I say again...because the Americans don't have to.   The Canadians and Mexicans believe that they do....a lot.

According to you Americans don't have to do anything. But if you don't we'll just send our softwood lumber to China, and it'll get a little quiet on some of those housing projects.

BC is already sending raw logs to China...because, like the rest of Canada, it lacks the domestic capital and automation to manufacture finished goods with higher value added.   Mills have been shutting down for years, and foreigners have been buying whats left for a song (Canadian pesos).

Canadian and Mexican trade representatives know who the daddy is.

Mills keep shutting down in the US because they have to continually bid on stumpage rates so they can't plan. And every time they whine to the WTO, they lose.

Planning is so bad in Canada they need a federal welfare plan to offset the countervailing duty at the border.

Hewers of wood should know better....the Mexicans sure do.

We do, which is why around 30% of your current houses use our lumber.

Not any more...ship that crap to China...if you can.

Yep, you guys still need about 30% of "that crap" to build a house. Now with Trump's new little idea, you'll pay an average of about 20% more. We don't really care.

Ship what's left of BC's pine beetle infested "crap" to China before all the rest of it is gone.

Canada needs a pine beetle rep too...maybe Freeland.

I think that there should be a head tax on those destructive insects. They look like bed bugs too me. Ugly creatures.

It seems these days that Canada has no borders anymore. Beetles and illegal immigrants and god knows who else are all crossing at our so-called maned and protected borders. Maybe what trudeau should do is get rid of the borders altogether, and let all the bugs and people in free of charge. He appears to like open borders.

Canada's foreign minister says that Canada will now lead the world because the U.S. won't do it / pay for it anymore.

But Canada's state controlled broadcaster (CBC) still covers U.S. White House press conferences....LIVE !

Freeland was not very original....she just channeled Angela Merkel.

The funny part is that Freeland is also upstaging Canada's selfie king PM.

Well you don't have to worry about anyone upstaging Trump. His silly tweets are all over the headlines every day.

Freeland must be smoking the new legalized marijuana in Canada...wait...that is in the United States:

Mr. Speaker,

Here is a question: Is Canada an essential country, at this time in the life of our planet?

Most of us here would agree that it is. But if we assert this, we are called to explain why. And we are called to consider the specifics of what we must do as a consequence.

I can't recall an American foreign policy speech that was so dependent on past and present Canadian policies.

This speech is classic Canadian psyche...dominated by what the Americans are doing....not much irony there, eh ?
