  1. Can you give me a cite as to how 'not too many women are willing to sacrifice'. I don't believe this for a second. Show me proof. So your boss is horny, big deal. That happens in every profession. Not sure how that example relates to anything, except you work for a stupid company.
  2. They weren't expected because they were working probably in an administrative capacity. I'm not talking about those women. I'm talking about professional women who go on mat leave and who should be expected to return within the same earnings and promotional capacity as any other professional man working in the same position.
  3. I don't believe I was suggesting anything of the sort.
  4. Well, of course they won't get that 4% raise while they were off having a baby. I get that. I'm not that unrealistic, but other than that, women on maternity leave should not be restricted in any way towards future promotions etc.
  5. What disturbs me most about this story, is where the other 7 million went? How are they managing the money? Are they investing it in their community, for addiction services, education programs. I suppose that we will not see those numbers but why not? We will soon find out about other FN communities. Here in BC alone only 15 of the 205 B.C. bands had their information posted. More are expected in the days and weeks to come, but even this sample reveals some very interesting information. Here are some more stats that are troublesome: The Tk'emlups band paid its chief, Shane Gottfriedson, $92,352 last year. Because that salary is tax-free, it's the equivalent of making $128,000 off-reserve -- far more than the mayor of nearby Kamloops, who will make 85,754 next year. Gottfriedson leads a community of 1,058, half of whom live off-reserve; the mayor of Kamloops governs a city of 86,000. Tk'emlúps also paid six councillors salaries ranging from $79,840 to $84,580 tax-free; far more than the $24,811 Kamloops city councillors make. Jason Louie, chief of the 235-member Lower Kooteny band, made $60,000 tax-free last year, the equivalent of $76,500 off-reserve. Creston Mayor Ron Toyota made $23,632 for governing more than 5,000. Snuneymuxw FN Chief Doug White made $108,022 last year, the equivalent of roughly $155,000 if the salary were taxed. He governed a community of 1,716 -- 1,014 of whom live off reserve. Nanaimo Mayor John Ruttan made 84,370, leading almost 85,000. Let's hope this accountability and transparency will benefit the FN reservations and put more money towards where it is needed most.
  6. Having a child keeps our society growing! We have a responsibility to do so. This is why we have maternity leave. Do you get it?
  7. What does my every single post convey?
  8. Why do I have to keep responding to your posts regarding women. Do you feel done by with women. Are we trampling on your human rights? Tell me how that is?
  9. Um, I'm pretty sure I didn't call men monsters and how do you know I like sushi and wine! Very perceptive!
  10. It has nothing to do with Hamas quite frankly. It has to do with feeling humanitarian and trying to provide support for the innocent palestenian families being massacred.
  11. This post isn't about Syria.
  12. Your response is so ridiculous and has no logic or thought to it at all. It's a man throwing out bs towards women. You must somehow feel threatened by women or by women wanting to attain equal rights. First of all, when a woman takes leave to have a baby, this should in no way, be detrimental to her career or her salary. Not sure why you would indicate this is harmful to her potential earnings. A woman takes a year off to have a baby. Does that in anyway impact on her job performance? Does it negate her education level, her experience she has attained so far? There is no reason a woman can't return to work in the same earnings range as her male counterpart who did not have to take maternity leave because his wife did so. Someone has to have the babies but let's not penalize them in their job earnings for gods sake! Patriarchy does exist in NA. You only need to look at the households of a lot of reglions, not just mormons. And of course, have a look at the conservative, white male religious folks. They are alive and thriving, even here in Canada. Gender specific scholarships should absolutely be available. This is to encourage women to stay in the sciences, the maths, technology. Otherwise, we end up having a skills shortage in these fields. I have worked in the IT industry for over 2 decades. For the most part, it is 60/40 for men but it seems to be leaning more towards 70/30 as the years go by. I'm not sure why but I don't think it's because it is 'boring' as someone's little sister said. It is more than that. Girls are not being encouraged to stay in these fields and someone's sister does not represent the general population of girls. There are just as many women as men working themselves into an early grave. If you look at the stats, women have pretty much caught up with men when it comes to heart disease. Especially when you consider the single parent households, of which the majority are led by women.
  13. It is a common phrase spoken disrespectfully to many members here.
  14. God, I love saying that. the number of times it has been said to me!
  15. That happened a long time ago Bonam.
  16. This sounds so blah blah blah blah . We have heard all this before. Can we come up with a better resolution.
  17. The fact of the matter is, wars are managed by men. If wars were managed by women, we would have an entirely different result.
  18. I assure you, i was not making light of men in war. I was specifically speaking to women caring for their children in times of war. It had nothing to do with men until men brought it up.
  19. You are not serious of course. You are baiting women.
  20. I have no idea what you are talking about. I am a regular gal, I could be your gf, your wife, your colleague. your lover. You perhaps have no idea what you are talking about.
  21. I was speaking reality in times of war. Surely you don't think I am speaking against men. I had a dad (who fought in ww II) have a son and a lover. "Misandry can be manifested in numerous ways including sexual discrimination, denigration of men, violence against men, and sexual objectification of men" I have no idea how you can jump from my signature to this hatred towards men (I do like men). It is mind boggling to me but perhaps gives a glimpse into the minds of some of the male members here at this forum.
  22. I am disappointed with Christie Clarke. And I was one of her greatest supporters.
  23. I don't quite agree with that statement. I would rather see that token compensation put towards the education system instead of buying parents support.
