  1. Yes, every single scientist, citizen, journalist, researcher that supports climate change has a childish world view and of course all have the label of 'environmentalist'. That makes a lot of sense.
  2. And so the rest of the world should follow the Europeans example? And you don't know that yet. Not after this one.
  3. Yes, I would like to hear solutions from Derek.
  4. That's a pretty harsh attack against folks who disagree with Israel's slaughter of innocent Palestinian civilians. (to borrow your phrase)
  5. I am quite sure the families of these victims of domestic gun violence are lobbying for better mental health issues as well as better gun control laws. Not sure why you would have an issue with that.
  6. Well, of course these are all issues to consider. I don't have an answer. But obviously, further sanctions deserve more analysis.
  7. Well, if you were to ask the families of the victims of gun massacres, they don't believe it's time to throw in the towel and give up because there is 'no political appetite'. Never say never.
  8. My best guess is that most likely no one read the article by Naomi Klein so I will take the initiative and post this following excerpt from her article: Most of all, however, we need to go after the profits of the corporations most responsible for getting us into this mess. The top five oil companies made $900 billion in profits in the past decade; ExxonMobil alone can clear $10 billion in profits in a single quarter. For years, these companies have pledged to use their profits to invest in a shift to renewable energy (BP’s “Beyond Petroleum” rebranding being the highest-profile example). But according to a study by the Center for American Progress, just 4 percent of the big five’s $100 billion in combined 2008 profits went to “renewable and alternative energy ventures.” Instead, they continue to pour their profits into shareholder pockets, outrageous executive pay and new technologies designed to extract even dirtier and more dangerous fossil fuels. Plenty of money has also gone to paying lobbyists to beat back every piece of climate legislation that has reared its head, and to fund the denier movement gathered at the Marriott Hotel. Isn't it time for these big oil companies to pay back to society with their billions in profits and work towards reducing fossil burning fuels.
  9. More sanctions need to be implemented and sanctions that make a difference.
  10. They didn't have these weapons in that region is my understanding.
  11. Well, I think it matters when it comes to the Giffords, the kindergarten children that were slaughtered or any other victims of domestic gun violence. Their families are fighting vigorously to bring changes to the gun control laws in the U.S. There is a big difference between terrorists and domestic killers with guns. The end result is the same of course.
  12. My question is, 'what does the u.s. do next'? Could this have been prevented by the U.S. taking a stronger position against Putin.
  13. There are plenty of observations done on the available evidence by security analysts from the U.S., Germany, the U.K. etc to come to the most plausible agreement that this plane was taken down by rebels supplied with missiles from the Russians. What makes this all the more tragic are the bodies that remain there with no one seeming to be in charge. I pity the families of these victims.
  14. Not according to our beloved Harper; “The indiscriminate rocket attacks from Gaza on Israel are terrorist acts, for which there is no justification,” Harper said in a statement issued Sunday. “It is evident that Hamas is deliberately using human shields to further terror in the region.” Harper also called on other world leaders to rally behind Israel as it tries to prevent rockets being fired from Gaza into its territory. Silence, he suggested, would only embolden Israel’s attackers. “Failure by the international community to condemn these reprehensible actions would encourage these terrorists to continue their appalling actions,” Harper said. “Canada calls on its allies and partners to recognize that these terrorist acts are unacceptable and that solidarity with Israel is the best way of stopping the conflict.” You see, Harper and company fully support Israel and it's attacks.
  15. As much as I am concerned with children being killed, do we need another thread?
  16. I agree that most parents would not leave their 9 year old alone in a park for hours without access to a home with parents/grandparents/other adults available. It is a sad state of affairs to judge this woman not understanding the circumstances.
  17. It's just so fuc'in boring for most of us.
  18. Well, it may be 'too much fun' for some of you. carry on.
  19. Right and I will leave you guys to it!
  20. exactly. Let's move on to more intelligent conversations.
