PIK
Just a quick question. Now I don't know how many people here follow it. But with money being given out, wasted ,stolen by govs, especially this one. Would it hurt to give the league 10 - 15 mil a yr for 5 yrs. Creates jobs, and other benefits and its a old canadian institution ?
WestCanMan
TBH I think the NFL probably dumps money into the CFL, just to keep it going as a feeder league to develop young players. Developing guys like Warren Moon and Doug Flutie is worth a few million to them.
Moonbox
So we waste more money because we're already wasting money? Is that the logic? The CFL is dying because folks generally prefer US-style football and the ones who grew up liking and preferring our brand are aging out. 10-15 mil isn't going to fix that. Nobody really cares about in Ontario, but I can understand why folks in the Prairies might lament its wallowing when it's the only game in down. I think only the Toronto team isn't supported properly. Lots of sports are subsidized. Hockey much Federal Money was given to Hockey Canada before we found out they had a Sexual Assault Legal Slush fund?
Moonbox
Toronto and Montreal are both struggling. That Canada's largest markets can't properly support CFL teams is telling. I don't really know what you want me to cite, specifically, but outside of the West/Prairies, the NFL is vastly more popular than the CFL. Nobody watches it on TV, and it's almost entirely a ticket-driven business.
Moonlight Graham
Why should the government support sports if people don't support it. That means people don't care about it. I definitely don't care about the CFL.
RedDog
Tough one for me. Longtime fan. I’ve noted the empty stadiums. Ottawa is flooding the 3rd world who aren’t fans. it’s not just the CFL. Canada is being ruined
