Norways funds come from it's ownership and royalties of it's oil. We do not own the oil....Harper sold it and Alberta gets the royalty. Yes, Martin put the remaining 19% share up for public sale in 2004. Harper sold 81% in 1991 Yes Harper approved the Nexen sale which was a mistake. Harper wasn't in office in 1991. 1 Quote

Carney mentioned it in his announcement On April 27, 2026, Prime Minister Mark Carney announced the creation of Canada's first national sovereign wealth fund, the Canada Strong Fund, designed to invest in nation-building infrastructure projects, echoing models like Norway's sovereign wealth fund. 2 hours ago, ExFlyer said: In contrast, Canada does not own any oil production. Harper sold ours to China "In December 2012, the Harper government approved the $15.1-billion acquisition of Calgary-based Nexen Inc. by the Chinese state-owned company CNOOC." LOL we've been over this a million times. Harper didn't sell anything. He just didn't deny the right to sell to those who owned the company. But you HAVE to lie, because the truth doesn't actually support you And the state didn't own that company so even if they hadn't sold it the state would STILL not own oil companies. AND we still have MASSIVE amounts of oil companies not owned by china, Now you look like a tard. This is why nobody takes you seriously 59 minutes ago, ExFlyer said: Point was and is, We, Canada owned it and some of you conservatives have been comparing Norways SWF and how it got the funds and how big the SWF is. The sale was finalised by Paul Martin in 2004. The world price for oil can be quite volatile and oil companies can go thru long periods of boom and bust. Petro-Can was created during a time of oil shortages and inflation, and was sold off during times of oil gluts and low commodity prices, and of course for political considerations. I wish they hadn't, it's not as if they had nationalized the whole oil and gas industry. We've sold off all of our gold bullion as well, which I thought was rather stupid. We're the only G7 country with no gold inventory. Quote

I think they're psychological issues cause them to bypass their intelligence entirely. They don't actually engage in 'thought' regarding the issue, they mentally go from "see issue" straight to "defend leftist prescribed position on issue" without actually processing the issue. That's why reasoning with them is so hard. You can show them all the facts you want and make all the logical arguments you want but it just completely bypasses their ability for rational thought. Then he's going to hope that other people like banks and so ones so forth and pension funds and individuals put money into their fund as well Then he will decide if a project, In his opinion, is in the national interest, whether it's windmills or a lesbian dance University or a battery Factory or A manufactured home facility owned by a Brookfield subsidy. if so he will 'invest' the money into that venture to make it "easier" for his buddies that private entity to proceed with that project, which means our money will fund projects that WOULD have been funded by the private sector entirely if only they got useless regulation and taxes out of the way in the first place This is basically a filter. This will guarantee that groups and projects he's not fond of don't happen while friendly organizations and projects he likes and can tap for money proceed Nice lies and propaganda. He clearly said the fund would be independent and arms length not under the control of politicians and definitely not “him personally” as you dishonesty claim. We alteady have of arms length independent bodies such as CPP for there’s a model to follow. People have been calling for a sovereign wealth fund for a long time. Must you people really invent fake news in order to have something to criticize? That is true to some extent, but then there's the question of it being 'truly independent if politically motivated priorities are enshrined in the fund’s charter, as it currently appears. The sovereign wealth fund is connected to federal support for what Ottawa says is nation-building work, such as ports and natural resources projects' (from the Globe and Mail). Personally, I think it's a good idea to start looking into these types of things, but the devil is always in the details, and there's a host of other questions that have to be answered as well. Maybe at this early point in time he's just fishing and trying to get some kind of public and media reaction. Because he seems to be woefully unprepared to answer basic questions. Quote
