KSA, like any other country, would like to have good, friendly, relations with countries that wish to have such relations with KSA.

The simpering fools in the Liberal government certainly wanted good relations. But your government can't tolerate criticism.

You could very well be right.

I think it's just another one of the many incarnations of our resident "forum friend", here to give you folks a distracting ride.

The article and the video are completely unrelated. And no, she is not paid, regardless of what kind of delusion you might have. And neither do she hide in the hotel.

Let's look at the facts:

* She gets paid to promote and market through her videos. Look at her page
* She is a suburban housewife in the U.S. and she went to Saudi for an F1 race by herself.
* All of her vlogs in Saudi is of her in the hotel room. No videos from her "experiences".

The fact is, despite what propaganda you may have heard, KSA is by far according to many visitors, one of the most interesting, safest, welcoming, and life-changing travel experience on the entire planet!

I'll grant you that countries may be seen much differently in the West than what they really are. The West usually has an unsophisticated look at the rest of the world. However, the whole thing with "life-changing", "interesting", "welcoming" are all a matter personal opinion.

Curious: As a Saudi advocate, how do you feel about Saudi's relationship with Israel? Also, how much are you getting paid to stroke Saudi and MBS?

"What do you think of Western civilization?" Gandhi was asked. "I think it would be a good idea," he said.

Time to reconsider our relationship with Saudi Arabia and look elsewhere for business.  They have no problem with putting sanctions on Canada because of the dispute, so we should have no problem in saying we will look elsewhere for trade deals.

The Saudis can go pound their own sand.

I would suggest their behaviour, as well as that of China, reflects their disdain and lack of respect for Canada's weak-kneed prime minister. They now they can give him the back of their hand and he'll just stare at them like a sad little boy. So they feel free to do so to look tough to their population and as an example to other countries not to dare mess with them in the slightest.

I am glad people are starting to understand Trudeau was never a leader. But we are going to go through this again with whoever is next. Everyone will swoon, then something will happen and everyone will say WTF.  This has all played out time and time again.

Well that’s an important point.  While I didn’t vote for the Liberals, I think people on here have a very unrealistic and unreasonable idea of what politicians bring to the table in general.  It’s one thing to try to stick to taking a principled stance both publicly and privately on human rights, equality, and other progressive beliefs, and I think the Liberal messaging has been right on human rights and consistent with past Canadian government positions.  However, we are dealing with people and relationships.  No one likes to be shown up publicly, even when it’s a fair criticism, as in the case of Saudi Arabia.

Trudeau also realized that while he might in principle want strong feminists and aboriginal activists in his cabinet, it brought unanticipated and seriously threatening challenges.  JWR proved to be dangerous because she had a point to make about judicial independence, but she also didn’t seem concerned about the fallout and whether she was taking things too far.  She was difficult, which is why a party like the Conservatives probably wouldn’t put her in cabinet.  Don’t underestimate the political reality of relationships.  So much of what we do is decided on an emotional level.  We’re not computers.  The Saudi prince is a proud, egotistical man who acted vindictively.  His actions have hurt students, workers, and have taken at least one life.  Trudeau is pretty harmless by comparison.  JT has many faults.  Who doesn’t?
