blackbird Posted August 3, 2025 Report Posted August 3, 2025 One reason why a new pipeline should go to Prince Rupert from Edmonton Alberta instead of to Vancouver is because of the already busy Vancouver Harbour and Georgia Strait. We don't want to increase the number of ships in a busy area like that. Prince Rupert is on the BC north coast and relatively light traffic in the ocean around there. A terrible accident occurred 55 years ago when a freighter ran into a BC Ferry on the BC south coast. That's an example of what can happen. "55 YEARS AGO: On August 2, 1970, three people died when Russian freighter Sergey Yesenin collided with the Queen of Victoria in Active Pass. The freighter’s steel bow sliced through the B.C. Ferry, almost cutting it in half. Story: https://evelazarus.com/bc-ferries-and-the-russian-freighter/ 1 Quote
TreeBeard Posted August 3, 2025 Report Posted August 3, 2025 Freighters going to Vancouver don’t go through Active Pass. Probably because of this incident. 1 Quote

Aristides Posted August 3, 2025 Report Posted August 3, 2025 No way ships the size of these tankers will be going through Active Pass. That should be obvious to anyone who has been there. 1 Quote
herbie Posted August 3, 2025 Report Posted August 3, 2025 Mmmm hmm. And one good reason to leave the unspoiled North Coast alone is called Exxon Valdez too. Two good reason is that unlike the FAKE MAPS Enbridge flogged on the public, the tankers would sail right past where the Quenn of the North ran aground and sankas they left Kitimat. Three good reason is that you don't go out of your way to risk both ends of the Inside Passage. Four good reason is that Prince Rupert is also a busy port and both it and Kitimat will be major LNG terminals.. Now let's use your same desperate attempt at reasoning to imagine a 100,000 ton oil tanker slamming into a loaded LNG carrier. Give it up already. 2 Quote
Queenmandy85 Posted August 4, 2025 Report Posted August 4, 2025 (edited) The OP is suggesting we give away even more of our petroleum resourses for foreigners to burn. We need to preserve our resourses for future generations. It is their birthright and will be essential for their survival. At the rate we are giving it away, our descendants will have nothing.
