Now people are hoarding booze.

If they have to stay home, may as well self medicate the "misery".

...or maybe they are making hand sanitizer from YouTube videos.

I stocked up, but so far the gubment liquor store is still open, I'm just maintaining a strategic reserve for if we end up in total shutdown

I don't why so many people that claim to value the environment are such Knee-jerk Neo-Malthusian Anti-Human Luddites, but real environmentalists sure as hell would have a much better pitch if they dropped that angle, and openly distanced themselves from the idiots making that argument using their name.

Your luddite fantasies of a vengeful Gaia punishing consumption and technological advance are laughable and absurd.

Luddite? It's not about technology threatening the worker's jobs. I'm not throwing my clogs into the mechanised looms. It's about overconsumption.

I'm sitting here in my solar powered off grid ecotruck consuming the minimum.

I don't buy much except food and I make sure that has the lowest foodmiles possible. I don't even eat meat because of the inefficiencies and high carbon costs.

Better technology leads to increased consumption, therefore, you're a Luddite. Human Flourishing leads to increased consumption, therefore, you're anti-human civilization. Higher population leads to increased consumption. Decreasing consumption is more important to you than human flourishing, that is a morally bankrupt position.

This virus came from Chinese wet markets, and the virus likely never would have existed or become widespread without those wet markets existing.

Wet markets don't exist in nature, therefore, I blame the Commies, who despite being so authoritarian, refuse to use that inclination to permanently shut those pandemic machines down, and you should too.

Yes but who put the virus into the bats in the first place? Gaia is all knowing and omniscient.

You say that like Gaia did it on purpose, instead of via random selection. Gaia didn't put bats, pangolins and humans in such numbers and in such close proximity, that was Chicom backed wet markets.

Better technology leads to lower consumption. That's why my 22 inch LED TV uses 37 watts but my first TV had a 5 inch black and white screen and used 50 watts.

Like Ghandi I think Western civilisation would be a good idea.

Yet you blame the west for overconsumption, and not more backward civilizations. Who are you trying to fool, me or yourself? Obvious anti-civilization stance is obvious, silly luddite.

Gaia is fighting back. There's barely a plane in the sky, no one is out buying their 100th pair of shoes or some unnecessary piece of Chinese plastic junk.

The air is cleaning and for the first time nations are actually on track to comply with the Paris accord.

The only fly in the ointment is that it is only temporary and eventually a cure/vaccine will be developed.

Every little helps though so I'm mining the clouds for all the silver I can get.

You got a very good point. In some parts of India, every street is a landfill. It's these kinds of unsanitary conditions, that lead to pandemics.

Some people even let their livestock eat from the landfill.

The average carbon footprint of a first worlder is 20 times that of an African living in a mud hut. I'm not going to castigate him for making sure he has enough children to make sure one survives to look after him in old age. I'm definitely not going to blame him for the global warming the West has caused with its selfish over consumption.

What communist school did ya come from? Those 4th and 5th babies are going to become mighty wealthy in a generation. What happens to the Congo rainforest when a billion African's want a 4 bedroom house, with an SUV? Greata Thunberg needs to tell them to knock it off, and stop having so many babies, or can say goodbye to this beautiful rainforest. They say Africa is suppose to have 4.5 Billion people by the end of the Century. Well that's 3.3 billion more reasons, why will continue to have serious pandemics. Certain cultures need to take responsibility for their actions. I don't care who you are, no one should get praise, when they over-breed like rabbits.

Shame about the season.  I hope they finish it so you can go up.  Bradford City, of course, were going nowhere anyway.

They have said that they will finish the season no matter how long it takes.

I reckon they should just play the last few matches on the Playstation or with the managers playing Subbuteo in Hazmat suits.

Leeds were on a 5 match winning streak though so it is a bit of a shame...

Correlation is not causation. You describe a mere coincidence.

Also you are cheering on a global depression just because it results in lower carbon emissions, clearly you view lower carbon emissions as more important the human life or human flourishing, as this gets in the way of lower carbon emissions.

The west has the best environmental standards on the planet. Don't let your communist professor tell you otherwise.

It's so much better with the Trump wall.  Even though I'm out in the boonies, people still turn their stupid security lights on, and I like it dark,  it's worth it just for the way it blocks light pollution

I'm surrounded by 100 acres of meadows and wheatfields, the only lights around here are my solar powered security light getting triggered by passing deer and the stars.

