I'm wondering how this will all play out. The Liberals have treated the teachers decently over the years, after the disaster of the Harris years. Teachers do not want to o back to those days where Harris made teachers' lives miserable. Public education is one of the most important public services. Money needs to be spent to allow the system to work efficiently. In y opinion, the teachers aren't asking for much.

Full day Kindergarten is awesome. but classes need to be smaller. More teachers need to be hired.

Full day kindergarten is very expensive public daycare for parents who no longer want to raise their own children.

Full day Kindergarten gives kids a positive head start. I have a hard time believing that anyone could be against full day K, being taught by professionals instead of sitting at home watching TV. But nothing on this forum surprises me anymore.

There's actually a great deal of learning that goes in in kindergarten. It's not a waste of time.

Smallc, you are right. You live in Manitoba where the government understands the importance of public education. You are lucky.

To follow that logic, to give those children a real "head start" then let the state take control when they are 2 years old and take the parent right out of the equation.

BTW If every child is given a "head start" then they are all starting at the same time and there is no head start.

What are they getting an advantage towards?

I never said it was a waste of time. I'm not against kindergarten. I said full-day kindergarten is a way to sneak in public daycare, or "early childhood education". Parents no longer want to raise their own children. A lot of 4 and 5 year olds aren't ready to be without their parents all day at that age, but mommy & daddy value their 2 incomes and short-term career prospects over raising their own damned kids. Unless you're a single-parent or a legit struggling family, full-day ECE and full-day kindergarten is a joke, used by parents wanting strangers to raise their kids.

And the kicker is that 2 parents in the workforce has caused deflation in wages and inflation in prices over the past few decades to the point where families living off 1 income in the 60's or 70's have a tougher time doing it now, even if ignoring "lifestyle changes".

That has nothing to do with why it was brought in. Parents wanted to work, McGuinty wanted the votes and tax revenue.

The issue is Ontario is broke. The Liberals are getting ready for a huge tax hike and know there will be a huge public backlash.

If you think that hike will go to education than you are dreaming. Wynne has a transportation plan that she has to pay for that won't work.

The Pan Am games are over budget.

The public sector unions now that the cuts are going to be huge for them and that fight is starting as well.

Liberals won with 38% of the vote and that gave them a majority nobody wanted them to have.

They forced full day kindergarden before the schools were ready.

Now the only thing they want to talk aout in education is the new sex ed program.

I think it is just a smoke show so the tax hike will get buried.

We are in deep trouble in Ontario and what people don't want to think about is that is is going to take a Mike Harris on steriods to fix it.

Sounds like someone speaking from a pedestal casting judgement on two parent working families.

To suggest that parents no longer want to raise their own children is ludicrous. Do you have any idea how much it costs to purchase a home on the west coast? It take 2 incomes to support a family, purchase a home and provide all those childhood perks (lessons etc).

You are right that full time kindergarten is a means to provide free daycare to parents. What is the alternative?

Do you have a cite that shows 2 parents in a workforce causes deflation in wages and inflation in prices?

Striving for excellence in Ontario.

Placing government propaganda is not helping your argument.

They have the same crap for the Green Energy program that has chased many jobs out of the province and jacked up the hydro rates to the highest in North America.

Is full day kindergarden a worth while cause?

Yes I really believe so. It was likely the ONLY thing Mcquinty got right. He only did it for votes because he is an legecy whore.

My issue with him is he never really got the hang of being able to get anything done with any form of compatance except get elected on his lies.

It is good for the chiildren and it does help the parents so they can work and pay for the stupid amount of taxes and hydro rates the Liberals are raping this province with.

I keep hearing about how bad shape Ontario is. I don't see it. I see things looking up. Spending more on public education will benefit everyone. Provincial debt is way overrated. Ontario will be just fine.

I'd like to ask you how you feel about the $10 billion in interest we pay every year on our debt.

No bi deal. We still receive quality services. Too many people make a big deal out of debt.

I was orginally shocked at this but than I remembered your complete lack of respect for math or logic.

In ten years when everything get gutted to pay for the foolishness of the last ten years I am sure the teachers will be screaming yet again as they do with every government in power

That's over a year old. A maybe you need to realize that public school is more than numeracy and literacy. If you read this, pay attention to what the vice president of the manitoba teachers' society says. He makes the most sense.

Again, you are being a fear monger. I believe things will be fine. The Ontario government will stimulate the economy will keeping necessary services.

How so?

You say you think they will stiumate the economy.

If half the jobs were created that was promised I would agree with you.

The Green Energy act did not creat 50000 jobs and has been a job killer with the increase of hydro rates

The HST was placed upon the people at a terriable time.

Next is a carbon ta that will place higher prices on all .

In short this province is screwed.

In short, you are fear mongering. Ontario will be fine. Ontarians know it too as they gave Wynne a huge majority. If the fine people of Ontario believed as you do, we would have a Hudak government. But the Ontario teachers unions are already getting ready to fight.

So who's side are you on?

The Ontario government or the teachers unions?

Can't be on both after all the teachers unions never campigned for Wynne.

Nobody expected Wynne to get a majority and I would wager that if there was a poll today many would have voted to keep a minority with the NDP holding the power.

I also would have preferred this and have a new PC leader elected while The NDP kept The Liberals under control.

I have no fight with the teachers or funding the education system. But to say the Ontario Liberlals have everything under control is just drinking the kool-aid

I'm expressing my opinion, and yes casting judgements (but not on all 2 parent working families, only those that can afford not to be for certain periods of time during the most important years in a child's life developmentally). I'm open to debate for those that think they're inaccurate. People can do whatever they want, I just don't have to agree.

To suggest that parents no longer want to raise their own children is ludicrous.

Do you have any idea how much it costs to purchase a home on the west coast? It take 2 incomes to support a family, purchase a home and provide all those childhood perks (lessons etc).

Housing costs are a major economic issues, I can definitely sympathize with that for some cities, but do you think cheaper housing costs in other Canadian cities (Ottawa, Montreal, Edmonton) means parents are staying home to raise their children? Do you think housing costs have been inflated at all by dual income households? Of course they have.
