The prospect of mortal peril just gets me jacked up really, the live fire two way range makes life all the sweeter

I enjoy everything more, living in the now like there's no tomorrow, that's the only way to live in the end

So I'm actually having a great time in this war, that being said, I'm not going to make it easy on the enemy to take me down, so I am hunkered down in my bunker as it were

Trump would never win New York (or California) anyway !

Either New York state has been doing a lot more testing, or it has a major problem....or both.

It does seem to vary widely in effects by location, but no matter how many tests they are doing, that curve does look like the Italy curve

It's different kind of threat from thermonuclear weapons, none the less we are in a kind of Cuban Missile Crisis twilight here

The storm might blow over, maybe it won't peak like Italy, but if it does, it will be too late to get out of the cities then

It looks like population density, distancing compliance, international travel, and voting for Democrats is a bad combination.

Not in my Cold War experience...at least then we had some control over the conflagration.

That's why this pandemic dance is so destabilizing...little to no control.

I subscribe the McNamara conclusion that in the end, it was mostly blind luck

Could have gone either way, Kennedy actually had to pull with all his might on the chicken switch to check it, they were scared to leave it to the SIOP

1979-1983 was much more dangerous than 1962

Because by that time the Soviets had the Delta's and no longer had to sit in the Yankee Box and there were 25,000 warheads on alert

American and Russian strategic forces were designed to serve several gods....credibility....survivability...reliability...and safety.   It takes a lot of coordinated effort to make it happen, but it has to happen within minutes.

Pandemics don't care....they don't need a SIOP...just...time.

Tru, but as lethal as this bug can be for the Boomers and aging Gen X like me, it's not Castle Bravo

Posted

To your point tho, since it is an invader and it's inside the perimeter it doesn't need to be a Castle Bravo to have force multiplication effects

It's definitely causing more chaos than the Cuban Missile Crisis without having to be World War Three

Hence why we are mobilized beyond Cuban Missile Crisis levels to threshold World War Two level

That valid perspective has been lost in time...westerners have come to expect a minimum level of freedom and access.

"Duck and cover' means nothing to younger folk, they don't know what civil defense means, or even what polio looked like.

Not being on the Boomers with guys like you, I didn't have your levels of confidence of never actually making it to the event horizon by miscalculation

If Zbig Brzezinski is to be believed, he issued a lawful order to launch on warning in 1979, and that sounds like DEFCON 1 to me

Making it to the event horizon constituted failure of MAD.   No sane person wanted that, and we screened for that (Personnel Reliability Program), FBI background checks, and access limits.    Ziggy wanted to sell books.

Trump has far bigger things to worry about than nuclear war.

Not to mention that, no matter how much you trust SBIRS to not screw the pooch, how much do you trust the rest of these clowns not to ?

Oko Able Archer is the classic Dr. Strangelove the fate of the world rests in the hands of a wonky Soviet satellite which sees ICBM's which aren't there if the light hits its lens at the wrong angle scenario

COVID-19 is biological, but it is not warfare.   Nukes decapitate nations by design, so we shouldn't do it to ourselves over this virus.

I don't put much stock in the POTUS as savior, Party of Lincoln man as I may be, I don't believe in the imperial president coming to the rescue

For me it's all about the Declaration of Independence preamble and the Well Regulated Militia defending their homesteads in the districts

It's warfare when I have been conscripted, which I have as of now, the difference between this and martial law is semantic and we are mobilized at the national level as for war

Indeed...Americans killed over 600,000 of themselves during the Civil War.

Trump is tapping into the American spirit, not Cuomo's deepest fears.

If it wasn't for the fact he's a New Yorker he probably would have suggested nuking it like a hurricane by now. Burn the village to save the village

You're right though, this is going to come in waves as they relax then reimpose lockdown with each new wave. Wuhan is relaxing now but the lockdown there was so effective 95% of them have had no exposure to the bug. China are the lab rats right now.

You can't go by what the Communists are claiming that they are doing, they can disappear millions into black holes, we don't know what's going on behind the Bamboo Curtain

It's flaring up in Hong Kong so it can jump back into Chicom territory from there right now, the PRC is getting new cases coming in from outside now

As an infantryman my main concern as always, is weather

When me ol' pappy was dying he just wanted get back to one more summertime before he went, and he made it

That's how I treat every year, Lord don't take me till summertime

So the only thing I need to make this the loveliest war ever is sunshine and blue skies and warm weather
