In my opinion, both Harper and Mulcair both won this debate, and Trudeau's performance will hurt him.

Mulcair- I think Mulcair had his best performance to date, and landed two potential knock-out blows on Trudeau. First on the passage of C-51, in which he stapled Trudeau for his "cowardly stance" supporting the bill, then on the question as to how Trudeau would deal with Putin, in which said "How would you deal with Putin when you're afraid of Harper?"

Second, and perhaps below the belt, was forcing Trudeau to defend PET.......That will hurt Trudeau in the West and parts of Quebec.

Overall, though I disagree on policy, I think Mulcair did well

Harper- Got several good shots in (They clearly installed his emotion chip), first on fearing ISIS not CSIS. Second, on Trudeau over revoking citizenship and war criminals and terrorists......Trudeau's responding hissy fit received a chorus of boos and heckling from the crowd. Also, much to my surprise, Harper waxed the floor with Trudeau over the environment.....Harper did well, and looks like the elder Statesman that he is.

Trudeau- Sounded rude, vague and out of his element, after his past performances, I was really shocked.....his defence of his Dad, well heartfelt, came across as cheap and I think will hurt him in Quebec and Western Canada.

If Mulcair's performance can't halt his slide in the polls, nothing else will......by far, his best debate yet. He looked and sounded like a leader (just not one I'd vote for). I think Harper's "emotion" and attack/defence against Trudeau will help him. Trudeau sounded and acted like a child, this debate, I feel, will hurt him.

He is, but what does "did baby" mean, just to be clear?

He's vague. He communicates only 'big ideas' and not much in terms of absolute substance. It's the reason, I suspect, that the Liberals are not running away with this.

I can't wait for our next conservative majority. I'm exited to see what Harper has in store for us next. I love his cool and relaxed look at the helm. No knee jerk reactions. Nice and steady. The mark of a true leader with vision.

Probably not much of anything, as in the last four years.

Everything he has done has been slow and subtle. As to not create disturbance or panic.. To the untrained eye, it is , like if, he has done nothing. Very skilled leadership. The man dose have qualities.

I suspect JT gained poits tonight overall, and that Mulcair's mistaken attack on PET will cost him. Again, I reckon if the NDP support wanes more, they will jump to JT with the "anyone but Harper" idea in mind. Of course there are at least 2 more debates, and 3 weeks to go.

I agree with you 100%. I just don't understand it.

How did Conservatives sneak in about 200 trained seals to applaud every utterance by Harper? When Harper tried to lay claim to provincial Ontario success in reducing coal CO2 emissions, and the seals clapped, I fell off the couch.

Since when are these debate audiences a free for all?

When the people have no tyrant, their public opinion becomes one.

You don't really need a particularly well trained eye to see: a string of budget deficits, huge increases to the national debt, degradation of Canada's respect in the rest of the world, and a seemingly endless string of attempts to thwart our constitution ad charter of rights being thrown out at the supreme court level, as indicators of extremely unskilled leadership.

Yes, I too like to repeat things out of context over and over again, forgetting that everyone else here knows the context.

Perhaps Justin won't be elected PM BUT, this experience will help him next time around and depend on who, Harper or Muclair, Justin may be found next time to be a good candidate for the PMO. I do think though it will be a minority government elected and Justin will play a part in that , along with May. I don't think its bad news for NDP, Liberals and the Greens.

If Justin is in 3rtd after this, he better resign. He will never have ''it''.

Nonsense. If he comes out of this election with, say, 90 seats, he's all but tripled the Liberals' seat count.

What is this bizarre obsession that Tory partisans have with Trudeau?

Posted

Because we know what a failure he will be and what a disaster his government will be. It is the obsession of the people that want him to be PM, that is scary. To give the country to this nitwit and that is not a insult, that is a fact. We would be the laughing stock of the world with him at the helm .

I thought this was Trudeau's best showing - no substance but at least he was passionate, especially in French. That said, whenever he was forced off-script, he was very shaky - like a deer in the headlights. Full of platitudes and anti-Harper venom - but very little substance on anything......but his best showing. Mulcair clearly showed his dislike for Trudeau and he was just too deliberate in his delivery - almost like he was trying to control the Angry Tom that seemed to be simmering just below the surface. Harper had the advantage of talking substance about what his government had done and planned to do - and it all fit together quite well - the various pieces of the ISIS containment, the multi-pronged approach to the North, the reasoning behind an aggressive Ukraine/Putin approach. I'm a bit surprised but I would speculate that Conservatives will continue to edge in front. Some of the NDP vote may go to the LIberals but I have an inclination that some of the Blue Liberals will start returning to the Conservative fold. It really is an interesting clash of personalities and abilities.

Harper has already done that.

I reckon Trudeau will climb even higher in the polls after the latest debate. He pinned both his opponents ears back more than once.
