RAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) — A jury on Tuesday convicted two men of conspiring to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer in 2020, delivering a swift verdict in a plot that was broken up by the FBI and described as a rallying cry for a U.S. civil war by anti-government extremists.

The result was a big victory for the U.S. Justice Department. A different jury just four months ago couldn’t reach a verdict on Adam Fox and Barry Croft Jr. but acquitted two other men, a stunning conclusion that led to a second trial.

Fox and Croft were convicted of two counts of conspiracy related to the kidnapping scheme and attempts to obtain a weapon of mass destruction. Prosecutors said they wanted to blow up a bridge to disrupt police if the abduction could be pulled off at Whitmer’s vacation home.

Croft, 46, a trucker from Bear, Delaware, was also convicted of another explosives charge. The jury deliberated for roughly eight hours over two days.

Must be a PITA to be continually checking their closets and under their beds for Democrats.

How do they keep track of them amongst all the terrorists, Muslims, Nazis, immigrants, commies and such already on the stash?

Jury Convicts Men of Supporting Plot to Kidnap Michigan Governor

The trial in state court followed mixed results in federal court for others accused of scheming to kidnap Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.

The trial in circuit court in Jackson County, a conservative area west of Detroit, played out amid a tense election season in Michigan, a sharply divided state where elections are usually tight.

Governor Whitmer and Attorney General Dana Nessel, a fellow Democrat whose office prosecuted the case, are seeking re-election next month.

The Group's name is the Wolverine Watchmen.

The first time they held this trial, two men were found not guilty after their lawyer successfully argued that the FBI was guilty of entrapment.

A federal judge handling the re-trial of two men charged in connection to an alleged kidnapping plot of Democratic Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer decided Tuesday that information about the first trial, the acquittals of two other men and text messages with an FBI informant cannot be included as part of the evidence presented before the jury during the second trial slated to begin next month.

During the final pre-trial hearing in Grand Rapids on Tuesday ahead of the second trial for defendants Adam Fox and Barry Croft Jr., U.S. District Judge Robert Jonker decided some texts and communication made by a secret FBI informant dubbed "Big Dan" with his FBI handler would not be permitted.

Jonker, appointed in 2007 by former President George W. Bush, also said the jurors will not be permitted to hear that the other two defendants, Daniel Harris and Brandon Caserta, were found not guilty of kidnapping conspiracy in the alleged plot to kidnap Whitmer

Basically, the second trial had to proceed in total ignorance of the fact that the FBI was already deemed to have entrapped other people in their own kidnapping scheme.

Note that the plan was "never set in motion" but the FBI made the big announcement of a terrorist plan being thwarted right before the election.

I won't be the slightest bit surprised if the RCMP bust a domestic terrorist plot here right before our next federal election. It's a pretty slick little gig.

For those keeping score at home, that’s 7 of the would-be MAGA terrorists convicted (including 2 who plead guilty), and only 2 acquitted. 5 more still waiting to go to trial

3 men convicted of supporting plot to kidnap Gov. Whitmer

Three men accused of supporting terrorism in the plot to kidnap Michigan’s governor were convicted of all charges Wednesday in a trial that focused on paramilitary drills and fierce contempt for government ahead of the 2020 election.

Joe Morrison, his father-in-law Pete Musico, and Paul Bellar were found guilty of supplying “material support” for a terrorist act as members of a group known as the Wolverine Watchmen.

They held gun training in rural Jackson County with a leader of the kidnapping scheme, Adam Fox, who was disgusted with Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and other officials and said he wanted to snatch her.

The trial in state court was an offshoot of the main case in federal court, which produced mixed results: Fox and an ally were convicted of conspiracy, two more men pleaded guilty but two others were acquitted.

….“Jackson County is not known to have, I guess I would say, liberal juries. They tend to be a conservative bunch,” Nessel said. “But I think what they saw here was that this is not a political matter…”

There was a time when I would have thought that conspirators planning to kidnap and murder any person -let alone a state governor- would be indefensible.

But political forums have disabused me of that notion. And of course, we see here again that some people will defend *anything* if it suits their politics. There is no right and wrong for them, there is only tribal identify.
