America under President Trump
OftenWrong replied to betsy's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
I think it's inherently obvious that is not a pejorative. You seem to be looking for reasons to get offended. If that's all you've got, then absolutely nothing is wrong there. No need for me to point out whatever it is you want. Tell you what fella, since I don't seem to get how this offends you, I invite you to elaborate why you find this offensive. I don't get what you're saying, but maybe you have a point. Let's hear it. The larger issue to me is that this media "frenzy" is actually empowering the administration. If people think that's all there is to a presidency, that what we see and hear in the news is all there is, they are being foolish. We have people talking all day about what amounts to tabloid trash, and they don't even know what is being done in the real world because it is done behind the scenes. And I say if they really knew, they'd have some important issues to address and speak out about, to protect what is important to their cause. And that means your cause, fella. I hope you are not offended by this. -
- Trump is in fact succeeding with many points on his agenda, especially de-regulation and taxes. The media distraction is part of the game here, whether intentional or not it keeps the news focused on nonsense, not issues that could raise serious opposition. - As far as I understand, impeachment does not automatically lead to "dismissal". Bill Clinton was impeached. - Charisma may have gotten Trump the presidency where Pence would fail, but the agenda does not change either way. "The song remains the same".

What pejorative? If it was, it was not personal, not directed at you and not even intentional. Point it out please. -

Hey, if you want to keep up with the BS and not discuss matters that are worthwhile, and throw out half-veiled pejoratives, if that's what makes your day, fill your boots. -

Except it wasn't directed at "lefties". And it isn't even my idea, it is part of the dialogue taking place among the more moderate left and right, among the people who are trying to have an intelligent dialogue about real problems both political and otherwise. We need to read, and reply with responsibility, without need for ad hominem pejoratives. Remember that one? -

You failed to address the larger point I made about media distraction and too much talk about irrelevant things. I did mention that each party's base will not be swayed, but swing voters use their intelligence to gauge issues one by one. That's more important, I think, yet you ignore it and fell for the easy bait. By all means, enjoy the junk food. -

I cannot agree. This kind of guy will not calm down and negotiate. It's already been tried for decades, and here is the result. No amount of pandering or conciliatory Obama style apologetics will succeed. And I knew you would mention Trump a being the problem. Trump walked into the job and the problem already existed. Sitting around talking or using sanctions doesn't do anything. Trumps approach to dealing with a bully is to be an even bigger bully. Just pray that does not create the situation where Kim decides to launch the attack. -

NK buildup has been steady and persistent fr decades, while world leaders did nothing of substance. Obviously that approach did not work as we have the worst case scenario in NK today- a complete madman in charge, the descendant of other madmen. If news outlets are right he is a psychopath. The deterrent strategy of mutually assured destruction might not hold sway with this kind of guy, as committing suicide for a cause might be justified in his deranged mind. -

No they are busy watching SNL, and they think it's real. Nice easy media distraction that keeps liberals talking about useless things, time wasters. They'd rather spend the evening mocking a photo of his hair or a handshake, which keeps them distracted from discussing anything of substance. They actually believe that the POTUS spends all his time playing golf and watching cable TV. The media distraction is so compelling they have no idea what is really going on. It is to the detriment of liberal's political future in a significant way: While distracted by foolishness the Dems are not talking about important political issues of today, not preparing a sound political strategy for tomorrow. Given the political demographic of the day we can assure ourselves that the "base" supporters on either side will not be swayed, either way. It is only the more moderate swing voters, who gauge their votes based on today's issues that make the final decision, and they will not be swayed by such nonsense. These are intelligent voters looking for substance and solutions, not SNL skits. -

Suggest, rather than telling people to leave the forum you omit that part. You were doing ok up until then, but I take issue with this statement. -

Could be lots of reasons why. Confusion. Rebellion, without understanding. She's your modern day punk rocker chick with a pin in her face. Or it could be because of widespread emasculation of white European males. -

One cannot stand on one leg for very long, let alone expect to achieve mobility. What we need these days but shall not have is more people trying to reach across the divide, tone down the rhetoric and create common ground, lest we rend our own selves to pieces. I don't see many folks willing to do that, left or right. Moderation is fleeting... today we see even moderators quit their jobs to join in the fracas, becoming radicalized. -

I am neither willing nor unwilling to give up on whatever you're saying. It makes no difference either way if I did. There is no one else to turn to, no saviour will arise from this world to make things right. This game shall continue, regardless how much you or I disagree with it in principle. Just because I understand the depth of corruption that is inherently part of mankind does not mean I approve it. Suggest you keep working on the 'responsibility for reading' part a bit more at your end fella, since you enjoy extrapolating whatever someone says to the point of absurdity. That is not good debate however. -
The same was said of the Right Honourable Paul Martin. While Martin's record as finance minister was lauded in business and financial circles, there were undeniable costs. This was probably most noticeable in health care, as major reductions in federal funding to the provinces meant significant cuts in service delivery. Martin's tactics, including those of using contributor's funds from RCMP, Military and Civil Service pension plans and Employment Insurance, created further controversy.

Enjoy what exactly? The perception of a serious problem is divided sharply along partisan lines. That kind of alienation is the problem we should not be enjoying. As to president Trump, seems he is doing quite well in his country. 5 poll numbers that show Republicans are turning against the GOP, but not Trump September 28, 2017 The latest CNN poll showed his approval rating among Republicans at a robust 85% -- with six in 10 Republicans saying they "strongly" approve of his job performance so far. -

I said it's possible that disinformation is purposely being leaked through media outlets, and I would not limit that to just NBC. I gave examples earlier as to how and why this happens. That's the way it goes in the game of global domination, has been that way for centuries. That's how empires are built. I'm sure you have been around long enough to know that we are continually being fed lies, both from our own leaders and others, and you have said so yourself. We got it coming for the things we've done, we deserve more punishment, you hate Canada/ America/ the west. etc -

Note that I never committed to the idea that they knowingly do so. They might, or might not. How would I know. We are easily duped especially in a climate of extreme hysteria, especially if you don't know history or the whole story, plus the urge to compete with other media outlets to be the first to break important news, the competition, the desire to make profit through increased viewership, these are their primary motivators. Responsible journalism is becoming a thing of the past. Trumps statement on this is more bluster, but what I said is I understand the problem. -

I'm not up on all the details but it's fact that both parties agree Obamacare or whatever is in serious jeopardy and needs to be reformed. Trump is not able to get agreement on the reforms for a number of reasons. Trump threatened to cancel the whole deal as he tends to use threats and bluster. What we have seen so far is his threats get a rise out of people, but seem to be mainly bluster as he then settles on a solution not as extreme as was first implied. Nothing new in that technique in the political world either. A wise man should be aware, and not fall for it. -

To be clear, I meant: Spreading lies which foment national discord can become a serious problem leading to security issues. If communists were to flood the media with disinformation, and universities/ students buy into it wholesale and cause riots, it should be stopped. This form of subversion using media is commonly employed by superpowers and is nothing new. It's not ridiculous to believe that enemies of the US would use Trump, Clinton, anybody they deem useful to create discord and ultimately bring harm to the USA.
