If you have tattoos, it is your choice.

If you have dark skin, it is by birth.

Indeed, this is the logic of the xenophobe.

I don't like how you look, dress, speak: it's an affront to my rights.

Looks like someone has a new patronizing catch phrase !

I don't think he's meaning cultural tattoos, I think he means those weird people who intentionally disfigure themselves thinking it's "cool" instead of a cry for help. Or 'devoted' gang members.

Your rights?

While I admire its intent, I strongly disagree with the federal US Civil Rights of 1964.

This US federal act attempted to control private interactions.

If I refuse to marry a person of a different race, it is my choice. As Pierre Trudeau famously said.

No  one disputes your right not to get a tattoo.

This is my thinking.

A person cannot choose their skin colour. By birth, some people are left-handed, others right-handed. This is something they cannot change. It is difficult to learn a new language, almost impossible to lose an accent.

The State should be indifferent to such.

===

But if you choose to have a face tattoo - any tattoo - the State should identify you, and arrest you on this alone.

Before I reply...... since I don't know you - are you serious?

A tattoo is a personal choice. Skin colour is not.

In a civilised state, I see a difference.

If McDonalds refuses to serve someone with tattoos or I choose to marry a dwarf, it is a private choice.

In Canada, we have a bilingual federal State.

Why should they be arrested though?

Conservatives like myself, we want to maximize freedom of choice.

Why stop there? Arrest anyone with a nose ring, drawn eyebrows, pierced earrings, gaudy makeup, dyed hair, no hair, beards, false eyelashes, sunglasses... F*ck it, arrest anyone you don't like the look of!

Disagree.

If a person chooses to have a nose ring, tattoo, earrings: the State should have the right to arrest you.

But if you are left-handed: the State should be indifferent.

Conservatives? Freedom of choice? That's Milton Friedman and libertarian - classical liberal.

Unless they break the law, tattooed people are welcome to look stupid and low class.

Precisely my point.

Tattooes? You chose.

Left-handed, skin colour? You did not choose.

I’ll bring a Māori round and you can explain it all to him in person.

I have been to many Canadian reserves - northern Ontario.

Face tattoos are not like Jewish circumcison.
