Go.Leafs Posted September 24, 2015 Report Posted September 24, 2015 I am a bit curious we do not see more women in leadership roles in Canada. Beverly McLachlin, Olivia Chow, Eve Adams, Carolyn Parrish and others are young, bright, and known to be resourceful, creative, and objective. Is there a reason there seems to be a gender barrier to the Canadian throne? Quote
Smallc Posted September 24, 2015 Report Posted September 24, 2015 I am a bit curious we do not see more women in leadership roles in Canada. Beverly McLachlin Is the Chief Justice of Canada, and First Deputy to the Governor General of Canada. Pretty big leadership role. The Canadian Head of State, QEII, is also female, I believe. Quote
Shady Posted September 24, 2015 Report Posted September 24, 2015 Those are your examples of qualified women? I almost spit out my coffee when I saw Chow and Parrish. Quote
Canada_First Posted September 24, 2015 Report Posted September 24, 2015 To me the gender isn't relevant. It's the ability to do the job that concerns me. Merit is key. I don't want a female to be PM just because she's a female. I want her to be PM cause she's the best person for the job? Quote
On Guard for Thee Posted September 24, 2015 Report Posted September 24, 2015 She is getting a little long in the tooth now, but I'd have voted for Joni Mitchel as PM. Quote
-1=e^ipi Posted September 24, 2015 Report Posted September 24, 2015 Marta Hall Findley would make a far superior PM than any of the current candidates, including May. But Justin Trudeau has nice hair and a fancy last name. Quote
Smallc Posted September 24, 2015 Report Posted September 24, 2015 But Justin Trudeau has nice hair and a fancy last name. Though I'm not sure there's anything under the hair.... Quote

On Guard for Thee Posted September 24, 2015 Report Posted September 24, 2015 Though I'm not sure there's anything under the hair.... Oh, so on the other post where you said you are thinking about voting for him, you were just spouting bs, or is this the bs? Quote
Smallc Posted September 24, 2015 Report Posted September 24, 2015 Oh, so on the other post where you said you are thinking about voting for him, you were just spouting bs, or is this the bs? I think, on balance, the Liberals have the best plan for Canada from what they've presented. I think, on balance, their leader...well, see above. I think I'd like Trudeau and Mulcair to switch places. I really considered voting NDP (and I'm still considering it) because of Mulcair. I'm considering voting Liberal in spite of Trudeau. Quote

poochy Posted September 24, 2015 Report Posted September 24, 2015 Olivia Chow and Eve Adams? You torpedoed your argument before you got it out of drydock. Im sure there are plenty of very capable women, but not those two. Quote
G Huxley Posted September 24, 2015 Report Posted September 24, 2015 Elizabeth May is a very capable female candidate running for PM, which is why Harper and Mulcair have sought to sideline her from the debates. Quote
Smallc Posted September 24, 2015 Report Posted September 24, 2015 Elizabeth May is a very capable female candidate running for PM She should run faster. Quote

Smallc Posted September 24, 2015 Report Posted September 24, 2015 Mulcair is clearly the most competent leader, but leads an unappealing party. I feel exactly the same way. Quote
Canada_First Posted September 24, 2015 Report Posted September 24, 2015 PM Harper is the most competent leader by far. The others will sell us down the river and disband the military. Quote

Go.Leafs Posted September 24, 2015 Author Report Posted September 24, 2015 Perhaps I should ask why none are PM candidates? Quote
G Huxley Posted September 24, 2015 Report Posted September 24, 2015 Elizabeth May is a PM candidate. Quote
Canada_First Posted September 24, 2015 Report Posted September 24, 2015 Elizabeth May is a PM candidate.with less than 4% of the vote. I don't think so. Quote

Is there a reason there seems to be a gender barrier to the Canadian throne? I have no doubt there are qualified women out there that would do a great job in the leadership role, but certainly not any of the one's you have listed. The Conservatives have had a female leader as have the NDP.No female Liberal leader yet.
