  1. This is one of those issues that I am very torn over. I have waffled back and forth during this whole ordeal for the family. Now that the child has died, and hindsight is 20/20, I would have to say that I think the parents were wrong in not giving their daughter chemo treatment. This child has lost the opportunity to pursue a career, marry and raise a family, retire, spend time with grandchildren. And all this because they didn't want the child to endure the harmful and painful effects of chemo treatment. Earlier in this thread, I assumed this child was cancer free or 'in remission'. I now believe the parents were in denial or were not being honest with her situation. I have to believe the doctors when they say that she could not possibly have survived without chemo treatment and for her to be denied this treatment at such as young age and to have left it up to the parents decision is shameful. Let's consider that we use force feeding for prisoners when they undertake a starvation program. Why can we not force a child to undergo treatment that may ultimately save their lives (albeit with some painful days). As I say, this is a difficult situation, but when it comes to children.. they just don't know what is good for them.
  2. Where is the outcry in Canada when we have every six days a woman in Canada is killed by her intimate partner. As of 2010, there were 582 known cases of missing or murdered Aboriginal women in Canada.6 Both Amnesty International and the United Nations have called upon the Canadian government to take action on this issue, without success.7,8 According to the Native Women’s Association of Canada, “if this figure were applied proportionately to the rest of the female population there would be over 18,000 missing Canadian women and girls More than one in ten Canadian women say they have been stalked by someone in a way that made them fear for their life. Canada doesn't need to worry about muslim terrorists, we need to worry about Canadian men assaulting and killing Canadian women. Where is the outcry! This isn't me on a personal agenda. This is me comparing outrage towards Muslims in Canada and men in Canada killing spouses.
  3. Good god, and I said it's easy to judge history in the context of the times.
  4. Well, that may be true, but it doesn't mean we ignore them and only focus on the heaps of accolades.
  5. Right, let's keep this in perspective.
  6. I wasn't speaking to his drinking. I was speaking to his policies on the natives and the chinese. These are very much a part of his legacy. I really couldn't care how much he drank.
  7. How do we get new posters on this forum? And I do mean women. I get tired of listening to men respond on behalf of women. This forum seems to heavily lean towards men. There is a reason there are more male members than female.
  8. This is certainly your opinion and your belief that no laws were broken. Perhaps we should leave it up to the investigation to determine this. Do you really think there was 'no harm intended'? Seriously? The scary thing is that these students could very well be out on their own with their own dental practices. And you are probably right, no one will be punished for this.
  9. This is not the point. We need to examine our past political leaders and their policies without judgement.
  10. I don't see that at all. What I see is an honest examination of our political leaders. Every political leader has weaknesses and strengths. There is no harm in examining both. It educates us to make intelligent decisions for our generation and future generations. We need to get past this right vs left and examine policies that work for the good of our country.
  11. Why are folks getting up in arms when we examine his entire legacy, both the good and the bad? It happens to all political leaders. Why is there such a fuss?
  12. The folks who started heaping accolades on him.
  13. Any media that does not reprint images of Mohammed is not displaying cowardice. Isn't this about 'freedom of speech'. Whether their decision is based on the bottom line or personal beliefs, it is still all about 'freedom of speech and choice'. Many comedians choose to not go after religion based on their own personal values and morals. Should we accuse comedians of being cowards because they do not attack Mohammed? And yet, many comedians are being targeted for being cowards for not tackling this subject.
  14. I was under the impression that anyone could respond to a post, doesn't matter who it is directed to?
  15. Actually plenty of people focus on the foibles of Pierre Trudeau. You just did! It happens all the time.
  16. This is really about examining his legacy, both the positive and the negative.
  17. I am completely falling over myself with laughter listening to Argus' expertise on women and what they want. I honestly don't know if Argus really believes what he posts or is simply a troll. Having said that, I can picture a caricature of Argus and I would like to include this caricature in a screenplay. I know this is major thread drift from the original topic but I would like to provide my input from a female point of view as to what women look for in a man. I'm not going to bother quoting quotes from Argus' posts because there would just be too many. I have many female friends, I read literature written by women for women (which I suspect Argus does not read) so here are the characteristics we look for in men: they do not have to be jocks they can be nerds we don't care what they do for a living they can be any of the above as long as: they can financially support a family they are financially stable (not a lot of debt) they are good in bed (this could be #1) they are intelligent ( usually intelligence and being good in bed go hand in hand) they make us laugh we have common interests That is pretty much it in a nutshell. And btw, women who have multiple sex partners are no longer considered sluts.
  18. And JT kissed a bride on the cheeks. So what?
  19. While praising him, let's also examine his negative policies.
  20. It's not difficult at all to examine one's legacy in the context of the times.
  21. In Argus' world, there are only his personal polls in his mind.
