Right wing ideology can exist without centralized authority for the most part or certainly with limited centralized authority but left wing politics requires a strong centralized authority and obedience to it in order to achieve it stated goals. You can't control speech, redistribute wealth, collect tax etc etc without the benefit of a powerful centralized gov't. That requires a certain level of weakness amongst the people. If the people themselves are strong and capable of providing for their own needs then they don't have any interest in a centralized authority If however the people are weak and divided and do not share a common set of beliefs or goals or morals or ethics then it becomes much easier to claim that we need a strong central authority to manage all of these diverse interests When they say diversity is our strength they're referring specifically to the government.
