"Canada is the greatest nation in this country." -former Toronto mayor Allan Lamport Happy Canada Day. -CES

Charles Anthony, Congratulations on your appointment. I know you'll do a great job. If there is anything I can do to help you make your job easier.....like giving you a list of people that I think should be banned forever and sent to the northern tundra regions of the country, just let me know. OK, maybe the sending to the northern tundra isn't in your mandate, but you can still ban them. -CES

Here we have a thread about Personal and generalized attacks, and, I wonder why some people think it's ok to generalize about other people here and in other threads. I have seen some people here, believe that the former government running Canada, the ones who used taxpayer money for their party benefit, and the same individuals who think that their environment minister did wonderful things for the environment by doing nothing, should be back in power running the country. Can you believe some people?

Should global warming result in global cooling

Three Quarters Believe Global Warming A 'Natural Occurrence' Maybe the scientists have to change strategy and go with some super(it will happen tomorrow)catastrophic preditions to get people to believe. -
No quick fix for equalization between provinces.

I live quite comfortably, thank you very much. And I probably type a lot faster than you. Minimum pay for a feature film script in Canada is $47,000. If it is based upon my treatment, another $21,000. If it is based on someone else's treatment, $31,000. If I do a re-write on my own material, $24,000. If I do a polish on my own material, $7,000. If I do a third draft, $12,000. And that is just the minimums. Minimums for the U.S. are a lot higher. There is no rule that you can't earn higher. And the beauty of it (or sad part if you like) is that the writer often gets paid even if the whole project gets shelved. I do other work as well and that pays roughly $60 a hour. I'm certainly not a lawyer who earns $500 an hour or anything like that. At any rate, I don't think anyone is going to pay me the minimum for writing here. jdobbin, We maybe on the opposite side of the political spectrum(and probably always will be),but I have to say(with sincerity) I think your ability to make a living out of doing something as creative as writing screen plays is absolutely wonderful. We all wish we could do something "creative" with our lives, congratulations on being able to do just that. As life goes on and we get preoccupied with earning a living, a lot of us put our potential creativeness aside and plod along in earning a living doing something else... just to pay the bills. I probably have a hundred screen plays I would want to write....in my head,a thousand movies.... I could see filmed in my brain, and an equal number of songs that should be composed at the tip of my tounge. It'll never happen for me,but I'm glad someone has the ability to get it done. Good for you. Now back to the forum.....can you believe those Liberals? -CES

I do. But political parties couldn't afford my Writers Guild minimum rate. It appears your full time job must be very lucrative in order to allow you all this time to post here on the forum. Or is the Writer's Guild minimum wage as high as some political party's advertising agency fees?

Will there be a Fall 2007 election?
Canuck E Stan replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
That's why I think a late November election would keep this government around even longer. The issue? Most likely the forcing of Kyoto deadlines on the government by the opposition. This is one issue Harper says is impossible to achieve, and has already asked Dion to present the Liberal plan(for the good of the nation). In order to meet that deadline, Dion and the opposition have better be ready to face the music from the voters if it means some kind of financial hardship by Canadians to achieve it. If the Liberals are going to force the hand, they better tell everyone how it can be done without economic hardship to the country. They have had many years to achieve it,and didn't. They better tell Canadians how it can be done in even less time, especially when they didn't do it during their majority government. Election...late November 2007. -
It would be nice if you did put ALL political polls here. Unfortunately, like a true partisan editor, you pick and choice the ones you want.

Looks more like a poll that belongs under the Provincial Politics banner.

And You? Don't you get paid for words you write?

Cdn attitudes toward the opposition parties
Canuck E Stan replied to Canuck E Stan's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
So, 67 + 45 + 22 = 134% ?? I guess that means the Conservatives are at negative 34%?? No kidding. What the hell? Hey geoffrey! You're the accountant. You tell us how this government math works:) -

If the Liberals only got half of what the NDP received, the numbers don't add up. Where did you get these numbers from? Sorry I neglected to link. Toronto Star -
Summertime Fun! Harper or Dion?
Canuck E Stan replied to Canuck E Stan's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Very true. We should take a poll to decide which is the most frivolous poll... Hands down winner? I swear nothing beats a poll developed by Pollster Figleaf. -
Tee off with Harper, gallery hop with Dion: poll picks summer preferences These polls are getting more frivolous everyday. Were the pollsters over staffed when there wasn't an election called this Spring? What next? Which hand does the party leader wipe with?

Cdn attitudes toward the opposition parties
Canuck E Stan replied to Canuck E Stan's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
As much as you may like to have the Tories in opposition, not everyone can be in opposition. Logic says a poll that asks a question about opposition party attitudes wouldn't include the governing party. I would think with 67% of the people in Quebec saying they would not vote for the Liberals, that a question should have asked as to where the Bloc attitude fits in. -
Cdn attitudes toward the opposition parties

Amazing, the NDP are only 4% behind the official opposition. With a margin of error of +/- 3% 19 times out of 20 this is real close. For top environmental party, first choice was the Green party, followed by the NDP, then the Liberals at 22 per cent, half of what the NDP received. Like I said, this is going to be an interesting summer for all the parties. -
I'm surprised our usual poll pundits haven't posted this poll story on Dion and the Liberals. Looks like people think Layton would be a better PM than Dion. And the Liberals touting themselves as "Environmentalist" didn't fool those polled. Liberals see assets fade in new poll Going to be an interesting summer for all the parties.

Should Canada have a universal drug plan?

Thanks to the CMA chief,Good ole Taliban Jack's medical history has resurfaced along with his buddy Buzz. CMA chief slams hypocrisy on private care Is this part of the Politician's hypocrites Oath? -
No they are not, and that is what keeps this country below what it could be. Plenty of professional accreditations are not recognized but should be. Quite right. I know a young woman who got her medical degree in Dublin and practiced for 5 years in CHicago. She would have put her shingle in toronto but her degree was not recognised here. ....she hated Chicago and the violence she saw everynight in the ER that she has since moved to Cork where she delivers babies ....... I too know a person witha medical degree from Dublin. He hangs his shingle in Vancouver without any problem and has for 20 years. I think maybe you're not getting her whole story.....

Conservative Party Sponsors Race Car
Canuck E Stan replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You might be involved in marketing but, if I was in marketing and a Liberal,(too bad there's no $$ for this kind of stuff)I would think this would be a great opportunity for promotion. Think what play the media would give to the race if the Liberals were smart enough to have a car too. The air play as to who has the fastest car on the circuit(and it wouldn't even matter if you came first) the Cons or the Libs. It would be like watching a Russia/Canada game, create a lot of excitement and interest for the voters. Sponsoring a car is different than the same old, same old. The Liberals should also join the race....around the track, they might even win. -
Atlantic Accord - Who will stand up for Ontario?
Canuck E Stan replied to Keepitsimple's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Ontario will have to make some choices in the next election and the Liberal MP's will have to tell Ontarians how their party really stands on this issue. Look for a Conservative majority in the next election. "Hands in your pocket" is the easiest way to make a voter decide which way to vote. -
Do you ever read what you write? The NDP also ran a Tamil in that election.
