well for the accusers....so far!
  16. Maybe so, but you'd think her first choice would be to get the test at any cost. If an abortion is "plan "A", then I suppose it's for the best.
  17. This case doesn't seem to be going well for the accusers.
  18. Muslim mediators, then Sharia for family law, then Sharia for business law, then food products, challenges to our freedom of religion laws etc etc. Who say's if 2 parties are agreement of Sharia and the punishment is amputation, that the gov't can/will stop it. What is the gov't gonna say? If you can't see the various stages playing out, all over the globe - you're very blinded. I've got nothing to worry about though, I'm a man. And unlike you liberals, I will easily adjust (if need be) to an Islamic state. I worry for some of the women, my daughter and you people who will clearly struggle when the harsh reality that muslims don't share your sensitivities. It won't happen overnight or with sudden impact, It will take 20 years or so to see a dramatic shift.
  19. Are with that, the door opens.
  20. Personal fishing experience....and knowing several fishermen. So, answer again, who owns the licenses and why?
  21. No, just an irony that this dude who has no respect whatsoever for women, liberals, feminists...whatever (except prostitutes) and a guy who I fought with many times on the issue of muslims (he loved the idea of a muslim world, whereas i was still somewhat liberal at the time and believed it would be detrimental to equality), might actually get what he wants mainly because of liberals, feminists and progressives. He always said the if he ever married, it would be an asian (right out of asia, but not "western" asian) or a muslim chick.
  22. Fishermen overfished for years and stocks dwindled. They were offered too much money for their licences (from generally chinese business men), they took the quick payout because the new owners would give them cash upfront and also allow them to fish the quota. Problem is; as more and more licences were bought up, the new owners now controlled the market and how much the fishermen would pay to use said quota and also controlled just who they could sell the product to - generally, it was right back to the owner - who incidentally is also the broker. How nice for the chinese business man. Fishermen insisted, against better judgement that the government allow this to happen. If you're fishing 9$lb. product for $1 or $2 dollars, you can blame the last generation of fishermen.
  23. I'm what one might call "indifferent". I don't think there is anything wrong with it, and I don't think there is anything special about it either. Some of you people are actually impressed with how our PM is interacting with the media. I suppose if you're in the media, it works well for ratings, but what did any of us gain - I mean really gain? What did we learn? Nothing! A bunch of canned answers - at best! At worst, we saw a leader who is somewhat unsure of how to proceed forward. Did I gain more respect or faith in him? No! Did I lose respect? Also No! Nothing happened, nothing was gained or learned. Putin is out and about in the press a lot, Obama goes on talk shows and spends a lot of time golfing and interjects himself into issues that he should be involving himself in, Merkel is out there more than most leaders...and Harper, like most world leaders stayed a little farther back from the public. What does it have to do with their abilities to govern? Sweet FA! If you think being more accessible to press, makes a better leader, then you're simply being manipulated by the media. Some politicians believe that the government should be seen and not heard, some think that they need to be on all the time and be parenting over the people. Do we feel better seeing Obama laugh it up on TV just hours after a person was beheaded by ISIL? Do we need to see Trudeau stutter his way through the most basic of questions? Do we feel better or worse as a country seeing him take advice from celebrities? I don't care whether we ever see him, or if he's on the stage of "The View" doing the Tennessee shim sham with Barack and Joy. I just want Trudeau to do what so many people here think he can do. So, yeah, as far as his approach - Indifferent!
  24. Who are the quota holders and why aren't the fishermen owning the quotas?
  25. OK, I guess somehow you missed the point - don't know how, but you did. So, The show was 1 hour (60 minutes), I have suggested that a 2 hour (120 minutes) show might have given us better information. That's all! I have no idea why that's not clear or what reason you have to argue.
