The shame would work if you had capacity for shame. There is no reason any thinking person with dignity would NOT be embarrassed believing and referencing a petition like that. 

And you are wildly deluded if you think climate activism and pressure will be going away. It will continue to build pressure as it has for the last 40+ years, both because the evidence is utterly overwhelming and because people are seeing the effects. Year after year is the hottest on record and the storms are larger and more frequent. The droughts longer and drier. Species falling into endangerment and extinction. Animals showing up well outside their traditional habitat. Etc. Etc.

And the generations that follow you are much more scientifically literate and are growing up in this reality and understanding that it will affect them directly.