He should learn a thing or too from Patrick Moore. The guy who actually started Green Peace. We need to use fossil fuels... If we stop using fossil fuels, they're won't be a tree left on the planet, because as people struggle to find enough energy to survive.

It really looks like Africa cares of the environment. these countries are corrupt sh@tholes. University professors need to tell students the true. These countries suck, and are destroying the planet.

Let me just pick up on this with Rue (from the other thread):

Those are your subjective beliefs...nothing else. You preach using fear. You were triggered by someone suffering from bipolar disorder and currently in a hyper manic phase.

Am I talking to you?   Why don't you just ignore me ......................if my post triggers this great fear in you.

Anyway, what's scary about the benefits of  dependency on God - it works for me!

If you don't believe in God - maybe you can take comfort  in your "knowledge" that death would be final!  End of suffering. Whatever works for you!

Why did I ask if I was talking to you?   Did you read what I was responding to?

I thought about this. Whether this virus is natural or man-made.... Humans have been destroying the earth due to overpopulation, and using way too much land, and resources... As a consequence our economy is going to be destroyed and millions are going to die.

The meaning behind Noah's Arc, is that your given the opportunity to save yourself, if you are willing to get prepared. I decided to leave Toronto and bug out 2 weeks ago. I won't line up in soup kitchens, I will live off the land, even if I can't make money for a long time.

Maybe humans were never meant to be slaves living in mega cities, and a correction is in order. Maybe were suppose to downsize and reemerge with nature.

Prepping is also shown in the narrative of Joseph (who saw the coming famine in the king's dream, and had prepared for it).

Genesis 41

46 Joseph was thirty years old when he entered the service of Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from Pharaoh’s presence and traveled throughout Egypt.

47 During the seven years of abundance the land produced plentifully. 48 Joseph collected all the food produced in those seven years of abundance in Egypt and stored it in the cities. In each city he put the food grown in the fields surrounding it. 49 Joseph stored up huge quantities of grain, like the sand of the sea; it was so much that he stopped keeping records because it was beyond measure.

50 Before the years of famine came, two sons were born to Joseph by Asenath daughter of Potiphera, priest of On. 51 Joseph named his firstborn Manasseh[e] and said, “It is because God has made me forget all my trouble and all my father’s household.” 52 The second son he named Ephraim[f] and said, “It is because God has made me fruitful in the land of my suffering.”

53 The seven years of abundance in Egypt came to an end, 54 and the seven years of famine began, just as Joseph had said. There was famine in all the other lands, but in the whole land of Egypt there was food. 55 When all Egypt began to feel the famine, the people cried to Pharaoh for food. Then Pharaoh told all the Egyptians, “Go to Joseph and do what he tells you.”

56 When the famine had spread over the whole country, Joseph opened all the storehouses and sold grain to the Egyptians, for the famine was severe throughout Egypt. 57 And all the world came to Egypt to buy grain from Joseph, because the famine was severe everywhere.

My response is nothing more but to state that - contrary to what some may think  - prepping is biblical!  I merely added to the NOAH'S ARK scenario about being prepared!

FURTHERMORE - clearing up the misconception that prepping is contrary to Christian doctrine can be helpful in this fight against the virus!  Reliance and dependence on God does not mean you're not going to do anything about it, period.  If your king mandates you do your civic duty to help the nation - as a Christian, you should humbly follow the law or mandate of your ruler (leaders)!  God gave us intelligence/critical thinking.   We better make use of it!

Lol, you're butting in and throwing your ignorantly irrelevant opinion that of course suggests that...... any mention of God or the Scriptures strikes fear into YOU!

Betsy You are on the forum,  so I read your preaching. The fact I reject your preachings does not mean I am not religious, an/or do not believe in God, etc., it simply means I find your need to use the virus as a way to preach your beliefs  and try convert people to your belief system manipulative and based on fear mongering.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

EXACTLY!

You are in a FORUM!

If you're going to butt in a dialogue between posters - at least, understand what they're on about, and WHY!

YOU DON'T GET TO CENSOR WHAT WE SAY JUST BECAUSE............. IT SCARES YOU!

IF YOU DON'T LIKE WHAT IS BEING DISCUSSED - MOVE ON!

You don't want me invoking religious belief because it strikes fear into you - then, IGNORE ME!

Put me on IGNORE!  That's what that function is for.

We're not going off topic... When Indians allow their livestock, to eat out of landfills, we get pandemics. The Virus didn't come from Canada... It came from a filthy country, called China.
