The ONLY thing to say is that slavery was utterly horrible and inhuman. There was no upside or positive side for the slaves. Slavery happened over 150 years ago. You’re not guilty of it, I’m not guilty of it, white people aren’t guilty of it. But don’t try to say that anything about it was good for the slaves, or that it wasn’t so bad, or that things were worse in other countries.  
 

Slavery in the US was a very horrible thing. It happened, and it ended.  

Slavery was horrible. It still is. That doesn't mean some small benefit couldn't have come from it. Lost of slaves were taught to read and write. Was that bad? There were mixed love affairs. Was that bad?

Every tragedy produces some modicum of good. Admitting that does not mean one would be in favor of a tragedy...it means one is balanced.

So when you shed your intellectual training wheels...let ne know. We could have all sorts of actually interesting conversations.
