I am now about to remake our immigration system. Here are a few of my likely policy changes. Immigration numbers will be cut back to 200,000 Family immigration will be eliminated except in humanitarian cases. Investor class immgiration will be eliminated entirely. All potential immmigrants must pass basic language tests given at the embassy or consulate. All potential immigrants must have a job offer for a job which cannot be easily filled by Canadians in order to immigrate to Canada (which is the requirement in the US) The requirement that immigrants attest to their desire to reside in Canada will be reinstated. The period of residency before acquiring citizenship will be raised back to 5 years. All potential immigrants will be interviewed, which will allow an immigration officer to assess their language skills as well as their personal suitability and willingness to adapt and assimilate into Canada. They will also be required to answer, in writing, a series of fairly routine questions related to the profession they claim to be a member of in order to weed out those with fake documents and degrees. They will also be given a version of the 'personality' tests Canadian business routinely use to assess people's values and beliefs to see if they will fit in. In addition for a potential immigrant getting points for language ability, education, job skills, etc., the potential immigrant's spouse will also be able to add points to his score if he/she also has language skills, education and job skills. Canada will prioritize immigration from countries and areas in order to prevent the build-up of ethnic ghettos in Canada. For years Canada has taken a large number of immigrants from certain countries and areas which has supplied a continuing stream of that group to help enlarge and sustain such ethnic communities. Changing the focus of our immigration will allow those ethnic groups to more readily assimilate. This would mean targeting places like South America and Europe which have supplied minimal numbers of immigrants over the past few decades and which, consequently, do not have large ethnic communities here which retain the values and beliefs of their homeland. Every refugee applicant will be kept in custody pending their hearing. Every refugee applicant's story will be checked out by the embassy/consulate in the country where they reside (Which means if you claim to be persecuted because you're gay your family and friends better know about your being gay). Canada will only grant temporary asylum for a perdiod of five years. After which the condition of their country or situation will be reassessed to see if they can return home. Canada will adhere to the UN definition of refugee. This definition does not consider people living in a war torn counry like syrian (except minorities being persecuted) as refugees. Nor does it consider poverty, ie, Hait, to be a justification for asylum claims. Nor would it allow women who claim their husbands beat them to make asylum claims. Immigrants/refugees who have met the residency requirements and wish to apply for citizenship must pass language tests (more than basic) and must demonstrate the efforts they have made to assimilate, as well as having been self-supporting and having no criminal record. (this is the case in most western countries). Citizenship will be automatic only to those born to Canadian citizens. It will not be granted to those who happen to be flying overhead at birth, or to people who come here to give birth, or to visitors or refugees or students (except in the case where the resulting offspring would otherwise be stateless). If refugees become Canadian citizens then any child born to them in Canada automatically becomes a citizen.1 point

Yeah, I wouldn't hold your breath on the Chinese and Russians standing up to the Americans with nuclear weapons, the Russians and Chinese are well aware that they are thoroughly outclassed by the US military and in the event of a nuclear conflagration the American counterforce would cripple their deterrents resulting in most of it never getting off the ground, the CONUS would take some hits, but the Union would not perish from this earth, while Eurasia would take the vast vast brunt of it. The thing about the Balance of Terror, is that its rather imbalanced in the Americans favour, as while the Russians and Chinese have the nukes, they don't have the global comprehensive early warning that the Americans do, so while the Americans can see them coming from a long ways off, the Russians are Chinese are actually vulnerable to a preemptive counterforce option.1 point

Liberty > Safety. You do what you gotta do, but I'll not cower in the bottom of my trench in the face of totalitarian "Peace and Harmony", cause "Peace and Harmony" at any cost is the doctrine of the People's Communist Party of China.1 point

Well, the American first and second amendments are the last lights burning in a world sliding back into totalitarianism, so, even as a Canadian, I'd stand shoulder to shoulder with the Americans to defend them unto death as necessary, if they'd have me.1 point

This is a relevant opinion on what the elites so casually miss when they decide to change the world as they have, with heavy immigration and globalization. It has become commonplace for news reports to refer to almost any civic unrest, or even unusual patterns of voting, as evidence of ‘resurgent nationalism’ — implicitly suggesting a visceral hatred of foreigners and a desire to set the clock back to the glory days of racial homogeneity and casual homophobia. We should be wary of accepting this media trope: for one thing it may arouse far more fear than is warranted. But apart from the needless fear it generates, it is also slightly dubious to suggest that it is the gilets jaunes or the Five Star Movement or the supporters of Brexit or even Donald Trump who are acting intemperately. It is perfectly possible to argue that these movements are a sensible, overdue reaction against governments that have imposed economic globalization on the world at a pace that is entirely inconsistent with the human lifespan and the speed at which we can adapt to change. The free movement of people, the euro, large-scale immigration, the dissolution of the nation state — for that matter the admission of China to the WTO… all were imposed on the world by ideologically motivated elites with little public consultation. Regardless of whether you think they are good or bad, there is a perfectly sensible secondary question to be asked about whether they were too much too soon. Remember, such decisions are usually made by economists, who do not really understand either time or scale. Nor does conventional economics take into account the importance of identity. https://spectator.us/identity-important-wealth/1 point

