You're such a hypocrite on this issue that you have no credibility whatsoever here Rue. The Dems/Hillary/Obama spied on Trump specifically to influence an election (do you remember when Trump came out with the accusation that his campaign was being spied on and Obama and everyone in the media laughed and called him a liar? Turns out they were the liars/misinformers and do you remember hearing their apology? Me neither.) - they sent a bogus pile of info to a FISA court to get a warrant to spy on him towards that end. You enthusiastically agree with the huge pile of stench known as the Russian collusion investigation that was started by Obama/Hillary, now you call it a crime when Trump tries to get an investigation started based on a whole host of verifiable facts. TOTAL HYPOCRISY.

I was thinking the other day, as I watched the first 'news' item on my local TV news, about advocacy journalism. The first, most important item of the day was a long piece about a group which gives presents to refugee kids and makes them aware of Santa Claus and how delighted these kids are to be here. This was followed by a piece on the food bank about how grateful people are to get free food. Meanwhile in the Globe, there's a long, long piece of advocacy journalism on the 'plight' of Muslim women in Quebec, where they're no longer allowed to wear their religious outfits if they want to work for the government. And the local paper has responded (apparently) to the growing number of people who like to write 'diversity is our strength' after crime pieces which are mainly about newcomers by removing the names of those accused from the stories. Mustn't let people get the wrong idea, after all, even if it's, well, factual. There is a lot of hand-wringing. mostly by the Left, about why alternative sources of news have drawn more and more people away from the 'mainstream press'. And I would suggest the reason is advocacy journalism. This is something the media has indulged in for some time, but it's gotten worse and worse as the ideological beliefs of the media have moved further left. Once it's known you have an agenda, and start pushing themes to change people's minds, people begin to lose trust in everything you say, and wonder what you're NOT saying. This is not an idea which has evidently occurred to the Left, whose response is invariably to try to either ban those alternative sources, or pay government money to the existing ones so they can outspend the alternatives, or at at least control what the alternative sources of news say. These anti-Trumpers need to stop listening to the lying leftist liberal MSM outfits like CNN, MSNBC, and our own liberal pro-democrat CBC. They should at least try to listen to other news outlets like FOX News to try and get the other side of the story. Too only listen to one side of a story is to know nothing at all. I don't think it's correct to say that the media shapes the agenda, rather the media simply panders to ideological camps already entrenched, without altering the confirmation biases of those camps whatsoever. Rather than being influential, the media is actually dying a slow death, because nobody is willing to pay for the crap they produce anymore.

This is a better forum since MLW is actually moderated. Bullying of members is not really encouraged. The way Rue is treated on that forum is horrible. I feel much more welcome on this forum. I worked for the ICAO -the UN building in Montréal-. The whole building is a waste of space and money. Nothing happens there. But we can "boast" about how much Canada and Montréal are connected to the world -by wasting hundreds of millions of taxpayers money every year-. I have confidentiality agreement and may not get into the juicy details in this thread. But there should be investigations on a broader scale as to how money is spent by the federal government.

I read a thread about this topic on an inferior political forum, so I thought I would post it here to garner opinions on this issue. The UN seems to becoming obsolete and corrupt. Perhaps it is time to disbanded it, in favor of something new and more effective. It's starting to remind me of the League of Nations.

If not him there'll be another along soon enough. As we both like to say Trump is just a symptom. America elected him to lower the bar enough to put it within reach of people as low or lower.
