The world price for oil can be quite volatile and oil companies can go thru long periods of boom and bust. Petro-Can was created during a time of oil shortages and inflation, and was sold off during times of oil gluts and low commodity prices, and of course for political considerations. We're the only G7 country with no gold inventory.

I think they're psychological issues cause them to bypass their intelligence entirely. They don't actually engage in 'thought' regarding the issue, they mentally go from "see issue" straight to "defend leftist prescribed position on issue" without actually processing the issue. 

That's why reasoning with them is so hard. You can show them all the facts you want and make all the logical arguments you want but it just completely bypasses their ability for rational thought. So it doesn't matter how smart or stupid they are, they're cognitive abilities never engage the issue in the first place

When I was in the cult, they expressly forbade getting information outside of the organization.  You could get kicked out if you read or viewed anything the cult deemed a wrong source.

I didn't know your story, that's quite the ordeal to go through. I'm sure it's painful to this day and I'm glad you got out in one piece. It certainly helps explain why you don't suffer this type of foolishness lightly. I would imagine that seeing this type of blind devotion and avoidance of facts sets off all kinds of red flags for you.

I find their antics amusing so sometimes I forget that while it can seem I'm using the harm is kind of thinking can do is very real. And the real world harm people who think like this can do can be horrible for those around them

He's going to give $25 billion of your tax dollars into this fund. Then he's going to hope that other people like banks and so ones so forth and pension funds and individuals put money into their fund as well

That is true to some extent, but then there's the question of it being 'truly independent if politically motivated priorities are enshrined in the fund’s charter, as it currently appears. The sovereign wealth fund is connected to federal support for what Ottawa says is nation-building work, such as ports and natural resources projects' (from the Globe and Mail).  Personally, I think it's a good idea to start looking into these types of things, but the devil is always in the details, and there's a host of other questions that have to be answered as well. Maybe at this early point in time he's just fishing and trying to get some kind of public and media reaction. Because he seems to be woefully unprepared to answer basic questions.
