Do you have any comprehension of the tourism industry that BC has? An oil spill would wipe out the industry overnight!!!!

I am simply being realistic. I understand that oil companies have a stranglehold on our economy and on our governments. It is quite obvious that transporting toxic bitumen throughout the bc coastline is detrimental to our environment and very risky. The more precautions we have, the better, but of course, we will never have 100% riskfree. Therein lies the concern! And it does not matter what you say. There are no 100% precautions, whatsoever.

And as I have stated previously, for most of the population of Canada, we need to get out of the way and let the activists take care of the job that we are not willing to picket for.

It is inevitable. As I say, the majority of BC'ers don't want to take that chance.

There are no proper precautions. An oil spill is inevitable. BC is not willing to take that risk.

This risk is not acceptable in BC. This is what the Harper government doesn't quite get.

yes, of course. volume, for sure. It scares me to death the barrels they are talking about. I think I heard that the daily amount being transported equals the amount leaked in the alaska valdez oil spill.

If you were to do a little more research, you would see that that the west coast does not have the capability to handle the volume being proposed.

It makes sense to go east. We have the infrastructure, the oil spill plans etc. We have nothing to handle the capacity shipping bitumen on the west coast.

Well, you may be right on that. Let's hope those requirements won't be met, however, many of those requirements are easy to fulfill. 209 quickly dwindles down. I haven't read through the 209 requirements but my understanding is that many, many of them are miniscule.

Nothing will get done to protect the west coast. It's all about money

We can come up with many facts against the pipeline, from the increase in tankers on a daily basis, to the size of the tankers, to the volume being shipped. Unless folks outside of BC understand our gravest concerns for this increase in volume that is being proposed, there is not much more we can do to prevent it. I am quite frankly tired of protecting our interests against interests outside of BC. In the end, the pipeline will be forced through our province, the tankers will ply their trade throughout our coastline. End of story.
