On Guard for Thee Posted June 8, 2015 Report Posted June 8, 2015 Television isn't an essential service. How many extra hospital beds, or doctors, or nurses, etc would 900 million dollars provide? Cable television is a ridiculous allocation of finite tax dollars in this day and age. Or you could fund even more hospital beds out of what the government currently gives away to big oil these days, and still have some good entertainment. And BTW, CBC isn't just TV. Quote

Smallc Posted June 8, 2015 Report Posted June 8, 2015 I think a lot of voters are seeing through the smoke and mirrors. Just look at the latest at the G7 from him. Ummm? He didn't pledge to destroy Canada's resource sector while keeping pressure on Putin...and? Quote

Accountability Now Posted June 8, 2015 Report Posted June 8, 2015 This is an inane viewpoint. The Liberals were able to keep their budgets in order so they must be better than the tories. Gee, the most basic of fact check on that would look back and determine that the economic times were WAY different back then than they have been for the past seven years. As an exporting nation, the most important thing to look at is the foreign exchange during those periods. The Liberals enjoyed many years of 1.4 to 1.6 exchange rates which make the Canadian exports more lucrative and more profitable when sold in USD. Its no surprise that the surpluses went away when the dollar dropped below 1.0. Also of note is that the US had 4 years of surplus in that same time frame and they've only had like 8 surplus years in the last 75 years. Clearly our surplus success depends on how well our largest trading partner is doing. The fact that anyone would tie all these external sources into a partisan perspective and then to tie it again to native funding is ridiculous. Quote
cybercoma Posted June 9, 2015 Report Posted June 9, 2015 The government will do what it believes is in the best interest of Canadians at large. The sad thing is you actually believe this. Quote
Smallc Posted June 9, 2015 Report Posted June 9, 2015 I believe that no matter the party in power. Everyone simply has a different perspective of what that is. Quote

Smallc Posted June 9, 2015 Report Posted June 9, 2015 Not where there are alternative ways to keep informed, perhaps. In remote communities, though, I think it's essential. The internet is far more essential. Money is already being spent to connect remote communities (I live in a semi remote area that got access to broadband in 2007) and the money that goes to the CBC could do a lot more. Quote

Smallc Posted June 9, 2015 Report Posted June 9, 2015 We're talking about remote northern communities where watching CBC is their connection to the rest of the country. Apparently we're talking about a fairytale that you live in. That isn't reality for anyone. Quote
Bryan Posted June 9, 2015 Report Posted June 9, 2015 We're talking about remote northern communities where watching CBC is their connection to the rest of the country. . I grew up in one of those northern communities. Very few people watched CBC. The closest affiliate was over 500 miles away, so not much of anything they broadcast "connected" us in any way. The CTV signal came in stronger anyway. Quote
PIK Posted June 9, 2015 Report Posted June 9, 2015 And how many of those communities lost the CBC when it went digital. And sun news was only allowed into 4 out of 10 homes. The liberal CRTC made sure of that. Quote Toronto, like a roach motel in the middle of a pretty living room.