Rex Murphy puts things into perspective. And within Canada, any serious response to our own Paris commitments would require “… drastic economic overhaul … hiking the price of gas by up to 100 per cent, ceasing development of the oilsands, radically reducing the number of Canadians who drive every day, along with many other actions — and all within a period of 10 years.” It would require crippling industrial output in every sector, with the further inevitable burden of a great reduction in what we regard as essential government services. That’s not a “price on pollution.” It’s a determination to greatly lower living standards for a higher cause. If the government really believes its own rhetoric on global warming, there’s the real cost, and anything less is a sham. https://nationalpost.com/opinion/rex-murphy-how-the-liberal-carbon-tax-is-not-unlike-a-2000-cat-door1 point

Liars on the left try to paint the trade war with China as belonging to Trump. China's trade war on the USA started 18 years ago. Under Obama and the presidents before him, the USA bent over and grabbed it's ankles. No one before Trump has tried to hold China accountable. And for that he gets blamed.1 point

Amazing that you would be so uninformed that you would even thing that the arctic would be two degrees warmer because the earth is two degrees warmer! If you have no experts to take your denialist side then enlighten us more with your own personal science! Your 'shit shows' you're screeching on about surely must be good evidence of you being right! Let alone even caring! Can you produce a paid by big oil shill to give us something a little more substantial? One thing we can believe reliably is that you must be a Conservative!1 point

As I always keep trying to remind people these days about liberals is that they truly are an exercise in futility. They still cannot get it thru their thick skulls that the dumbocrats have nothing on Trump. But Trump has a hell of a lot on them. The sad part is what is Trump waiting for to once and for all nail their leftist liberal lying azzes? Lock her up say the Trump people.1 point

Perhaps you should go back through your own posts and check for spelling mistakes, if mine are so unreadable perhaps you should either stop reading them or put me on ignore….As for my profanity, your going to have to grow a thicker skin , maybe you should re read the forum rules, or once again see my first statement....if it will make you happy then be all means report me.... Your not on here to debate anything , your here to troll. taking up valuable band width, all you've done is make statements that are made to inflame not to add to the debate, you have not added one source that is valuable, or from a trusted source for that matter. Thats not how this forum is run sorry. Thanks for the reminder, any decent Canadian would not come on to a mostly conservative forum, announce that he is an extreme leftist and begin to attack everyone that did not agree with there out to lunch leftist ideals.....here are some examples. I like this one here you explain how conservatives are to stupid to understand how the country is being run or should be run according to snowflake ideals.....thats not a troll.... Here we go once again this time comparing the Trump government to NAZI's and then saying that is where the cons are going to drag the rest of the country....thats not a troll..... Here you dail it in , and tell me I'm not smart enough to follow the few comments you have posted....thats not a troll..... just another troll message.... So Moon Pie ,Want some advice , either pack up your shit and move on, because nobody likes a troll.....or invite more of your leftists friends here and make this your new home....because the only thing conservatives like more than shooting shit and blowing stuff up is make liberals cry....1 point

We do not, and cannot, know how genuine democracy will come to Iran. It may come via a general strike, followed by an insurrection, which would necessarily cost many lives. But there are a myriad of other paths. Note that most of the dictatorships in Europe and Latin America in the last fifty years were replaced more or less peacefully: Spain, Portugal, Greece, Chile, Argentina, Guatemala .... This happens when the great majority of civil society decided that the old order must go. In Iran, a large section of the population believes this -- but there is also a large section which does not -- at least not right now. Time is on the side of the democrats. In the meantime, people outside of Iran who want to see more democracy and liberalization there should do everything to support peaceful dissidents in that country, by publicizing their existence, bringing the attention of the world community to injustices committed there, and to helping to integrate Iran into the world. (For example, cultural exchanges would be a great step forward.) There are a lot of myths about Iran. This is a great, ancient civilization, with a population which has enormous potential to play a leading role in the intellectual and economic progress of humanity. It's not an Islamist North Korea. A good first step, for those for whom it is possible, would be to subscribe to some Iranian blogs -- there are many -- and maybe even to visit the place sometime.1 point

Typical...anti-American critics who must find fault with U.S. investment somewhere...because...we all know Canada could have sent a better fly-by satellite to Pluto & Ultima Thule so much cheaper if it "really" wanted to. Far cheaper still to just watch the NASA feed this week from the Americans instead....now that's Canadian !1 point

Not true...several services in the U.S. are delivered with a publicly funded (social) business model (e.g. primary education, transportation infrastructure, state/national parks, water treatment, etc.). Sick care is also a business in other G7 nations, with varying degrees of funding by public insurance programs. America is so poor, other nationals have made it the #1 destination for legal and illegal immigrants, including those from Canada and Russia. Let the Russian(s) have their swing at poor America too, just like some Canadians love to do.1 point
