  1. ...and your stupid government was outsmarted by Trump...again. At the same time, your stupid government was hosing up the SNC-Lavalin bribery charges.

  2. BEIJING — China said Wednesday it suspended a second major Canadian canola exporter over alleged safety concerns, further deepening a diplomatic row set off by Canada’s decision to detain a top executive with telecom giant Huawei. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said China’s actions were “scientific and reasonable,” but added that Canada should “take practical measures to correct the mistakes it made earlier” in the bilateral relationship. As I have noted on this site earlier, China pays no attention to rules, laws or agreements unless it suits them. People might remember they already blackmailed Canada by threatening canola imports a couple of years ago. When we gave in they signed an agreement promising the trade was safe until 2020. This simply shows how little the word of the Chinese government is worth. And in their latest arrogant pronouncement they make it quite clear this is being done as punishment for us not releasing their corrupt princess arrested due to Huwai's corrupt financial and trade practices. The reason the Chinese feel free to keep hitting us is because our wimpy, useless selfy loving prime minister and his government haven't got the spine to stand up to them. The kind of people running China will ALWAYS bully, prod and push everyone else to get anything they can. They will never stop until someone stands up to them. Thus far we haven't even begun to approach doing so. Whether it's illegally arresting Canadians in China, flooding Canada with fentanyl, cheating on trade, or breaking agreements, China is a country not to be trusted, a country which understands power and only power. We currently export about $27 billion in mostly agricultural and raw materials to China. But we import over $75 billion in goods, mostly manufactured goods. That is a strong lever to use, and we should do so. Whatever the export loss of Canola, we should double it, and outright ban the import of that amount of Chinese goods, starting with things made in Canada or otherwise easily replaced, like steel, sports equipment, and automotive parts and equipment. We should outright ban Huawie from operating in Canada at all on any level, right down to their cell phones, cut back on Chinese students allowed into our schools, ban all money coming from China for research at our universities, and end Chinese immigration to Canada. If China retaliates we should double the amount of Chinese goods banned. We should also subject every vessel arriving from China to a thorough, top to bottom inspection for fentanyl on the grounds that all the fentanyl in Canada comes from China. And if that means Chinese ships backed up all the way to Hawaii - I'm fine with that. https://www.theglobeandmail.com/opinion/article-canada-must-develop-a-backbone-in-its-dealings-with-china/

  3. The SNC business has caused Trudeau's numbers to drop slightly below Trumps, although the numbers mean different things in the different systems. What may come to haunt Trump is what could come out of the Mueller report when we get to hear the full file and not just Barr's 4 pager.

  4. So you're blaming them because your straws wound up in the ocean. I guess it's true that conservatives really only believe in personal responsibility for others. Perfect that you use that as excuse to whine about having to ask for a straw.

  6. ...and that's OK. Why can't you accept the differences...the good and bad ? China is also uninterested in Canada's smug virtue signaling and human rights superiority, even as it continues to hose "aboriginals". Get down to business and leave all that crap at the door.

  7. You make such comparisons a lot...it is very telling. Israelis and Americans usually don't exhibit such doubt or questioning about their country. Do you need such routine reassurance ?

  10. Dude...even tiny Israel could kick Canada's ass. There is just no political appetite or will to ramp up defence spending to the necessary levels.

  13. Give her back to China for trade concessions...no big deal. We had to bust Conrad Black's ass too, remember ? First, Canada can never do any of these things, but thanks for asking. Americans will not die for The Ukraine....not going to happen. Those bastards that Freeland loves so much would have happily nuked New York just a few decades ago. Putin already had a go at Crimea, and Obama/NATO/Canada did nothing. So why is Trump expected to be the savior ? The U.S. and China are now the world's largest trading partners, and that is not going to change...both nations need each other. Canada can fight it's own self inflicted battles.

  15. That's fine, and a wonderful distraction from your big problems with China, Russia, USA, KSA, and other nations. The U.S. does not exist to make up for Canada's economic or military deficiencies. But look at the bright side....Canada now has a reason to smugly bitch and moan about Americans and the United States....the Canadian national past time.

  16. The U.S. has more legal and illegal immigrants than any other country in the world...for over 100 years. Humble American is an oxymoron....that's a Canadian value, because Canada really has no other choice. If America wants to pivot away from the deadbeat parasites...it is America's choice. Canada didn't do much in the Pacific back then, and can do even less today. China can smell weakness, and Canada smells just like that with your present ruling government. The U.S. is not going to save your ass on trade...it is a competitor. Sorry, but it seems that Canada has always been somebody else's bitch.

  17. Exactly....any competent government would have the courage and diplomatic chops to cut a deal and repatriate Canadian nationals. But these boobs had neither, and only made a bigger mess of things with SNC-Lavalin and the "rule of law".

