Stunned faces and heartbreak for migrants heading to Roxham as they learn Canada will likely send them back (Roxham closed)

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montreal/migrants-roxham-heartbreak-1.6791113

At 4 a.m. on Saturday morning, two buses from New York City arrived at a gas station in Plattsburgh, NY, where groups of migrants carrying luggage and determined to cross into Canada disembarked with no knowledge of the closure of Roxham Road.

Their faces were stunned as two taxi drivers, who had shown up only to give them the news, told them they could not drive them there.

They were four hours too late. They had boarded their buses unaware that by the time they arrived in Plattsburgh, the city closest to the illegal border crossing, they would not be able to follow in the footsteps of the thousands of migrants seeking new lives in Canada who had crossed there before them.

The temperature was –4 C and several of the migrants wore only hoodies. They shivered and looked at each other in disbelief, pleading with the drivers to take them to Roxham Road anyway. The drivers said a United States government directive had come down that they were not to drive them to the illegal crossing after midnight.

And typical CBC - the story is all about how terrible this is for those who were happy to break our laws and not a peep about how illegal immigration affects canadians who don't have enough housing or medical services.

Trudeau will try to sell this as a victory and an accomplishment, and in a way it is but his base won't see it that way and many will look at him the way this CBC article is, and those it WOULD impress already hate him tremendously.

At any rate - it's good that it's finally done.

Wow. Only took just under two decades to close a major loophole. Amazing efficiency how can you beat it.

These are the people who took 7 years just to buy the same airplane they cancelled 7 years ago.    Frankly, considering their track record we're lucky it got closed before we evolved into a higher life form.

Those who are now turned away can blame our PM for the confusion he caused by declaring all would be welcomed in. Then he got a boatload of reality and quietly closes the door after much damage is caused. These are leadership competence issues.

We just dealt away with the medical ethics standards and barely noticed (yet). Who said that leaders need to be competent? Such an outdated nonsense!

All I"m saying is that it's hard to believe Justin Trueau is the best we could do with 4 billion years of evolution to work with.

The people did not choose Justin Trudeua.

More like they had him thrust upon them.

....

Certainly the cannabis industry loves him and his party.

They all have countries like that, now that you mention it.

Wait a minute!   This closing of Roxham Road is not stopping the flow of illegal migrants.  All it is doing is telling them they have to go to a regular border crossing.  So how is this going to stop the flow of thousands of migrants?  I don't think it is.

Well it's actually going to help. The issue is that until yesterday the law said that a refugee fleeing oppression must stop at the first 'safe' country they encountered and not proceed to another country's border checkpoint.  Which allowed canadians to turn them back at the border crossing

BUT - it didnt' say anything about crossing the border NOT at a border crossing.  So if they snuck across they'd have to be treated as refugees.

SO this will allow the rcmp to arrest or turn back people if they show up away from the border crossings and still allow for them to be turned back to america at the regular crossings.

they can still apply for immigration but not as refugees.

Yes they did. The alternative was less desirable.

No, the cannabis industry is fatally ill. "Canadians investing in cannabis businesses collectively lost more than $131 billion. "

Yup, it is so isn't it. No alternative for better so, here we are. The cons had 3 shots at it and failed each time.

Oh and, on topic, Yeah, that damn road is finally closed!!!

Actualy they didn't. He lost the popular vote.

The riding system chose justin. And it's because toronto and parts of quebec are quite comfortable with corruption and division.

"no better alternative' is just the excuse liberals use to justify their support of corruption and graft. It's kind of their go to.

Popular vote means diddly squat.... you are smart enough to know that LOL

Suck it up buttercup, he is your PM and Canada wanted that LOL

Yet the Cons want to change nothing and so the merry party goes on.. .forever or to a hard stop. Trying to figure that out logically.. nah. Give up, have it all.

Well of course that's not true. It does mean something, It's not the factor we choose who runs the place on exactly but it does mean something.

What it means is the majority of voters didn't want justin.

No, he's the pm that onatrio wanted. Ontario voters are fond of corruption.

You sound pretty ok with corruption yourself, so i suspect you're struggling by :)

End of day, most prime ministers get two full terms in office. Justin will get that, just as Harper did.

Then PP will get in. And it'll be payback time.

Well if we had some sort of PR like JT promised, it would mean something.

Duh, it is true, Trudeau is PM....

The ones that counted did. Just to let you know, the electoral districts were the same under Harper. Just because they turned on the cons 3 times makes them irrelevant now? LOL

Nope, I think corruption should be punished, against all, not just one party.

Two full terms??? Get your history right LOL  BTW, a term is up to the government in power.

Yup PP will fix things... and then you will whine against him, just like y'all did against Harper. HA HA HA.

So word is getting out that the US and Canada actually signed this agreement on March 29th of 2022. The Trudeau government had simply been ignoring it until now. Apparently, they wanted to keep it secret and announce it soon before the next election, whenever that is. But with Biden coming over and the Americans refusing to not answer questions that were certain to be put to them about it they announced it this week.

I don't understand how this has been allowed to happen for so long.

What perplexes me, is the entitlement to be allowed in anyways, even though its illegal.

"I spent all my life savings". Okay, well, you should have applied the lawful manner, which would have been money well invested if you had a strong case.

I'll take a million legal immigrants, vs a single illegal one.

Your statement wasn't that it decides who is pm, you said "Popular vote means diddly squat."  And that statement is incorrect. it actually does have meaning.

They all counted unless you're claiming the libs committed election fraud.

There is only one corrupt party in the last 7 years and you've been voting for it Sooooo - obviously you don't.

What part of history did i get wrong? Are you saying most prime ministers DON"T get at leat two full terms worth of time  in office? I suppose we should say elected pms but i think that was pretty obviously implied.   Did you want to look that up before you look stupid?

And no, there have always been fixed terms. A pm can call it early if they like but you're quire wrong about the gov't deciding - ohterwise none would ever hold an election.

The average full term is about 4-5 years.  Which means most elected pm's get 8 - 10 years.

And that's true.  I don't know why you're making a fuss other than you're at that stage again where you realize you've lost the point you were trying to make and now you're just trying to distract.

We didn't whine against harper. :)  Harper is STILL pretty popular with the conservatives.

Justin told a bunch of lies that people unfortunately believed and they voted for hair and socks over brains and talent.

And look what it's got us. The debt situation is disasterous, the spending is out of control, violent crime on the rise, our institutions dont' function properly, the country is more divided than ever, our rights have been eroded and we're the laughing stock of the international stage. Oh - and china is taking over our gov't apperently with the PM'S approval.

Soooo yeah - You did real well with your choices :)
