TONIGHT!

LITTLE MOSQUE ON THE PRAIRIE!

8 PM

---- Charles Anthony banned me for 30 days on April 28 for 'obnoxious libel' when I suggested Jack Layton took part in illegal activities in a message parlor. Claiming a politician took part in illegal activity is not rightful cause for banning and is what is discussed here almost daily in one capacity or another. Right after the Rick Mercer report....should be a killer tuesday line up.

Personally I miss the tournement...that littel show that stereotyped muslims as doctors, car dealers as type A achievers, mechanics as blue collar types, single moms as horney, french candians as devout catholic virgins.....

I greatly miss Train 48, a fantasy show that portrayed public transit commuting as a social activity. I also miss CBC's Snakes & Ladders, about a parliamentarian who cares too much. Like, that's just too funny! And Wayne & Shuster, which portrayed old-people as funny. What a nutty premise.

Hey, wait a minute! I don't miss that stuff at all!

Moustaches?

This is the non-sequiter thread, yes?

I really miss "DaVinci's Inquest".

(pssst...kimmy: Train 48 was a Global production)

Da Vinci's inquest - killer show (pardon the pun). Best show on TV.

I'm convinced that MikeDavid secretly works in the promotions department at CBC. Who else would be so keen on boosting viewership?

I know, but I thought this was the "reminisce about crappy Canadian TV shows" thread.

Train 48 wasn't that bad - a little quirky but that was it's charm.

BTW did you know it was largely improvisation? That's what I heard, anyway.

Train 48 was the worst show I've ever seen on Television. We questions how it got the timeslot it did. We did talk about it at work back in Ottawa and mostly discussed 'who watches this?'

The Canadian actors went on strike yesterday saying that they were making minimum wage. They need to realize that they don't sell advertising and all actors in second and third world countries are paid very little.

UPDATE!

OK I'M WATCHING THE SHOW NOW ON SAT.

THEY ARE CLEARLY AGAINST CHRISTIANITY MORE THAN I THOUGHT.

THEY SHOW A CROSS ON THE BACKGROUND ON IT'S SIDE WHEN THEY ARE USING A CHRISTIAN CHURCH AS A MOSQUE!

OMG THE SHOW IS WORSE THAN WHAT I IMMAGINED. IT'S A RACIST SHOW. IT'S A PRO-ISLAM, ANTI-CANADIAN.

ONE CHARACTER CLEARLY DEPICTS ARAR.

Well on HNIC, when they weren't too enthusiastic about promoting the show, you can tell its going to be trouble. Oh well in making this show it's open season for anyone to publically slander muslims now.

A parrish hall is not a church. It is only property that belongs to a church.

You are such a fool. If this show was about any other group and used the exact same level of stereotypes, you probably never would of brought it up in the first place. No program will ever appear perfect if you insist on picking it apart with a scalpel.

I liked it. It could be better, but there were a few good laughs to be had. I think its good that the Muslim characters have widely different backgrounds, instead of being all Iranian, or all Iraqi, or all African like might have been done. Maybe not the greatest, technically speaking, and it could use some work around the edges, but there are a few good characters too that I would like to see developed in later episodes.

Is this the right thread? [if I were Greg, I'd simply delete new threads needlessly created.]

I saw the last half of this TV show. I found all the advertisements irritating and I also found the acting amateurish. TV is simply too clippy and stilted. Perhaps TV actors lack confidence in what they're doing and the result is not convincing. Film actors are convinced that they are what they portray. Or something.

IOW, TV acting strikes me as lame and this show is no exception.

On the other hand, I found the script cute and appropriate. I enjoyed the various accents. In a vague way, I'm reminded of "Bend It Like Beckham" or "My Big Fat Greek Wedding". You just know there are going to be jokes about food. It doesn't make light of a serious issue, it simply ignores the issue. Maybe "Hogan's Heroes" is a better comparison.

I can't judge if it's good or bad TV. I probably won't watch it again. I saw recently "The Painted Veil" and "Little Children" which are far better.

There are good TV actors. None of them appear to be on this show, but for a small made-in-Saskatchewan production, I don't consider that to be too surprising.

I agree, some of the jokes and gags were cute. (I liked when the cafe owner gets fed up of the transplanted Torontonian complaining about the lack of cappuccino, so she slams a scoop of ice-cream into his coffee and says "There is your cappuccino.")

I do somewhat feel that most of the white folk (the prairie-dwellers, including the convert wife, as well as the Toronto airport security) look to be ... well, pretty dumb. Only Father McGee and the mayor seemed to be anything more than a mid-grade idiot. I guess a mitigating factor is that most of the brown-people seemed to be mid-grade idiots as well, so it's tough to take it as a racist statement. Sit-coms need idiots.

How 'bout that Byron Ritchie?

I missed the show (not surprising), but some of the responses here were right about what I expected. 'Funny, cute, but safe'.

By the way, it is pretty obvious 'mikedavid00' is a 'FLAMING INTERNET FORUM TROLL', in case no one else has noticed. Gawd I hate those. I truly believe he, Jerry Seinfeld, and about 500 others here are really the same, bored person.

Too funny, I just finished watched LMoTP and thought it was funny and feel it can only get funnier.

About time there was a counter to the obnoxious "terrorist" label that was wrongly forced upon Mulims.

I watched it, and found little to have any opinion about whatsoever. Though TV shows rarely elicit a great response from me.
