Risk of World War

Question: What's Putin's approval like today in Russia?

Not sure, on the civilian side of things, but Russian tv is pretty scary according to them they are already in WWIII, and the rhetoric is bad. On the troop side reportedly not good, lots of causalities, lots of desertions, and no faith in their leadership.

But an army with high morale and better equipment would have already taken Ukraine, instead, they are using green troops, old equipment like T-72, BMP1 like that's old where is all the new stuff, where are the Guards divisions? nothing about this war is making sense.

it makes a lot more sense if you assume Russians capabilities were vastly overrated and are in over their heads

the Russians are playing 4D Chess theory on the other hand makes no sense at all

Lol...with no proof what so ever.

By the way...if you're gonna quote history, get it right. The Czechs capitulated.

insanity...

The repression of Hungary was brutal, went to school with a kid who's family risked getting shot as they snuck across the frontier.

Soviet tanks in the streets of Prague were not CGI.

"The Czechs capitulated" How considerate of them.

NATO has been studying Russia for a long time now, be it with captured equipment from around the globe, or with Russians that have defected. They have sound capabilities in their equipment and are as close to near-peer to the USA as you can get. Their army is volunteer, They have professional soldiers.. the question is where are they now.

It would be like sending our Militia in as front-line soldiers with only having 30 days of training. With old BMPs and T-72

Where are the T-14s, T-15, M-90MS, and their 5 th generation fighters, even their naval forces second-rate?

Russia has never done anything that was not well thought out and had the enemy overmatched by at least 10 times due to equipment not being western grade, in Russia numbers are everything, but not here

turns out that gap between them and NATO was a lot greater than previously surmised

Russia does things that are not well thought out all the time

you give the Russians too much credit

things make a lot more sense when you assume that

rather than assume your initial perception was accurate

I really hope you are right.

Perhaps i do, but it is better to overestimate an enemy's position than to underestimate it. The Germans underestimated the Russians, and it did not work out well.

To me, I can not make sense of what is happening in Ukraine, Russia still has 2/3 of her army in left field somewhere, why not just overwhelm Ukraine and get er done... instead of throwing away treasure in this slow-motion train wreck of Ukraine. I think Ukraine is just a part of the puzzle more of a distraction than the main objective, and I have no idea what it is.

they can't support the entire army in Ukraine logistically

they are doing a terrible job supplying what they have in Ukraine now

hence the slow motion train wreck

it's not that hard to make sense of

once one stops assuming the Russians are ten feet tall

Using up old munitions with green troops.

This isn't a war...it's a garage cleaning.

Yes the Hungarians paid an awful price.

That was then...this is now. And now...the Russians dont seem interested in anything but Donbas.

Go buy a tank of gas.

Go pay your gas and electricity bills.

Go buy groceries.

Now you know.

Russia is running out of troops

and running out of equipment

even assuming you were right

that is still a strategic blunder to expend it down range while gaining nothing of importance

if they wanted to garbage clean, you don't need a war to do that anyway

they could have done that without starting a war either

and there would fewer downsides for them too

I suppose they could have done that other ways but...

For years we've heard about population control. Gee...this little war is gonna kill people in a number of ways. Especially in 3rd world countries.

Imagine that eh?

you being their fanboi makes even less sense

I never said I'm a fan. But when you have no real good argument...lying and unsubstantiated accusations are the Libbie way.

I have a great argument and it's certainly better than yours

lumping me in with libbies is a clear sign

that you can't rationally evaluate the position of anyone who disagrees with you on this

What argument? That Russia is gonna attack NATO nations? Get a grip...

Your lack of reasonable arguments, leads you to make dumb-ass accusations.

Ya act like a Libbie...ya get called...a Libbie.

they've attacked those parts of the world before

and the reason they attacked them in the past still applies to the present

what proof do you have that Russia has turned over a new leaf?

you don't have any, you just have speculation based on wishful thinking

and you are totally reactionary against any portrayal of Russia as a warmonger

just because the side you don't like says that too

Lol...the Brits attacked the USA. Are you terrified they will again?

Wait...the Soviets took central Europe...because of Ukraine?

They're using green troops and old munitions.

This is a joke of a "war".

the calculation that led to Britain attacking America has changed

the calculation that led to Russia attacking Central Europe hasn't changed

you need to get past the knee jerk reaction to oppose everything the libbies say

sometimes they are right, and just blindly assuming they are always wrong

makes you as NPC as the libbies who assume you are always wrong and knee jerk oppose everything you say

the world isn't that black and white, you are overdoing it on the tribalism

You ASSUME Russia is after all central Europe. You have no proof. Just a bunch of ASSUMPTIONS.

Sounds like Libbie logic to me...

not all of Central Europe

just the Baltic states, Moldova, the northeastern part of Romania and a little of Eastern Poland

on top of Ukraine

when those parts of Central Europe are under Russian control

Russia is much less vulnerable to invasion

because they can forward position troops in the defendable gaps in the geographic barriers

that are the gateways to invading Russia

and also for strategic depth which is how they've thwarted past invasions

which is why Russia has obsessively sought to control those parts of Europe for centuries

and take every chance they get to try and secure them

Russia's main geopolitical strategy hasn't changed much in centuries

and their history has repeatedly reinforced that

it's baked into the culture
