Apparently he's trying to get foreign tourists to vote for him.

Or he's popular and it's felt that his face and voice will drive interest in Canada.

I just watched the ad twice. I think it is great. I did not hear "Liberal" once not like the last "Conservative Canadian Government". I heard "Justin Trudeau" twice. I heard "Canada" about 10 times and heard nothing but good things about my country. I thought it is a very effective and positive ad. Maybe you would feel better if Mike Duffy made the ad.

I can understand legitimate criticism when he deserves it but this is not one of them.

While selling the country is far better than some blatantly partisan EAP ad, it is still a violation of the rules in my opinion, regardless of the "social media" cop-out.

It is all about trudeau Big Guy, and the American chef.

I don't see how it violates the rules.

Of course...an American chef with American awards is more definitional in Canadian ads...just what Trudeau wants/likes.

Since actual legislation needs to be drafted and passed, the details remain to be seen. Part of what Brison introduced on May 12th was that "Ads must avoid using the name, voice or image of any minister, MP or senator.". So while I don't think the ad is partisan compared with the transgressions of the past, how are we to judge it without exacting legislation?

I don't know if it breaks any rules but it sure breaks another Liberal promise.

My greatest disappointment with American politics is the idea that people are "Republican" or "Democrat" first and Americans second. I believe that these people have battled for so long that they lose sight of their priorities.

I suspect that some folks are now prioritizing their dislike of Liberals and Trudeau over their country.

If it was Harper in that ad, would you feel the same way?

I think it was good for Canada and I am proud that my PM took the time to create it.

I would be just as pleased and proud if Harper did exactly the same ad.

Hey folks, what is your priority?

I don't think the Americans worry so much about this aspect of Canadian politics, but it's nice to always be included to help Canadians explain such things to each other. Trudeau's political ad seeks to continue to leverage the "definitional" American framework that he exploited early and often in popular U.S. media.

I can't watch anything with or about Justin or the Justin government. He's more annoying than Obama. But at least Obama is a self made man. Without his daddy and his trust fund he'd still be teaching high school. If that.

I would think this has to be regarded as poor judgment and tone-deaf, at the very least.

Yea, this popularity will surely mean we say...get more Japanese automakers to build cars in Canada, surely.

The country must be doing alright if your biggest concerns are a tourism video, nannies, and anniversaries.

It was doing about the same before the liberals had to lie about being different and making things better, i think that's more the point, but, it's a free pass for them, for at least the next 8 years, Trudeau would have to murder someone and take a selfie with the victim to change that.

Im still waiting for the science we missed, a stop to audits of environmental charities, stop fighting veterans in court, reopening veterans offices, etc, but hey, they have announced they will make it easier for the public service to strike, guess it was pay back time, and more good news, made it easier for corruption to continue on reserves, the list goes on. It's just so much nicer, and sunnier now, and that doesn't even include the sunny cursing and grabbing in the house! Bask in the warm sunny glow of liberalism, BASK in it peasants!

But Harper did try to cover up Duffy's alleged misspending, by paying it back.......what a prick.

you titled this thread, "The Liberal ad". Why so? There wasn't a single reference to the Liberal Party of Canada, yet you somehow refer to the ad as such.

'Canada. Keep Exploring' is an official site of 'Destination Canada'; it's mandate:

Destination Canada: a Crown corporation wholly owned by the Government of Canada, we report to Parliament through the Minister of Industry. Our legislated mandate is to:

- Sustain a vibrant and profitable Canadian tourism industry.

- Market Canada as a desirable tourism destination.

- Support a cooperative relationship between the private sector and the governments of Canada, the provinces and the territories with respect to Canadian tourism.

- Provide information about Canadian tourism to the private sector and to the governments of Canada, the provinces and the territories.

is there a problem... with marketing Canada as a tourist destination? From the mission statement of Destination Canada as reflects upon the, "Canada. Keep Exploring", brand:

Our mission is to harness Canada's collective voice to grow tourism export revenues.

Tourism is a key driver of Canada’s economy, creating jobs and earnings to all levels of government. It accounts for more than 627,000 jobs across the country, and in 2014, generated over $88.5 billion in tourism revenue. With over $17.2 billion of this—or nearly 20%—coming in from international travelers, tourism is Canada’s No. 1 service export.

As Canada's provinces, cities and regions largely invest in marketing to Canadians, Destination Canada’s focus is on keeping international tourism revenue streams flowing into our country. In 2014, our international marketing activities generated $667 million for Canada—that’s new money being injected directly into the Canadian economy. This spending further generated $122 million through government taxes and fees.

By leveraging Canada's tourism brand, “Canada. Keep Exploring,” we take Canada's most extraordinary tourism experiences and opportunities and promote a strong and consistent image of our country to the world in order to grow tourism revenue for Canada.

is there a problem?

 nobody but YOU cares about your shtick! A Canadian destination tourism ad, a 'celebrity Canadian chef cooking', a well known/popular Montreal restaurant, Canadian sourced food... with the Canadian Prime Minister talking up Canada as a destination travel target (with an obvious emphasis on food) to an American 'celebrity chef', herself a co-host of a destination travel/food related television show.

and... there you go again!

in your obsession with Canada... you continue to flog the "definitional thing" across many, many threads now... that "definitional" reference PM Trudeau recently made at the 'Canada 2020' conference! As stated in describing the Canada-U.S. relationship:

"For our American cousins, the relationship is consequential. For us, it has often been definitional."

in immediate follow-up Trudeau offered past and example aspects of that... definitional... relationship... "fishing rights, Auto-Pact negotiation, free trade, abstention from the Iraq War. Wow! That's what you're so intent in continuing to beat on? :lol:Why is Canada just so important to you... so... definitional to you?

Trudeau would have to murder someone and take a selfie with the victim to change that.

You're comparing meaningless issues like Trudeau taking a day to celebrate his anniversary, needing nannies for his young children, and doing tourism videos to murder. To say you need a little perspective is an understatement. I don't even care for the Liberals. They're not far enough to the left. I'm happy to criticize him over pipelines, TIPP, and his broken promise to revamp bill C-51. However, blind partisans who try to make issues out of garbage are the bane of democracy.

Hence my comment: if all Rona and Tom can complain about is petty nonsense, then the country must be doing pretty well. That's sarcasm by the way. There's plenty to hold Trudeau accountable for, but apparently neither Tom nor Rona are equipped to be actual statesmen. They're out there playing student council, while Trudeau is being a diplomat. It's sad really because this country needs a healthy opposition.

If harper did half the stuff trudeau has, he would have to resign. But even the CBC reporters are catching on to him. And let me guess a nick nanos poll. lol I wish he put in harper's mane in that poll.

Harper didn't have to resign, and he did plenty of stuff on his own.

I never thought it was possible to be annoyed by a PM more than ever but also agree with most of the things he talks about before.

MLW search advises this is now your (at least) 3rd 'one-liner' post ala, "worse than anything Harper ever did"! Notwithstanding you make no distinction between procedural processes versus Harper legislation, you don't elaborate... in any way, on anything! By the by, we're making popcorn later tonight to watch the broadcast of Harper's swan-song... no word on whether he'll mention any of his "worst ever"!
