If it comes down to that, America might just tell those companies that they can't do business with the US at all if they trade with Canada like that. 

I could see our PM saying that were are temporarily lowering tariffs with those other countries just to help Canadians get through the Trump Trade war.

The tariff on autos is batshit insane, parts come from and are assembled all over. Worked building Kenworths before Free Trade, we'd sit the wheels unattached south, other builders did the same to ship north to circumvent tariffs. Stupid nonsense like that went on all the time.
Now with parts crossing many borders many times, the sole effect will be to drive prices up for customers. Which will sell fewer cars, cost jobs reduce the incentive to invest in new factories.
Even stupider than the Bronze Bozo kissing off EVs completely and costing US automakers to waste their billions invested.

OK but the largest Toyota plant in the world is in Kentucky. That plant makes the RAV 4 Hybrid.

They don't seem to be going as well for him as they thought it would. The stock markets are a mess, many Americans are already beginning to feel the pension it's barely even started, businesses are flocking to him begging for exemptions because of the damage it will do and instead of caving Canada has now committed itself to a long haul battle which will do real harm to his economy. In the meantime he's also got to fight going with Mexico and China.

Look like he's going to get what he wants out of this.  He's hoping manufacturing moves back and they're saying they can't, not before the tarrifs wipe them out, he's hoping to gain revenues from it like a tax and that's not looking like it'll work out due to the loss in income tax revenues from people being laid off or the like, he's having to back down and delay and that makes him look weak. 

This was not a good idea, and it was the height of lunacy to pick the fight with your 3 top customers at the same time.