  18. Then why did your foreign minister do just that...imploring the United States to continue defending the post ww2 order and trade framework ? Why did Canada point to the USA instead of the EU or other nations to continue paying the lion's share, while being a NATO deadbeat ? U.S. defense spending is only about 5% of GDP, and has been declining for decades. Actually, most of the mess stems from your failed British Empire going back to WW1. Canada was proudly part of that empire, and developing a new human rights imperialism called the "Responsibility to Protect". Lots of bark, but less and less bite over the past 50 years. Talk is cheap...just follow the money. Twice an many Canadians still travel to the USA each year than Americans going to Canada. What you would like to see has nothing to do with post WTA/NAFTA reality. Canada sold out long ago, having to survive when a bankrupt Britian cut Canada loose for good. Canadians made such decisions, so don't think you can escape blame/responsibility by pointing at how "bad" it is in the U.S. (or China). That kind of smug superiority will not pay the bills. Agreed...nothing special about Canada. American leadership will make decisions (good and bad) based on American priorities, not Canadian. The U.S. has global interests and obligations that Canada could never fathom, let alone shoulder.

  19. Good point...Canada has also refused to extradite convicted criminals who flee from the USA before incarceration, as in the case of a female sex offender from Florida. So Canada has exercised sovereign rights before in extradition cases, refusing U.S. requests per "treaty".

  20. So it's our fault for agreeing to ship it to countries which say they will recycle it, not their fault for not doing it properly? That seems like paternalistic bullshit. Do you have any evidence the plastic waste shipped for recycling winds up in oceans as opposed to locally produced garbage being thrown in without processing?

  21. Trump has gone on record claiming immigrants are "murderers, they're rapists, and I guess some are good people" and also that the neo Nazi's at Charlottesville were "good people". That would likely scare the hell out of anyone who has a valid refugee claim. And of course most are not coming from Haiti. Sorry there aren't enough white people fleeing starvation and violence for ya.

  22. Far, far more money has been paid out by IAF in whatever name they have used for every status Indian in this country to live in the very lap of luxury. We did a study of that once, and found (25 years ago) that about $22k a year was budgeted to IAF for every man, woman and child in Canada with a treaty number. BUT: maybe 20% of that money ever saw a living, breathing aboriginal - and then the vast majority of what did ended up going sideways at the band council level. The big bux go to those "consultants" who are in favour of the IAF bureaucrats - and you can guess just what it takes to buy that favour. When you go to a reserve (at least any one of the hundred or so I have been on) you will find a very high level of unemployment. About the only "jobs" are working for the band, and most of those a "per diem" people who simply drive their new F250 from meeting to meeting. When you see those crumbling homes on TV, you don't see the thousand people sitting around with their finger up their ass doing diddly squat to maintain or repair those homes. When you hear about the lack of water, you seldom are told about the facilities that were built for them to treat water, but nobody could be bothered to learn how and operate and maintain that infrastructure. Before they got involved with the Mafia to build casinos here, you probably weren't told of the gambling junkets for chiefs with complementary rooms, booze and broads. The real world of reserve life is very, very different from what the bleeding hearts and halfwit media portray. IMHO: if we agree we owe something to aboriginals under treaty obligations, then cut each one a cheque for their share every month. When their band council squawks about self government, simply tell them to tax it back from their citizens. In fact though, the entire idea of having a couple hundred "sovereign nations" within one sovereign nation is total BS. It simply is impossible.

  23. I don’t think that assistance to Indigenous peoples should be a permanent arrangement. It should have a scale-back mechanism that kicks in once a self-sustainability plan is in place, gradually reducing to zero as employment and resource development improves. This is what should happen. What do I actually think will happen? Taxpayers continue to fund Indigenous affairs such that many Indigenous peoples don’t have an incentive to work in and contribute to the wider economy or even the local Indigenous economy. Those who leave the reserve tend to be more successful. There are some successful reserves/territories, especially out west. Any time taxpayers push back and question budget expenditures on Indigenous affairs, will there always be images circulated in the media of kids living in third world conditions, huffing gasoline, and so forth? I wish it could be different. I’m willing to give some of my income in the hope of real improvement. It’s sad because even as non-Indigenous are blamed for cultural genocide and “stealing the native land”, the overriding impression that non-Indigenous people have of Indigenous people is of welfare recipients, a stereotype that certainly doesn’t speak for all Indigenous people. Most people don’t buy into the romantic notion that Indigenous people were more moral or decent than European settlers. Images of Iroquois burning missionaries and Hurons alive tell us otherwise. Indigenous people did not have a better way of life back then and most Indigenous people today are not choosing to live as they did 300 years ago. Everyone should work and contribute to their society. Doing so makes preserving and celebrating Indigenous cultural traditions more viable.

  24. I thought we had shown there was no such problem, that it was all in your mind, and that your fear of Islamophobia is merely the expressed wariness and suspicion Canadians are feeling about the mass immigration of extremely conservative Muslims.

  25. As with the Danforth guy, it seems they are trying to suppress the information. To what end, I have no idea. Perhaps because it does not sit well with their virtue-signalling narrative. However what the Liberals are doing is political suicide, and hopefully it will reflect in the polls. Seems that the British media are desperate to do likewise, keep information from being released to the public. In Germany they are now doing an about-face, the German government is scaling back on the number of migrants they are accepting, and has ramped up deportation. This is in response to growing public opposition to the immigration levels, and the fact that migrants are not being returned to their home countries if/when it is removed from the high-risk countries listing.
