Yes, because being detained for a day is similar in any way to being held for weeks without ever being charged, split the difference if you like, but Harper didn't out do anyone, nor did he himself specifically arrest anyone or order the police to do so, of course you won't believe that.

Rounding up hundreds of people who protest and throwing them in cages ... OK with you eh?

Yay Canada. :/

Increasing security would not have prevented the two recent high profile deaths. More and better mental health interventions would have. Where is that on Harper's agenda?

While I'm in favour of increased mental health programs there is NO evidence whatsoever that either of the two individuals had any mental health issues. This is simply a reflex mantra of the far left that whenever any Muslim engages in terrorism it must have been caused by mental health issues not their religious beliefs.

Supporters of these kinds of power grabs will never be able to give you any tangible reasons. They are irrationally frightened, and have a "feeling" that they are insecure and that someone needs to protect them.

That's interesting since it really does look like its the opponents who are irrationally frightened and have a 'feeling' that the new world order is out to get them.

The Ottawa fella had all the hallmarks of a headcase long before he found Islam.

You clearly can differentiate between peaceful political protest, and violent political protest.

Attacking police cars with police men inside is not political protest.

Many of you choose to not even call it criminal, yet constantly refer to what the police may or may not have done (talking G-20, not Montebello).

Did they act as provocateurs? I don't know. I do know many crimes are solved by policemen acting undercover.

The cops behaved appallingly at the G20 and faced virtually no consequences. And you wonder why people are leery of more power for security forces without a commiserate amount of oversight and accountability?

Would that include being examined by a psychiatrist and found to be perfectly sane?

The police have plenty of oversight. The issue was the lack of political will to discipline them. If I'd been on the Toronto Police Services Board I'd have wanted the head of every senior officer involved in that fiasco, along with every cop who removed his ID tag, and every cop who arrested people, then put false names as the arresting officer on the documentation.

Yes we can differentiate... but the police didn't.

They incarcerated or detained/kettled over 1000 peaceful protesters.

The Blac Bloc clearly won a huge victory, exposing the violence of the state against the PEOPLE WHO PAY THEIR SALARIES!!

And when one thinks of radical Islamist you immediately think "homeless crack addicts".

You know where the islamists who flew airplanes into the World Trade Center spent time at strip clubs, in Vegas and drinking, right?

Whan I was in the Middle East I knew some pretty devout Muslims who would drink. It's not an all or nothing thing, the same with any religion.

The only thing they insisted on was that none of their colleagues found out. Their colleagues were doing the same thing, of course.

Kind of a clue, eh?

It's not about Islam.

.

Of course it's about Islam. Islam is all about grinding women into the dirt, while men walk around freely without rules.

A woman who looks crossways at a man without a chaperone present can be killed. A man who has sex with strippers is no big deal.

Women must cover themselves head to toe, but men can wear comfortable t-shirts and shorts. After all, the women won't get excited at the sight of them once they've had their clitorises removed, right?

Yes, and the Black Bloc epitamized restraint and, you guessed it, faced no consequences. I'd love to see all you lefties who slag everything about what happened at the G20 stand up to that illegal bunch of hooligans who burned cars and trashed ppl's livelihoods. I have never once heard any discord with the lawlessness that prevailed that day.

Im guessing you cannot read or you have a comprehension problem.

No ONE, here there or anywhere supported what the Black Bloc did. Hell , the cops themselves stood around with their thumbs up there ass , then got embarassed.

And how did they solve the embarassment? They rounded up the peaceful , non violent, in the secure protest zone and kettled them. Cuz ya know...embarassed little twerps could beat up on the innocent.

And thats the problem all of us have.

Except , you know, for the ones who cant read and or conflate the issues in delerium.

Still the same ill informed hooligan apologist I see. Still on with the comprehension bullshit because you have nothing more intelligent to add...as usual.

This is interesting: government spends millions upon millions on G20 security. Town is full of cops. But for some reason it's up to the peaceful protesters to rein in the few dozen (if that) lawbreakers? Sorry, did I say interesting? I meant stupid.

I'd have loved to see the police stand up to those guys too. Unfortunately, they ran away and left them alone to do whatever they wanted.

You would have to be perfectly insane to reckon this guy as perfectly sane.

Because religion hasn't driven people to commit extreme acts of violence before, right?

Set us all straight and give us your interpretation of what happened.

Sure it has. Thats why Im an athiest. This guy was a long term drug addict with serious mental problems. He tried to get himself arrested to get some help. His lid was going to blow off with or without any internet site he may have visited.

conservative-party-fights-fear-with-fear-with-bill-c-51-

Of course, the unique power of terrorism lies not in its body count, in causing people to live in fear.

And it appears the Conservative government is fighting the spread of fear by actively spreading fear.

They do so to trumpet a bill that curtails freedom because our enemies hate freedom.

Rather well said, I think.

the guy was a terrorist first. Sure its possible for him to be other things too but he was a terrorist first. He knew right from wrong. He would be criminally responsible for his actions. Very clear cut.
