godzilla Posted May 4, 2020 Report Posted May 4, 2020 (edited) Trump was warned in January of Covid-19's devastating impact, memos reveal "The Navarro memos, first reported by the New York Times and Axios, were written by Navarro on 29 January and 23 February. The first memo, composed on the day Trump set up a White House coronavirus task force, gave a worst-case scenario of the virus killing more than half a million Americans. The second memo went even further, predicting that a Covid-19 pandemic, left unchecked, could kill 1.2 million Americans and infect as many as 100 million." Edited May 5, 2020 by godzilla Quote
bush_cheney2004 Posted May 4, 2020 Report Posted May 4, 2020 Sure...Trump ignored it so much he banned travel from China in late January. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

Not all travel, only some travel. 40,000 people still arrived from China after the ban. So you know, pretty lame ban. Of course, Trump then counteracted any efficacy the ban may have had by downplaying the seriousness of the virus, promoting fake cures, and providing absolutely no leadership in regards to effective pandemic control - which is physical distancing and testing. So again, Trump did not "ignore it". In fact, Trump was severely criticized for the travel ban as "waycist"....so hard to ignore all the resulting noise too. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

Since you just admitted, yourself, he got the Navarro memo then made "a smart move" ---altho at first you said "he ignored" the Navarro memo ... lol ... So which one is it?? He made a smart move, or he ignored it? Quote

Going from about 300,000/month to about 15,000/month is a pretty big deal. Edited May 5, 2020 by Tdot Quote

So Trump saved America's bacon with his travel ban, while our PM, who received covid intel from the US, hid in his basement with his blankie and did nothing to protect Canadians. As a result Canadians suffered far more than we would have if we had Trump instead of the village idiot: CANADA vs CALIFORNIA - Almost twice as many Canadians are DEAD, we have a smaller population, we have 1/25th the pop density. Travel from China was banned Jan 31 Cali: 40M people, 424,000sk km, pop density 94 people per sq km (25x our pop density) 2,172 deaths Canada: 38M people, 10M sq km, 3.8 people per sq km. 3,854 deaths. 3,854/2,172 = 1.8x as many Canadians died from Covid. California is a great comp for Canada imo. They have LA County with 10M, we have the GTA with 6M, the also have SD, SF, Sacramento etc. The comp actually gives us a huge advantage because we have a much lower population density, but they still have less deaths than us. godzilla Posted May 5, 2020 Author Report Posted May 5, 2020 California is a great example, WestCanMan! governed by Democrats, stay at home orders were the first in the nation on March 19th. Trumps administration has yet to endorse stay at home distancing. Quote
Boges Posted May 5, 2020 Report Posted May 5, 2020 It seems clear he was warned about this earlier. And a unilateral Chinese Ban is next to useless. The disease was probably already in the country. He delayed calling for Social Distancing. He chastised staff that gave dire warnings. Quote

I agree, because if you go back to those days, he was constantly dealing with the impeachment hoax and publicly pleading to Pelosi/Schumer to get back to Doing the people's work. They refused to. They kept Trump busy with the impeachment hoax ---and this is the resultant. If you are a deceitful Dem, you need to take responsibility for your actions in supporting an impeachment hoax in terms of how it preoccupied our nation. Quote

This virus was already here before there were notions of lockdowns. China internally restricted travel from Hubei to the rest of China, but gave no Fs about stopping flights out of Hubei to the rest of the world. An estimate of 1 million people fled Hubei and Wuhan before the lockdown happened. Even if 1% of them were carrying the virus, that is a lot of spread. In France they found evidence of the virus being there much earlier. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-05-05/france-discovers-undiagnosed-coronavirus-patient-from-last-year If that is the case, then it's gone global way before January. Sure it's early on, but there does not seem to be a coordinated approach from nations on how they go about this. Without a universally accepted test, I don't think we will ever know the real numbers. At this point I am inclined to believe everyone is eventually going to get the virus. Herd immunity will come long before an acceptable vaccine is available. And as with the tests, I'd be wary of the vaccines that will be peddled by different companies. If they cannot properly test for the virus, what makes one think that they will get the vaccine right? The WHO had a test but the CDC decided to develop their own. . . which didn't work. Peddling ineffective vaccines is exactly why it will and SHOULD take months if not years to develop them. They need to be tested, tested and tested again. It's not like treatments Trump has been peddling. You're gravely sick, see if this may work. With a vaccine you're giving a healthy person something that should prevent them getting a disease and not giving them said disease. Quote
