  1. She would never do that. if the party had any brains they would move into damage control now and ask Trudeau to step aside Kudos to Philpott for showing integrity...who is next

  2. It is very telling that the ones giving the super feminist the boot to the family jewels are all women. First it was Leona Alleslev, then JWR and now Jane Phillpot.

  3. Holy crap... just promoted to head of Treasury Board to replace Scott Brison... "It grieves me to resign from a portfolio where I was at work to deliver an important mandate. I must abide by my core values, my ethical responsibilities, constitutional obligations. There can be a cost to acting on one’s principles, but there is a bigger cost to abandoning them."

  6. Anything to do with administering criminal law is not about being a "team player", it is about applying the law. SNC in any country without the LPC and PQ would have been locked up and had the key thrown away decades ago. She did exactly what she was entitled and responsible to do: examine the evidence and proceed accordingly...i.e. NOT to interfere with the decision that the prosecutor had arrived at after doing the same.

  7. He says he made a stupid mistake, NO he made a huge criminal mistake, he joined one of the worst terrorist groups in the world, he at the very least knew of the terrible crimes they committed, the UN is still uncovering mass graves containing 1000's of bodies.....did he take part in all of that, perhaps not, but he knew of all this crimes and yet still took part....the only reason he should return is if they have complied enough evidence to convict his guy for life or more, if we can not do that leave him there.

  8. An interesting article in Quillette today from a person who has devoted much of their live to fighting for the environment and against climate change. All the more odd, then, to see him authoring an opinion piece on why we're damaging the environment and wasting our time trying to fight climate change with wind and solar farms. It's a long piece so I'll excerpt a few passages. But his basic premise is that there is no real way to scale up solar and wind power to serve our needs, that they have catastrophic environmental side-effects, as well as being uneconomical, and that we ought to go with nuclear power instead. ...Without large-scale ways to back-up solar energy California has had to block electricity coming from solar farms when it’s extremely sunny, or pay neighboring states to take it from us so we can avoid blowing-out our grid. Despite what you’ve heard, there is no “battery revolution” on the way, for well-understood technical and economic reasons. ... As we were learning of these impacts, it gradually dawned on me that there was no amount of technological innovation that could solve the fundamental problem with renewables. ... Consider California. Between 2011–17 the cost of solar panels declined about 75 percent, and yet our electricity prices rose five times more than they did in the rest of the U.S. It’s the same story in Germany, the world leader in solar and wind energy. Its electricity prices increased 50 percent between 2006–17, as it scaled up renewables. ... Germany’s carbon emissions have been flat since 2009, despite an investment of $580 billion by 2025 in a renewables-heavy electrical grid, a 50 percent rise in electricity cost. Meanwhile, France produces one-tenth the carbon emissions per unit of electricity as Germany and pays little more than half for its electricity. How? Through nuclear power. ...Thanks to its energy density, nuclear plants require far less land than renewables. Even in sunny California, a solar farm requires 450 times more land to produce the same amount of energy as a nuclear plant. ... By contrast, solar panels require 17 times more materials in the form of cement, glass, concrete, and steel than do nuclear plants, and create over 200 times more waste. We tend to think of solar panels as clean, but the truth is that there is no plan anywhere to deal with solar panels at the end of their 20 to 25 year lifespan. Why Renewables Can't Save The Planet

  9. Rumor has it JT is a fake feminist; after the dust settles, does JT still have enough MPs to assemble a functionable 50/50, minority inclusion, provisional balance cabinet?

  12. To tell you the truth, I find it very very heavy irony . JT, a "feminism, minority rights, diversity inclusivity, blah blah ..." advocate, was smoking out by an indigenous woman who he appointed at first becasue of "equal governance."

  13. No, only SOME of the culprits from the Ghadaffi affair were fired (and others were let go who were fall guys that had NOTHING to do with it). The criminal activities at SNC go right to the core of corporate officers and the Board of Directors. AND: I am not "assuming" anything, I could easily name names and cite instances. The whole thing needs to go.

  14. He and his entire gong show cabinet have been a horrible embarrassment for the last 3+ years. Keeping to that standard, he will go out with a bang. At least that MIGHT protect us from the LPC for a few more terms. Will take that to undo the damage.

  15. I can only assume that you get a paycheque from SNC or they are your client. NOBODY else in this country wants an incompetent, organized criminal company working here, doing business from here, drinking from the public trough and bribing officials here and most of all taking work away from competent, ethical and legally compliant companies that bid honestly for the work. Nobody except you, the LPC and SNC, that is.

  16. Canada leads the world in using thorium fuel bundles. They still have to be "seeded" with some uranium rods (to sustain reaction), but nuclear development is still in its infancy. Ultimately, when someone gets it right, we can use thorium fueled, sub-critical mass ("pebble bed") gas cooled reactors and have both safety and simple waste management issues. Of course, fusion will do that as well, but still a fair way down the road, I think.

  19. In fairness, what little Harper did, he did quite well. It's just that he didn't really do that much, nor that much different from what the rest of the middle-of-the-road crowd would or did do. He just managed to do it without being a slimey criminal in the Liberal mold. Still, there was no assault on the institutions of the looney left - one of which - the CBC - is what took him down. Canadian voters aren't that smart (I mean, shit, look at what they elected after Harper).

  20. He did a lot. He saved soldiers lives by buying equiptmnent sole sourced so it would not take 30 yrs for delivery. He took us thru a worldwide recession that if the3 idiots took over we would have been screwed. He was a steady hand and he never embarrassed us on the world stage .He was actually respected on the world stage. Now we are heading for another big recession and guess what, because of trudeaus wild spending we will have no wiggle room.

  21. No, she has choices available to her for how she deals with the country’s largest engineering firms. It doesn’t matter. Don’t build any pipelines, shut down SNC, and bring into law bill C-69 to add more court challenges and red tape to resource development. Hopefully you’re retired and sitting on big savings as young people are shit out of luck for opportunities. https://business.financialpost.com/news/economy/weaker-gdp-than-anyone-expected-shows-canadian-growth-stalling

  22. DPA’s are within the framework of the law. Why did Wilson-Raybould oppose them? She hasn’t said, though she had plenty to say about how her boss pressured her to consider DPA’s. Poor baby. Sure threw JT under the bus. Far as I’m concerned it’s dirty pool from both sides. Where does that leave the thousands of SNC workers? I don’t think Wilson-Raybould’s ideological bias against DPA’s is more important than these workers.

  23. This is very entertaining from across the border...so fun to see that smug bastard Justin Trudeau get his turn in the barrel. Can't say I'm surprised after all of his previous missteps, but this one has longer legs. I wonder what those poor chaps rotting in Chinese detention think about the "rule of law" now ? The funny part is that the CBC wanted to cover the Michael Cohen hearings "LIVE !" from another country, but the JWR hearings back home demanded full attention instead !
