Is sola fide true?

Recommended Posts

We hear some people say faith alone(sola fide) saves us and no works are necessary. Is this true? Not if you actually read the bible. First the words "faith alone" appear only one place in Scripture (James 2:24) and that is to tell us the exact opposite of solar fide which is,  "...a man is justified by works and not by faith alone. So it seems we dont have to go too far to show thst sola fide is just not true. But it doesnt end there.

Matthew 7:21 tells us ""Not everyone who says to me Lord, Lord will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my heavenly Father.""

Mark 16:16 "Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved; whoever does not believe will be condemned.

Matthew 25: 31-46.

If you're banking on sola fide to save you.....

I don't need proof, I have faith.

So you have no proof. You may not like or agree with my proof but my faith, which alone won't save me, is based on some evidence. I've challenged people like you before with the idea that they could get me to cease believing in God right now if they could just do one thing.

For people like you nothing would convince you God exists. That's evidence you aren't a thinking person. You could however make me challenge my belief and abandon it if you could do that one thing. It would directly contradict what I believe and would require me to cease my belief.  That's what thinking people do.

No it's not. It's faith.

That's not true. If God himself came down from the heavens and said what's up I might change my tune.

That's not true because you cannot reason someone out of a position they did not reason themselves into in the first place.

Lol "might" the answer is you would write it off to some other cause. Nice try though.

Prove I didnt reason myself into it. I've told you and others you could do something right now that would absolutely make me cease to believe it God. It would directly contradict the evidence I have for God's existence. It's not. "might" in my case like it is for you. You feel you dont think.

Well I'd have to be sure I wasn't having some kind of psychotic break like every other person who has experienced religious visions.

Clear evidence as Aquinas pointed out

Thanks for making my point

What thing is that?

Create something from material not presently in existence. Do that and I would be required to cease my belief.

So to convince you god doesn't exist we merely have to defy the very laws of the universe. LOL ok sure man.

You can cry and moan but I would be required to abandon my belief if you could do it which means in have reached my belief through reason. You in the other hand don't believe in God because you didn't get pony you prayed for. Not quite the same level.

But you can't disprove them as evidenced by your calling them "dumb ass"

Is it? The fact is then first "dumbass" proof you cant disprove is Aquinas first cause. If nothing causes itself but we are here, then someone or something had to have created something from material not then presently in existence. Did evolution and science disprove the existence of God? Keep shining it just makes you look all the more pathetic

If nothing can be created without a creator then who created god?

I prefer to ask about the morality of the God on offer to see if it is the genocidal twins, Yahweh/Jesus.

Those on the right wing who like that vile God, tend to be lost causes to moral thinking.

A shame to see indoctrination go that deep.

Where does one find this faith?

If produced by a brain and mind, that brain and mind is doing work, therefore, faith is reliant on works and deeds of our minds, making the question rather foolish. Right?

doesnt matter where you "find" it what matter is faith alone does not save. anyone who believes that is grossly ignorant.

So you think you can have faith plus work your way to heaven.  I already pointed out Galatians soundly refutes that idea, which you chose to ignore.  Many verses in Romans and Galatians state clearly salvation is by faith.  One must become a child of God first;  then you can do good works.  Unless one is born again by faith alone, he is not a child of God.  You cannot become a child of God by faith plus works.  That is why Catholicism is dead wrong.  The apostle Paul said in Galatians anyone who adds works to faith is under a curse.  You need to study the Bible and learn the truth.  The Catholic church teaching you need faith plus works before you can be saved is obviously contrary to the Bible.  If you accept the teaching that salvation is by faith plus works, you will never know whether you have done enough works to earn salvation.  Nobody could have the assurance they are saved.  That is also contrary to the Bible.

How many good works or what kind would be enough to save you?   Nobody knows but that is where that false dogma leads.  That is why Catholics do not have assurance of salvation.  It would be impossible to know if you had to work your way to heaven.   You appear to trust the Church more than God's word, the Bible.

This should answer that once and for all if you are at all paying attention to the Bible.

  27. Acts 8:13: “Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done.”
  28. Acts 8:37 (8:35-38): “Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus. And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. 35. Acts 16:31: “And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.”

It has nothing to do with what I think its what Scripture says. You reject Scripture for what your strip mall pastor says.

Again you make up in volume what you lack in accuracy. The words "faith alone" appear together in scripture in only one place and that is to we are not saved by faith alone. You speak with no authority because you reject Scripture yet like the heretics throughout history you drape yourself in abused scriptural references.

Most ignore that for a mind to produce faith, it must do the work and deed of thinking.

By faith alone cannot ever happen, as faith is automatically a product of works and deeds.

Well you make a point. Protestants say you must "accept Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and savior" if you want to be saved. I've asked 1000s of protestants what actually saves then, then sacrifice of Jesus or reciting the quoted incantation?
